I'm 41. All day I feel old. (I'm a high school teacher.) I come home and play CoH and I don't, because most of the people I play with are my age or older.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

There are usually two sides to every argument but no end.

Everything placed above this line is always IMHO, YMMV and quite certainly not to be taken too seriously....

You have to be careful though, or those in jokes will backfire on you.

For example, years ago, I used to think it was funny to mention overhearing some kids talking,
and one said "Hey! Did you know know Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?"

That became much less funny a few years later when I told that, and one of the people there asked "Who is Wings?".

.
I've had that happen in game also. In your Sig line about Wings - I asked my youngest son about Wings and his answer was "You mean Winghouse ?"

Slightly OT but - with so many age 40+ players, are there any Super Groups especially for us oldsters? If there are, who do I see for an invite?

I just turned 50 this past weekend. I see that we have a 57-year-old in the game. Kudos you to sir.

And kudos to you. I'm happy that I see an older crowd still enjoying the fun of computer gaming.

And yes, it's disconcerting when you bring up something that you take for granted, and everyone else has never heard of it. I just read story here or in another forum, and the poster worked in a music store and the teenagers looking at a picture of Marilyn Monroe thought it was Madonna. After he finished telling them who it was, they walked away whispering "It's so sad, he works in a music store and doesn't even recognize Madonna."

Turned 40 here myself this year.

Whilst not specifically for 'oldsters' one of the SGs I'm in and spend a lot of time with is Fusion Force on Triumph. We do have a general aged 18+ rule, the majority of folks in the group are mature adults many with kids, and a great attidtude towards family first when needed.

Check out the website: www.fusionforce.us

I hope that I'm half that cool in another 25 years.

I've been the baby on the team at 38 years of age. My husband is 42. I remember one of our friends celebrating 63.

Same here. And I actually caught myself LEGITIMATELY using "I'm old enough to be your father." to to someone in their late teens and had to go wash my mouth out with hydrochloric acid.

Actually Indy. It's a function of (years*mileage). So while my actual age is still statistically low for our community here, due to the function, I'm physically equivalent to someone in their 60's and hating to think about what I'll feel like if I make it to 60 legitimately.

I think the youngest player (that I know of) that I've played with was like ten? She was playing with a parent in e PuG I was in in the Hollows, most likely on another parent's account because she was running a squiddie. She was pretty cute; her Keldian(sp?) kept saying "meep!" and I'd go "Hm, must be squid-talk."
One of the nicest teammates we've ever picked up was around 12 playing on his dad's account. He was so happy when he found out it was a Mom, dad and teenager playing.

I'm still kicking myself for not adding him as a global friend.

I hit 48 in November. The last time this came up there didn't seem to be so many people fessing up. Glad to be in such great company.

My just turned 4 year old (quite the gap, eh?) loves to play. He really just runs around in the Hollows on a level 12 character tabbing from one victim to the next while his auto attack fires off. And my oldest, 17, has been playing for 4 years.

If you remember his local handle, just do:

Code:
/get_global_name LOCALNAME
You can then gfriend if if he's online.

I turned 46 this August.

I think this is all the curious result of my generation growing up with Pong and Space Invaders in pizza parlors, D&D books on the shelves (Which I still play by the way...) and being automatically designated, with no prior evidence, by our parents as being the "computer whizzes" of the family.

So, after nearly 40 years of playing software games (I remember playing a clone of Spacewar! on a mainframe at the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley in 1972. I was 8.), here we are.

I wonder what the current crop of 8 year olds are going to do to civilization? Biotech games I guess. Playing Pong with chromatophores on your skin?! The mind reels!

The weird thing is, if I take good care of myself, I'll live to see that. Medicine is getting better and cheaper all the time.

So let your freak flags fly all you glorious crotchety punks, dweebs and nerds! And always remember to be properly humbled when the new kids show you up!

I don't know if they are still active (I moved over to the EU from the US) but when CoH started the Paragons of Justice had a 25+ policy. With most players being rather older. You could maybe try checking them through the Justice server page, if you don't find anything else.
