/INV Bonuses
I have a WM/INV Brute and was trying to pick out my sets on mids. Originally I just went after stuff that gave me hp & positional defense. Then a friend told me that you don't get credit for both positional & typed defense. The enemey only has to roll against the higher?
So what would be the best bonuses to focus on for a /inv? |
1) Softcap yourself to positional or typed defense
2) Bring a luck or two.
3) Find a single enemy and let them hit you, monitoring their %chance to hit you in the combat monitor. It should be around 6.75% for a minion.
4) Take the luck to raise your other defense.
5) You see no change in the %chance to hit you.
Now, it could be doing two separate rolls that aren't displayed in the combat monitor, but somehow I doubt this as it would make a positional and typed build nigh unhittable.
I could be mistaken, and if someone has the evidence to prove the contrary, I gladly welcome it.
I would focus on typed defense, mainly smash/lethal and energy/-energy with Kinetic Combat in ST attacks(4 slots), Reactive Armor in resist powers(4 slots), and Eradication in PBAoE's(3 slots). You can easily get 30-35% to those 4 damage types. I would also take Tough, Weave and CJ.
Yes when i started throwing sets in and checked out the totals I was thinking whoa this guy might truly be tottally a badass if im getting all that resistance plus positional AND typed defensive numbers in the 30's. Unless someone can provide us with proof I will assume that you only get the higher of the two types of defense, not both sets. I am taking tough, weave & cj too.
Also, I have never ever used any sets that arent lvl 50's. Ive always just assumed that sets that cap at lvl 30 or 40 would just be inferior to the lvl 50 ones. So, just how much better do the lvl 50's enhance that power? Is it really a big deal or is it worth getting the lower sets for those bonuses that beat the lvl 50 bonuses?
Also, is it even possible to soft cap any defensive type on an /inv? And since there is so much s/l resistance. Wouldn't building up the energy/neg defense make a more reliable, fight anyone brute? Sure you can stack up that s/l defense too & be completly indestructable to that kind of damage. But I want to be able to get by fighting anyone.
You can get very high typed def with Invul. S/L is pretty easy to cap with Kinetic combats. Then Aegis is nice for fire/cold. That just leaves Neg/energy to go and you pick up nice high end def set bonus on those with travel powers, ranged attack and alot of other areas. You can cap em all nicely and have high resists all over. Huge hp with Dull pain. Down side no damage aura or damage booster invul so you want to take a good damage primary like well WM. Which you choose.
You can make Invul completely untouchable with Def and have exceptional Resists. Best of both worlds.

Regarding /invuln; i have a claw/inv scrapper project in her 30s. Life got SO much better when i slotted in some smashing haymakers and reactive armors, and could get around 20% smash/lethal/energy/neg energy def with one foe in range of invinc. Go for typed def, and through that your positional def should be high enough to give you some buffer vs. typed psi attacks, too.
Re: lvl 50 IOs vs lvl 30-40 IOs: lvl 50s IOs do not afford all that greater of a bonus, ESPECIALLY when slotting 5-6 of a set, and ED starts kicking in. most of the time i will shop in the 30-45 range, looking for what is most affordable. if i want to get good enh %'s out of a power that i only have 1-3 slots in, then i might intentionally get lvl 50 IOs.
50s:
Grimmloch, Tactically Delicious, Ugly Frankie, Operative Tracker, CryoFurnace, Professional Help, Silver Sphinx, Aries Knight, Tachyon Aegis, Jade Sphinx
Currently building:
Any one of half a dozen alts!
