Newbie!

Good morning, everybody! You've got a new ex-WoW convert on your hands. Got bored with WoW, started playing CoV, and now I'm hooked... with the exception of one thing...

WHERE IS EVERYONE?? Kinda feelin' lonely doing my thing, but I'm not seeing anyone really, and I'm not hearing anything on any chat channels I can find... am I missing something, or is this what non-WoW games (ie, without 14mil people, or whatever its up to now) are like? Not that I miss the constant trade channel fights and the abuse of your fellow players, but it WOULD be nice to find some people to party with every now and again....

Anyway... if you're ever looking for a fun, laid back villain to play with, my global is @namhaid, and my main toons are Namy and Namhaidhan.

I personally only play heroes at the moment, and I think the "Blue side" is much busier than the "Red side".

Glad to see you on the boards already. There is a wealth of information on here and many great posters are happy to help.

When playing a hero I found some success when I opened my team window and changed my "not looking for team" to "Looking for any team", and then below that I put some text 'looking for any team etc etc'. I found that when soloing I would get invites periodically.

It is also surprisingly easy to form a team. In the team search window you could narrow the search for particular levels, so you can find others close in level to you. If they are 'grey' they are on a team, and when you search you may find people that also have the option "Looking for any team" set. They should be your first choice for invites. I would send out some tells (sending a tell before an invite is polite, and will probably get you more members than blind invites) "/t So-and-So, Hi, I have a x lvl mission in x location, intersted?". Send out a few, if you get to around 5 or so, I usually include, "we have 3 spots open on a x lvl team in x location, interested?" I have found that people will be more willing to join up in a team that is almost full than just starting.

I believe there is a listing of the Supergroups and Villiangroups on Liberty. I am sure they are always willing to bring a new member into their folds. Lots of great people on Liberty I will say again. I left the first server I started on to come to Liberty because of many friendly people I met.

Welcome to the game and the boards. I haven't played villains on Liberty for a while but I know the overall villain population is much smaller than the hero side.

The above suggestions are great but also don't forget to announce you are looking for a team in the zone. Just type "/y level XX [class type] lft".

But the best way to team is to form one yourself and be polite, ask first before inviting.

Thanks everyone for such a friendly greeting! (See, this is already part of why I like this game better than WoW, lol). Sounds like the looking for team thing is pretty similar to WoW - just didn't know where to look (thanks!).

I'm looking to bring my WoW guildies over, as we had a pretty tight group and many of us are getting bored/tired of it and only sticking around because of each other, so I'm probably going to be looking at starting a new SG - is it hard to find members?

Also, how do you get onto a new chat channel?

Hey welcome. Im still new also ( 3 weeks in) I came from Star Wars Galaxies. I was looking for a new game to play and found this fine jem. But I also find it hard to find some ppl to get in trouble with but then when I get a tell for some reason I cant reply?! Why I can't I have not figured it out yet lol. But if you see me on hit me up Im down to beat up some bums for there coffee cups or rob some banks. Heres my handle @wraithius. Hope to see you around.

First off, welcome to the game!

Now, to repeat my pretty much canned response for this type of topic:

There are plenty of players to team with on all the servers, you just need to use the tools that are available to you.

*Use the team search tool, and set your flag to Looking For Any.
*Find and join an active SG with other players that have compatible playstyles. You can look for SG's in your server section here on the forum.
*Join your server's global channels. Again, they are listed in your server section here on the forum.
*When you find other players you like playing with, add them to global friends.
*Form your own teams.

Shouting 'LFT' in Broadcast is by far the poorest way to find a team in this game.

I play exclusively on Protector, one of the lower population servers, and there is never a shortage of activity. There is always something going on.

I can't add anything more than what has already been said except to say Welcome to City of Heroes.

Ink420 - I'd definitely be interested in grouping with you for something! Hit me up if you see me on, too! @namhaid

Everyone else - I've figured out the command to write a tell, but how do these global chat handles work? and how do I add someone to my friends list without seeing them? (you know, to click their name for the menu and such...)

Already been making use of the looking for team system, and found a group, thank you so much for the help!

The LB channel is a private channel meaning you need an invitation to join it. You can get an invitation by sending a tell to one of the moderators (I'll have to go look up their globals). For non-private channels you use the command

/chanjoin NameOfChannel

For example two channels you could join are

/chanjoin SisterhoodFriends
/chanjoin Ghost Legion

Of if you see me online (@enderbean) I can get you invited to the channels. Welcome to CoH/V!

One note about starting your own Supergroup, you need a character at level 10. Not very difficult.

But you would most likely be better off finding an established SG because they will already have all the SG bling such as teleporters to the different zones, etc. It isn't as important on villain side to have an SG but on hero side it can be real tedious running from zone to zone.

And again, welcome to the game. Liberty is a very friendly server with players who are willing to teach new players, unlike some of the larger servers.

Ink, are you using a free trial account currently? If so, trial accounts are prevented from sending tells to help control spambot activity.

Peterbilt - already rockin' the one-man SG, and I believe I've found a more established SG to coalition with for the use of their transporters... I think the real problem is going to be recruiting, but hey... we'll see. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out and I'll just be looking for a nice, solid SG to sell my toon's souls away to. I'm DEFINITELY noticing the friendly bit, though... it's blowing my mind that i have yet to meet a dick on this server... I mean... isn't this the INTERNET that I'm playing on??

2nd lol @ where is everyone, yea I would expect it to be pretty ghostly coming off Wow...Just grab an invite from someone you'll be fine...Villains has always been less team friendly than Heroes in my opinion but the people that play it often may tell ya different...build up a good friends list and you're all set...good luck, globals in the sig if you see me on, hit me up!

Again, thank you thank you, everyone! Possible - yeah, while it might be a little... empty... I'm also kinda feeling this wonderful experience of being kinda in a small town... everyone seems to know each other, so there's less "anonymous" bitchiness...
