My friends thinking of playing. She's got a geforce 9400 gt. Is this card capable of running CoH?

Should be fine, but some quality preferences may have to be lowered to offer better performance... depending on what the rest of her rig has.

This, my wife runs on a 7600 and it works. Not the greatest but it plays.

Badging in a PvP zone?

If you are treasure hunting on a battlefield wearing an enemy uniform, there is a high probability that you will be attacked.

This is an enjoy-the-ride game. "50" is only a number, not the goal of the game. - Noxilicious

Some would argue that a 7600 is better for CoH than a 9400 anyway. The fist digit is only the series number. While the series itself may have it's own internal improvements, it's the second number that tells you more about how well it deals with graphics. Most people recommend at least a 6 for better performance, which your wife has. But the OP's friend has a 4. While it doesn't meet most people's recommended guidelines for performance, it can certainly run the game very well at lower detail... but the system's overall performance will also depend on what the other system specifications are as well.

The OP could always install CoH on her computer (depending on location) and use his account to see how it plays, but... I say, send her a refer-a-friend code and get some free time added to your account if it works out. If not, at least she tried and it didn't cost her anything.

I run at max settings on an 8800 gt and Core2 Duo 3.0gHz, and have no real framerate issues. Above anything else, though, make sure you've got at least 2 gigs of RAM; CoH tends to be a little on the heavy on RAM consumption.

Depends on their target resolution.

Driving a 1920x1200 display at 60Hz, no.

1440x900 at 30 Hz without some of the fancy shaders effects, maybe. It'll may require a bit of tuning of the individual settings to find the balance between pretty and performance.

The 9400GT has one of the worst performance/$ ratio out there (fix price for card manufacturing and packaging can only go so low). The 9500GT has twice the power for only a few dollars more, the GDDR3 memory version has twice the video memory bandwidth. I'm seeing a $15-20 price difference at NewEgg.

Well, I'm assuming that's the card she already has, not one she is thinking of buying for CoH... so for her, it's not just a $15-20 price difference between the cards, but a ~$60 price difference to upgrade.

Other than that, great points as always. It's probably good to include that information for the benefit of other people anyway so they don't find this post in searches and say "hey.. I'll just get that", when they'd get more for thier money with something else.

Oops, misread the question.

Still, it'll run but it's up to the OP's friend to first have reasonable expectations about performance and second tune it using /showfps 1 while adjusting the options to see which setting impacts frame rate by how much to fine the balance between acceptable performance and pretty.
