Would a Single Whip Animation be Possible?

Yeah, you heard me. A lot of people are very against the idea of using whips, considering the size and scaling issues of such concepts provides exceptional difficulties whne trying to use it on larger foes.

But what about a single animation? A simple winding back and lunging forward? Would this be possible? And if so... Could we port it over to Electric Melee?

Now, I know what you're thinking, there's nothing wrong with Electric Melee! This is true, this is very true, but I was kinda sad, since it's one of the few elemental sets without an elemental weapon attached to it (other than Dark.)

My request is to replace Havok Punch with Lightning Lash; a simple, fast whip animation that has all the same effects, but uses the stylish effect of said whip. No drawing/redrawing, and the biggest change would be the name and POSSIBLY changing the range from melee to 'Close'. No holds other than what Havok Punch already has, no damage/recharge/endurance changes.

Why? Well, because it would be pretty cool, and we wouldn't have to see Air Superiority with yet another elemental power attached to it, calling it something else. I think that would be pretty dern awesome.

Next time on Useless Suggestions: Ice Sword becomes Ice Staff! D:

Whips have been hinted at as being 'related to' Demon Summoning by BABs.

Wait to see what GR brings.

BAB mentioned a while back that hew as working on the animation for a "Hellfire Whip" - which is most likely for the new Demon Summoning MM set in GR - so there will be some kind of whip animation added to the game, and if they roll out Power Customization to incldue alternative animations as well as colors for all sets, then you might be able to use the Hellfire Whip one.

I'd be all for adding a whip theme under electric melee's customization options, would be great for all the elemental sets to have more veriety of attack, but to completely replace Havoc Punch is a no go.

Any reason why?

I'm not adamant about the total conversion, but I think it would be nice to have a power replace. Yeah, I could see it not working too well with concepts, true, but any other reason?

Replace a power from a powerset that's been there for years just because it "might" be a fun idea. Are you kidding?

I have no incredible love for Havoc Punch and I actually do like the idea of the whip power you suggested. But I would never, ever suggest that a power ever be completely REPLACED by another power. Can you imagine how many people would likely scream bloody murder over that? When the Devs tried that for the power pools a few Issues ago it lasted about a week in beta before they wisely backed off that idea.

Now if there was a way to add a whip power to that powerset as an ALTERNATIVE to Havoc Punch then that'd be cool. Basically the word "replace" is a very loaded one as far as powersets go and you should probably be more careful in how you phrased what you meant. I realize you probably just meant something like an "animation replacement" for that Havoc Punch but as pointed out by Shadow State it might not have been totally obvious what you meant.

I know, it was a complete cluster-eff when they made Conserve Power into Energize.

But I'm being harsh right now. Sure, the OPTION to change it to a whip would be nice, but I'd also suggest modifying melee range to close-ranged (yes, technically making it a ranged-damage power.) Not to mention a sweet, new icon for a whip attack.

Again, just my personal preference.

Primarily because with power customization allowing alternate animations, there's simply no reason to take away the current animation from those who like it. Secondly, I don't think "wouldn't it be cool" is sufficent reason to break the "Cabin Rule." And finalely, I think having only a single attack use the whip is kind of silly, a character should have some consistancy in how (s)he attacks.

I've gotta agree that simply replacing Havoc punch with Electric whip would be a very, very bad idea if the only justification is "it'd be cool". Not only would it set a bad precedent, but it essentially means overruling X many people's existing concepts in favour of your one. Personally, I rather like that Electric doesn't have any specific weapon association, and as Shadow State said, having only one whip attack is kind of silly, if there's no internal support for it.

As a weapon customization option, sure, but as a wholesale replacement, pass.

Not even remotely the same thing. Conserve Power was changed to Energize with at least two justifications:
1) /Electric Armor was underperforming relative to the Devs' metric. The Energize change was made to bring the set closer to par, not just because it would look cool.
2) The underlying effect of Conserve Power, the endurance discount, is maintained in Energize. The Devs simply added more effects to the power. Which is to say, they didn't remove the endurance discount power from the set, they buffed it and gave it a new name.

Now, if there were some specific issue, such as game balance, that would argue for a change to an electric whip, then perhaps it would be more acceptable. As it stands, though, "Just Because" doesn't cut it.

BAB said that he was trying out whip animations and thinking of using them for the upgrade powers in Demon Summoning - that's all. You forums people need to stop putting words in his mouth, 'cause he seems to have to do a lot of damage control.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

Related, likely, insomuch as Circle of Thorns Hordelings already have a whip attack with their tongues. I'm not sure how far that technology can stretch, though. Hordelings are too rare and only appear CoV-side (for some stupid reason), so I haven't had much experience with them.
