...they're the Cubs. And like everything in Chicago, it has to have a chip on its broad shoulders. We're not "the City", like all those annoying Jersey suburbanites call New York; we don't have Hollywood, and our most recent famous son decided he preferred the swampy climate of DC to the bitter Arctic wind of winter and the hot air of summer and City Hall.
The Olympics were stolen from us by St. Louis in 1904, and the 2016 ones may well go to Rio because they've never been in South America. The Bears and the Bulls have been at best mediocre for years. The Blackhawks almost made it to whatever it is in hockey that they do which is good, (Hat Trick Cup?). And the White Sox, well, they're just the exception that proves the rule. I hear that Bueller pitcher's doing well. He has to, after all. John Waters, the guy who gave him his big break, just passed on.
The Cubs are supposed to be the good sports, the team that always almost has it.
It just wouldn't be the same, and it wouldn't feel right.Also, I try to avoid Wrigleyville during baseball season, since the girls there tend to be sorostitutes and the guys tend to use Summer's Eve as a cologne.
