BS/Sheild Critique/Help please

Hi again everyone!

I received a massive amount of help and great advice in this thread here. After the last couple days looking at builds and talking with people and a good friend of mine we've come up with this as a build. I was trying to meet the following critera:

To soft cap my positionals
To NOT take boxing/tough/weave
To not have endurance issues
To not gimp myself ^_^ damage wise
To have hover/fly in the build (blessing of the zephyrs of course)
If possible Aid self (though i dislike the pool)
If possible CP & Phys Perf (to help deal with end issues)
If possible hasten for a better attack chain and potential AV soloing (never done that post i5 and would like to)
Would like the +perception IO somewhere if room

I didn't have room for aid self/aid other sadly enough as I wanted to keep parry and buildup.
I didn't have room for phys perf but I think my endurance will be ok with this build anyway.
The lotg's will cost me a pretty penny but I'm making decent money on the market with crafting and selling so I'll add them as I can afford them.
I got +perception in tactics so I don't need the +per IO
I took maneuvers/tactics to also buff my party nearby and to help cap my positionals.

Any suggestions on what I/we (my friend) could do better?

Wow, you went from poor and with only generic IO sets in your last post to a really dueced out and on the expensive side build on this new one. Those three sets of Oblits, one TOD, set of PShifter, the LoTG recharges and the 3 slot Zephyrs are gonna run you quite a bit more than my sub 20 mill softcapped BS/SD build I suggested. Looks good, if you have any doubt how it will perform endurance wise try it out on test first. I always like my attacks six slotted so I might do slice and parry differently, but I haven't had parry in my build in a while so I'm not sure how I had it slotted.

Heh this is a dream build I expect it to take me some time to build it up and get all the sets. I figured I better have a solid goal in mind as to what to aim for.

Now I did do a ton of bronze ticket rolls. Been running missions/farms for a week now to keep gathering tickets. I've gotten lucky and gotten almost a full set of performance shifters, did get a +regeneration regen recipe which I crafted and sold for 70 mil to add to my 20 mil. I've also gotten 3 +3% steadfast IO's. Kept one for myself and crafted sold the other two for about 20 mil each give or take a couple mil. On one roll for silver or gold I got a numina +rec +regen which i've saved for this build. I ended up selling a TON of junk recipes to the vendor, but then I've been running 3 characters through these missions as the fancy takes me to play one. To save money I've used tickets for salvage too (8 tickets for a 1 in 6 chance at a common you need instead of paying 100k). Probably have burned through a good 40,000 tickets on bronze rolls and salvage.

The LotG's are going to take me forever to get :/ they're running 150 mil blueside. SO I figure they'll be the very last things I can slot but I wanted to make sure I had them planned out. So far I've not even started buying sets yet with my inf. SO it is going a bit slow in amassing the money needed but it is moving forward which makes me happy.

I'm thinking I'll respec into this build and use generic IO's in everything or SOs and just start to overwrite them as I get the new sets lined up.

Now build wise:

I'm so tight on slots that I'm not sure where I'd pull a 6th slot for a couple of the other attacks. I had to aim for lotg's in the future to help the recharge of everything so that I could do without hasten. I'm hoping the dps will be good enough and the endurance drain will be low enough that I can solo some AVs.

Problem is I can't copy to test and try it out without buying all of the sets first and going broke hehehe.

Anything else you can think of that I should change or add? Sets to swap out? Slots to move around?

Well a couple things.....

I see you have an empty slot in Health, an End Mod in OWtS, and Steadfast Res/Def in True Grit.

I'd take the extra slot out of Health and slot a Regenerative Tissue Unique in the base slot. Having an End Mod in OWtS is a waste since it has an end depletion when it expires. I'd move the Steadfast Res/Def to OWtS since it will work there and will boost the resist provided by it. Then move the Numinas Unique to True Grit and replace the Miracle End/Heal with a Numinas Heal.

For me the whole point of soft capping is so that you can increase your damage by dropping Parry. Once you are soft capped the only thing Parry is good for is for halting the rare defense cascade failure which you can do just as easily and without costing you a power simply by popping a purple insp (scrapper lock preference) or backing out of the fight for a few seconds (non-scrapper lock preference).

You could easily give up Parry and pick up Hasten. This will increase your DPS and free up 2 more enhancement slots.

If you want to spend a little more inf. Slot Active defense with Membranes. This increases the defense debuff resistance provided.

What to do with the 3 freed up slots? There are lots of options.

You could add another Membrane to Active Defense.

2 more slots in true grit would allow room for a Miracle End/Heal and a Numina End/Heal.

Or you could add 2 slots to Build Up and 3 slot Adjusted targetting for the global damage bonus and the resistance bonus.

Or you could add 2 slots to OWtS and slap in 2 resistance IOs. OWtS is up 1/3 of the time and can provide alot of resistance in high defense debuff situations or when you are up against things that have powers that are auto hit like the nuking Nictus in the ITF or the Envoy of Shadows.

Or you could put 2 more slots for recharge into Conserve Power to account for the increased end use due to adding Hasten into the build.

Or you could add the slots to Grant Cover and slot extra defense for increased defense debuff resistance.

Here's a build with Aid self and hasten. No OWTS. I might try this myself:

Hi FitsSimmons, thanks for posting an alternative with aid self. it really is tempting to pick that up for the lucky hits that get through.

Milady's Knights. Thanks for posting your ideas. I've read alot of your posts and builds and value your opinion.

