In short, Sony likes making their game systems unnecessarily big and clunky so they can release a 'new and improved' version later and suck people into buying a new system.
(Okay, that's really not true, they just get better deals on smaller proprietary hardware later on and can make the systems smaller, but still.)

What is it with the iPhone still? AT&T is trying to change its package plans, and they are having network problems because of all the iPhones. Besides in a year the iPhone will be on other carriers. Oh, and its a pain in the **** to manage if you want to use it with an exchange server.
