Why oh why do I still have to have a bright and shiny superhero?

When I first heard about issue 16 my first thought was that I hoped I would be able to turn off all the power particle effects on some of my heroes. I mean I wouldn't expect a fireball not to have an effect and wouldn't want it that way, but not every comic book hero is about the "flash" when it comes to their powers. I don't want my hero that way. It is one of the things that has really bugged me since the game started.

I am some what grateful. I mean Inv/Willpower/etc are able to turn off most of their flash and that is quite nice. I assume some of it just couldn't turn off, so I accept that. What really annoys me is that things like Super Strength and Dual blades didn't get the same consideration and in the case of SS seem to have even more flash (more likely are just brighter about it now). It has always been extremely off putting I don't want/need some bright flash of light when my character hits something with his fist/blades. If I wanted that then I would have picked something like energy (for fists at least) instead, For example I know the best part of seeing Spider-man or Superman hit something when I was a kid was when that bright flash of light went off.

I'm not saying take if off just give me the option to turn it off on those powers that have a personal effect or other visible effects. Maybe not now as you may be past that point, but please at least give it more thought for the future.

I posted this over in feed back as it seems likely better there.

According to what Back Alley Brawler said in another forum, if I remember correctly, there are game play reasons for why not all power effects can be turned off. They are visual cues, especially in PvP, to help others know what power you are using so they can react to it accordingly.

Just color your "bright" powers as dark as you can and they get pretty dim.

I imagine SS wouldn't pack the same punch it does right now without some kind of flash or visual aid, the reactions when hitting things make alot of powers look very lightweight already. Having said that, I'm one of the people who wish we could turn of the graphics on alot of powers (fire shield from blaster epics) so I'm kinda with you on this one :P.

Agreed. I used a dark grey on MA and SR and the effects became considerably more subtle. Of course, SR is kind of subtle to start with. And Dual Blades, unfortunately, can't be tinted, since you're already using the color for the blades.

The reason that your toon is "bright and shiny" has to do with your graphics setting in game. When you first log your toon in go to Menu (which should give the drop down box)/ then select options/ and the last tab under options is graphics and audio(?) (I think its audio, dont hold me to that, graphics is definetly listed on the tab though) and there should be a graphics setting which more than likely is set on recommended.....slide that all the way down and the click apply settings and your issue with the bright and shiny toon will be solved.
