So I quit way back in 05 and came back this weekend t give my Fire/Fire tank a go and well... I remeber why I quit, the damn Burn nerf!!!

Good news is I have 2 respecs (this was a typical Burn build for the time)

I need a little help here, what should I be shooting for in a build. Please remember I've been gone 4 years so be gentle

Thanks in advance.

Oh, if I don't reply after Monday it cold be because I have no forum access

In th e short term, aim to drop powers you can cover with reasonably obtainable IO enhancements. Notably, drop Acrobatics, as you can get Knockback protection IO's relatively easily.

Burn is also skippable. it's good, but situational, and if you don't expect to run into the situation a whole lot, it won't do you much good. Temperature Protection may do you well, with its slow resistance - slow is your bane, given how nice Healing Flames is.

In the medium term, focus on improving your strength with damage and recharge IO set bonuses and shoring up your weakness with defense IO set bonuses. While you probably won't get to the 45% defense softcap, you can build up a solid base to back up your Fiery Aura resistances, allowing a single small purple to turn you into an unstoppable human crematorium. This will take more than one week-end, though. Also of note, pool powers that grant defense - Combat Jumping, Weave, and Stealth - are very excellent bases both to hold good sets for the bonuses and as a small base of defense to build your defense set bonuses. They also hold the expensive but awesome Luck of the Gambler global recharge bonus IO.

It's gonna take a lot of cash to put together a good Fire/Fire Tanker build, though. But that's why you keep coming back, there's always more missions to run, more recipes and salvage to drop, and more stuff to sell at Wentworth's for cash to buy what you need.

Here's my build for you (using Mid's hero designer, which you can get here: http://www.cohplanner.com/ ). I went for good all around defense to Melee, AOE, Ranged, and Psychic. Also, as much +HP and +Recharge I could get, as it helps to have both of those as well. Some people go for just Smashing/Lethal defense, and that can work pretty well too.

I had about 25 million banked on my Fire/Fire when I came back to CoH myself, and managed to make most of this build with that, though it did take awhile for the rest. As you work towards your goal, picking up CJ, Tough, and Weave should make you pretty resilient.

Also, I don't use Burn anymore... it's just too nitpicky to leverage it: I just rely on my other AOEs. Anyway, here's the build. I can't get Mid's to look nice in the forums anymore: anyone know what the issue is? This is the lastest build of Mid's, too.

For Fire/Fire, I would definitely concentrate on your secondary. There have been some positive developments after the Burn nerf, mostly involving the invention system. One improvement has been to Healing Flames, which had its recharge reduced.

The other improvement involves the invention system. By various single IOs --- Steadfast Protection for resistance, which would be easiest for you to slot; also Karma (defense) and Blessing of the Zephyr (travel); and also various set bonuses, including Kinetic Crash (knockback) -- you can have knockback protection without the need to run Acrobatics, which frankly is a toggle you don't need. The single IOs can be costly on the markets, but can also be bought with the reward merits you get from story arcs and task forces.

The top three powers of your primary are very optional, as is Temperature Protection. If you choose to keep Burn, I'd recommend that you first get some knockback protection in set bonuses or IOs, then switch to Flight for Air Superiority, which knocks down a single target. Using Burn requires some control to prevent mobs from fleeing. Or you could omit Burn altogether, or use it like Caltrops as a defensive power.

Unfortunately, while defense has improved mechanically and is easier to supplement with the invention system, resistance now lags behind it. If you want to make an aggressive tanker, I'd consider Shields before Fire now.

great info guys, thanks!

I went out and ran a few missions just to see and he did ok. It tookme a while to take down a Pactorian boss (the wolf mission). Burn will be gone I think, I loved that so much too.

I'm thinking I may play a little more, it was more fun than I thought it would be and there seems to be a whole lot more than there used to be.

I had a question about SO's (that is the standard Single Origin that you buy from vendors right?) you can still buy them in stores (I saw lower level ones and remembered you buy the mid and higher in different zones, just don't remember where ).

The invention system looks cool, gives a reason to farm - are there any lists that show what mobs drop specific recipes and/or parts?

oh and where was the cape store lol I have 48 costume changes and my "wrestling" attire needs an upgrade

Thanks again guys, cya on the streets!

Ghost Falcon is the high-level SO store in Peregrine Island. He's located near the ferry, and is marked on your zone map with a $ symbol.

Paragon Wiki is your friend!

Invention Salvage
Recipe Drop Pools

Salvage will drop according to mob level range and faction. Recipes drop by mob level range and drop pool.

Icon tailors are in Steel Canyon (NW corner), Independence Port (just east of the Kings Row gate), and in Founders Falls (SE part of zone). If you have access to the Pocket D VIP lounge, there's a tailor up the ramp over the bar.

Good luck with all the burninating!

Also, if you've never run the cape mission, you need to do that to unlock regular capes. Contact the City Representative in the Atlas Park city hall to begin that.

You can also hit the stores in Cimerora (Julia Pria) or in the Rikti War Zone entrance area by Serpent Drummer (Vanguard Quartermaster) for lvl 35-50 SO's.

it's all coming back

played around last night and decided I am for sure going to subscribe again.

spent a little while "playing" the market and managed to make half the mola to equip my defender with IO's ehhhh it was an experiment to see what I could learn about the market and invention system.

BTW I hadn't run the mission in PI (for access to 35-50 SO's) on my Defender and i know I bought lvl 40 SO's somewhere else. I could have sworn there was another spot.

One more question; when last I played you had to do a reactor mission to get respecs and I don't remeber what happened to your SO's... do you loose them all if/when you respec and why would you respec if you can have dual builds? (something else I learned yesterday )

Thanks again guys, I'll be flaming again REAL soon!

I know there are spots for high level SO enhancements that don't require the mission. Firebase Zulu and Rikti War Zone? Haven't played hero side at that level for a very long time.

When you respec, you get to redistribute all your enhancements. You can also remove up to 10 of then (a full enhancement tray worth), and all enhancements you don't slot or put in your tray get sold automatically, and for more than you'd get selling them normally, IIRC.

Respec is for fixing your build if a patch changes something critical, or just to try something new and different. Dual builds just let you be ready for two very different situations at a moment's notice, like having one farming build and another teaming build, since some powers that are awesome in one situation are worthless in the other.

On the subject of respecs, the terra volta trial still gives you a respec, up to 3 times total I believe. You can also get a respec invention recipe. Plus, when a new issue is released, everybody usually (always?) gets a free respec.

You can buy lvl 30-40 SO's from contacts in both Brickstown and Founders Falls. Which zone depends on your origin. If I recall the Magic and Science stores are in Bricks and the others are in Founders.

Those stores will require you to run a mission for the contact before you can use them. In the Rikti War Zone, there is a store that sells and buys enhancements from 35 through 50 that is open to all, without prerequisite. Entrances to the War Zone are in the Vanguard compounds in Atlas Park, Founders Falls, and Peregrine Island.

There are similar stores in the Midnighter Club and Cimerora. To get access to these, you must first run a story arc that awards several badges, that you get from Montague Castellanetta (sp?) in the University in Steel Canyon. Doing his story opens the club, Cimerora, and the Imperious Task Force for your character, so this is even more worthwhile than running the origin store missions.

Hm... forgot there was a store in the Midnighter Club. The other stores were mentioned earlier in the thread, although the details to accessing them weren't mentioned. My bad for not including that info.