The empty slot in health was for a +regen or a miracle Heal, just wasn't sure what i was going to do with it.

The steadfast res/def+3% was in true grit for when I exemp down as I'm trying to keep that in mind with this build with the new SSK system levels are going to fluctuate a lot so I'm trying to plan ahead. If i put it in owts (which is where it was originally and is a great place for one) if I sk below 32 i'd lose access to it as then I'd lose owts yes?

I've only kept parry, as silly as it is, because i like the backup safety of stacking the melee defense and it is a cool looking attack heh. However I could drop it for hasten if needed.

I do want to add 2 membranes to Active Defense in the future when I can afford to buy them as they are also running around 100mil or so per membrane :/

Some Questions

Will the lack of endurance reduction in Obliteration sets make an impact on a constant damage chain where you don't have to stop or worry about running out of endurance?

I could replace one oblit with scirocco, then I'd have to 6 slot true grit with numina's to keep myself capped (using a slot from health and the extra slot from headsplitter which would get the sciroccos set) and the makos with another touch of death. Then the steadfast would have to go back into otws. Just not sure that's really worth it.

Well as a point on exemplaring....

Most of your IOs are level 35 which means that you keep your set bonuses all the way down to level 32.

With the new Super Side Kicking feature you will have OWtS available all the way down to level 33.

That means that the only time you will have all your set bonuses but won't have the res/def IO available are those situations where you've been exemplared to exactly level 32, which won't happen on TFs or Flashbacks since, with only a few exceptions, they take you to the 0s/5s or the 4s/9s.

If your intention is to exemplar alot I would consider using the Steadfast in OWtS, using level 36 IOs to create your primary build, and then making your secondary build one designed specifically to exemplar below level 33.

Edit - Also going Miracle +, Miracle Heal, Numina +/+ Numina Heal in True Grit and then Regen Tissue Unique in the base slot of Health gives you more hit points than your proposed slotting (which increases your regeneration and then multiplies it slightly higher due to the extra regen bonus for 2 slotting Numina's and adding in the bonus from Regen Tissue in Health) and all it costs you is 1.4% resistance to exotic damage types (which you still get when OWtS is active and you increase your smashing/lethal by another 2.9%)

Edit Edit - As an answer to your endurance question with the Oblits it can but it might not depending on how you play. With soft capped defenses you can stay in the middle of the spawn and allow AAO to saturate then unleash your AoEs. My build doesn't have conserve power but it does have hasten mainly for recharge on Active Defense (double stacked active defense provides double mez protection and double defense debuff resistance) but also for Shield Charge and Build up. I can wall farm in Cimerora easily against +2s. (I also farm +3 Brute spawns in the Storm Palace)

I target the Surgeon in one spawn and run up, Hack > Disembowel > Slice. Then I target the Engineer (he's annoying and likes to stay at range). If he was by the surgeon Head Splitter > Hack will take him out. By that time the taunt in AAO has annoyed all his friends and they follow me to the next spawn. While I'm on the way there I target the next Surgeon and Hack > Disembowel > Slice then finish off the 2nd engineer. By that time every thing is bunched up around me and Build Up > Shield Charge (in place) > Whirling Sword leaves only lieutenants and bosses alive. All it takes to finish off a lieutenant at this point is a single, single target attack. Then I can finish off the boss(es) with a few more single target attacks.

Thank you for the feedback!

I will be moving the extra slot from health into True grit and doing a miracle heal+miracle unique +numina heal+numina unique as you suggest.

I'm not sure about moving the extra slot out of true grit and putting the +3% def back into otws, though the idea of doing a secondary build for lower level Sking does have some merit to it. I could slot stuff up way more and ignore things that were higher then L32 or so, though that may need to wait till i've finished this build first. Either way I'll be putting a resistance into owts of some sort per your suggestion instead of the end mod.

I'll try the build with 3 oblits and if needed I'll spend more after I earn more and go with the alternate build I came up with, which I could post for people if they're interested. Just swapped a few sets around is all.

Thanks for the tips on the Cimmeroa spawns. I too tend to hit the healers first

SO far crafting/selling has been really odd. One day a recipe crafted is selling for 20mil and then 2 days later its selling crafted for 10mil. On a side note I am a person who loves to craft/create in mmorpgs and I LOATHE crafting IO's in this game. Its all a huge crapshoot and the market sucks....that is all.

Here is a build that I was working on that had pretty much the same criteria you had (except for hover\fly, I used CJ/SJ but those can be swapped easily)

It has aid self, is soft capped and has a place for the new physical perfection ability (it would replace focused accuracy). This is designed to be somewhat inexpensive. It doesn't require the zephys or as many oblits.

A kismet and a LotG recharge can be placed in the twp phalanx slots when money comes around.

Note that I ultimately chose tough\weave for my build, but was very close to this one.

Thanks for the alternate idea/build there petsummoner, but I don't see tough/weave in that build. Still you have the caps around 50% which is great.

Here's my planned build for my BS/SD. The aim was to keep the build under 75million and use the new mastery powers to help offset endu/regen issues. The RT + Reg is in there b/c I got lucky off of a roll....but the build doesn't depend on it. I also didn't want Tough/Weave and wanted a click heal (not dependent on Inspirations). Parry also puts the Melee Def at over 50.

If I enjoy the build, I'll respec into something more expensive with better global set bonuses....but I usually hold off on that until I'm convinced it'll be worth the cash and I really like the toon.

Feedback is appreciated.
