Cimerora fixes...

Okay Cimerora has been out a year and a half now.. and there are still a couple of annoying issues with it. These are not new issues.

First, stepping sounds are all wrong on a lot of the surfaces. Stone sounds on wood, and wood sounds on stone.. everywhere. This may not be like a game breaker, but it's a glaring, noticeable and annoying issue, and just screams of a lack of polish. That is something that should have been fixed in beta.

Second, an even bigger issue, all that lag in the third mission of ITF. That is totally preventable, but the Romans have a power that works in such a way, that the server has to make SO many calculations, it just makes it unplayable. Remove that power from the Romans on that mission and replace it with a straight defense buff. I would like to play that mission the way it seems to have been intended. You said a while back you would look into it, and that went nowhere, so please, just get rid of that powerr for the romans in that mission.

Thanks.

While we're at it, fix the Longbow Ballista in Sister Airlia's first arc so that he doesn't spawn at a minimum of level 40 anymore. If you do that arc as soon as you can, facing an EB five levels above you is the least you want to do, especially when you have a boss-sized ally you have to lead out but she refuses to actually move past him and then gets knocked out and you LOSE THE BLOODY MISSION.

Quite aggravating when faulty game code screws you over like that.

On that note, have Daedalus' first arc be accessible when you're actually level 35. You know, the level when he POPS UP TO TELL YOU YOU UNLOCKED HIM. It might be WAI, but when I am told a contact is unlocked by reaching level 35, it strikes me as odd he won't give me missions until level 40.

And there's the bad habit locals have of speaking aloud "I saw Marty Rallner battle Crey goons in my neighborhood!" and the like. Then there's the whole Greek/Roman confusion, but that's a thoroughly beaten dead horse anyway.

To which power do you speak of? Shout of Command, or the healing aura?

I think they are talking about their version of phalanx fighting.

Ugh. I think I've only had him and Lt whoever (and the associated groups) not show up together... perhaps once. That's even more annoying.

Makes for a nasty fight, especially if I'm solo.

I'm forgetting her name, the midnighter contact... Mcknight, is like that as well, but it's only one level. If you get him via Croatoa, Cadao Kesterel can do that as well (finish croa around 32, usually, and he's a 35 contact.)

I'm wondering if that 3rd mission has to do with more than those calculations.

I know at times I've been able to run through the 3rd mission with no lag at all. Other times LAG! And this is going through just taking things out. Not pulling to the bridge (or however people do it) to avoid the lag.

From what I understand, it works like this...

You have 50-100 Romans on screen. They are all moving around, and running Phalanx Fighting. This power effects every Roman around that Roman, within a certain radius. And they are all running it, meaning the server has to calculate 50-100 aura buffs, and which NPCs they are effecting.. meaning the server has to constantly recalculate and update who is buffing who.. times 50 or 100.

I might be wrong, but that is my understanding.

It would be the best if Phalanx Fighting doesn't need to be replaced by something else.

There are tricks (coding or algorithms) that the server doesn't need to calculate all the interaction within the 100 Romans. It would be nice if the programmer can spend some time optimizing that part of the code. It will also benefit other part of the game, for example the server lag in raid.

Another cheap way is to change the timing of the Phalanx Fighting. Instead of pulsing every second a buff that lasts ~ 1 sec, the activation period and the buff can be made longer.
