Dual Wield Suggestion!
We already have melee sets with a few ranged attacks (Claws, Spines), so having one or two short-ranged attacks in a set shouldn't be too bad.
Having both weapons out would seem to only make sense if at least three or four of the attacks were ranged.
I guess I'd be more comfortable with a Pistols APP, though.

Again, my suggest is just more for the flashy fun of what you would see in comics/manga.

How few ranged attacks would you be willing to have in the set and still feel that both weapons got reasonable treatment?
(Bonus if using Brawl with the Pistol out used a pistol-whip animation. Actually, you could have a low-damage melee attack with a small chance to Stun for a pistol-whip attack and give the pistol more even footing with the sword, yet not add an additional ranged attack.)
I would say that keeping the pistol attacks very limited in range would help balance out the fact that they are ranged at all, in a melee AT.
Additional Edit: You could wait until GR comes out and see what the Dual Pistols powers look like and then modify a few of those, or use them for inspiration.
Ok, I rarely post in threads about suggested powers, but this one has perked my interest. I think this would be great, but at character creation, a must for me, would be the ability to pick which hand uses the sword and which uses the pistol. That way the "I'm not left handed" comment would be uber fun to portray.
It'd be great for pirates, too--sword and pistol. They could call it the "Swashbuckling" set
Give it a good 3 solid ranged attacks (two single target, and a cone with pistol version of full auto, perhaps), and the rest melee. Make the set flashy (a melee power where you immobilize the foe by stabbing them in the foot would be pretty hilarious), etc.
The Tier 9 heavy hitter could be a "mixed" attack (sword knockback + shoot them a couple of times as they go flying away), but would likely have to be reduced damage compared to other sets heavy-hitters to compensate for the extra utility the ranged attacks would bring.
Sword: 2
Pistol: 2
Dual: 4 (5 for Dom/Corr)
Taunt: 1 (for Scrappie)
I can imagine something like the Dual Blade power for combinations as well. Thinking about this potential set has me doing something I haven't done before. Tinkering with set ideas. In my free time (pre-i16) I'll have to see what I can come up with.

x 2 for sword/pistol switching = 18 animations
x 3 for body type = 54 animations
x 2 standing or flying? = 108 animations
So you want BaBs to make 108 animations for a set that would normally require 54?
Good luck with that one.
I don't have anything against the idea of a Sword/Pistol powerset, I just see it as being HIGHLY unlikely.

Personally, I always found the notion of holding a sword in one hand a gun in the other to just look plain absurd as a consistent fighting style, as it's usually the domain of forced combos. If we DID have a sword/gun combo, I'd much rather it be something more reminiscent of Devil May Cry, where you switch between weapons instantly (if Dante can do it, why can't I?), or a straight-up gunblade. In fact, I'd actually go for DUAL GUNBLADES as used in Oniblade (I'd link to X-Blades, the US version, but that has crappy videos on GameTrailers and the English voice-over sucks), though I can see how people might scream bloody murder over something like that.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

For Scrappers, Stalkers and Dominators!
Dual Wield: Sword & Pistol.
I was thinking about this the other day, and it's a combo I think many would love.
When suggested over my SG global channel, I was sent to the Korean Trailer for CoH on youtube.
A character in the video had this combo, and looked very much like a scrapper.
Maybe...just maybe give it to Tankers/Brutes too. I didn't include them, because I wasn't sure if it felt tanky/brutey enough for them (you know, kinda like Dual Blades).
Big swords with fancy animations would be my ideal choice for the sword.
Still working on what I would suggest for the actual powers however.
I wouldn't want it to just be Katana/Broadsword with a ranged attack.
And I'm not looking for over poweredness either. Just a fun, flashy power combo, that would work great in the superhero setting.
I'll come back and post what I come up with for a set, but do wonder if others think this would be a good idea for a melee set?
