Cannot buy AE slots without paying for monthly subscription

I'm stuck in a bit of a catch-22 here, it seems. Perhaps I am missing something obvious - any help would be appreciated.

I would like to purchase additional AE slots on my accout, and it will not let me enter a card in the in-game store interface. In order to do buy the slots, I need a credit card on file. However, I paid for my account time via Paypal, not credit card. The link to add a credit card to my account which normally appears for credit-card subscribed members is not there on my account options, at all.

According to the NCSoft support, the only way I can add a credit card to my file is to first cancel my account, and then chose a credit card as the 'add a card button' should appear at that point. There are two problems here:

1) It will not let me cancel the account at all. Paying through paypal seems to have put me in this bizarre limbo where it won't let me add a credit card because I'm subscribed, but not cancel my account service because I'm not subscribed (it seems to only check credit card status).

2) I have an option to add my card immediately by purchasing additional game time, without having to cancel, however, I can't just add the credit card. I MUST purchase at least one month of game time with that credit card if I want it on file so I can buy the AE slots. Forcing me to buy additional time to use the shop is ridiculous.

If anyone knows a way that will just let me add my card so I can do this, I'm all ears.

Definitely an issue for official support.

Other than that my only suggestion is under "Billing Summary" of your plaync account page. Try changing/adding a card there.

Good luck with it.

Adding a credit card will not charge you a new monthly fee until your current paid time is up.

So add the card, make the purchase, then remove the card.

Although with the weird Paypal thing being unable to cancel your account, I'm not sure how you'll be able to do that. I was under the impression you could add a credit card even if you paid by paypal.

This.

If you paid for game-time using paypal, it probably only added time to your account, and you should still have a "subscribe" link to add a card from there. If you have a recurring paypal payment, you should then have the option to cancel/unsubscribe as well. How else would you stop paying for the game at any given time? If it isn't there, you aren't looking in the right place, or it's definitely bugged and needs to be reported. If you unsubscribe, it will then give you the "subscribe" option once you do that anyway. (In the meantime, your account will always remain active until the previously paid time expires, so don't worry about losing time by unsubscribing).

In either case, look at it this way... is it really that bad to buy another month of service using a different method? I mean, it's still your money, and if you aren't planning on staying another month, what would you need the extra slots for? lol

As I mentioned, I do not have an unsubscribe link, and I have to cancel the account AND purchase time in order to add the credit card. The 'add a credit card' link only appears, for some unfathomable reason, near as I can tell, if you already have a credit card on the file.

I do not have a recurring paypal subscription, and I am paid up for well over a year once my award for winning their contest earlier this summer is applied, so waiting that long for it to run out is silly, as is buying more time when I have that much banked up already.

This is what their support section says:

To cancel the subscription for a single game account and leave your credit card information on file, use the following instructions:
1. Log into NCsoft Account Management.
2. Click the Game Accounts link on your NCsoft Account Management page.
3. Select the game account you wish to cancel from your list of game accounts.
4. In the Actions section, click the Cancel Subscription button.
5. Review the warning message text and click the OK button if you agree.
6. You may be prompted to complete a brief deactivation survey. You can fill it out if you want to.

I cannot finish step 4, because there is literally no Cancel Subscription option in the Actions section for my CoH account.

I'd recommend calling their Customer Service on Monday as a live person should be able to assist you with this where an automated form system cannot. The number is not a Toll Free number unfortunately, and the hours are Monday through Friday from 12:00 Noon to 5:00 PM Central time. The number for Customer Service is 512-498-4000 according to the NCSoft website, but the number listed at the Support site is 512-225-6359. I think when I called before that I used the number on the Support site, but it's been long enough ago (well over a year) that I can't recall for certain. I do know that both of those numbers are for the NCSoft offices in Austin, TX and the folks I spoke to when I had my problems were very patient and thorough in tracking down the cause of the problem and getting it resolved.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Sounds to me like your case is a special one because of whatever they did to your account to apply the reward. Accounts handled in a normal way should not encounter a problem like this.

You'll have to contact them directly to fix your issue.

Canceling the account is the same thing as unsubscribing. Cancel the account. Apply your credit card - select whatever monthly subscription you feel like choosing, since you're not going to utilize it - you won't actually get charged for any time since your account is not lapsed.

Buy your slots.

Remove the card.

Aggelakis, as I've said, I cannot do either. The option simply does not exist.

I'll call customer support tomorrow.

Out of curiosity, I'm wondering what the list of Actions actually looks like on your "Game Account Details" page.

For example, my active (and subscribed with credit card) account shows:
Quote:
Change Password
----------
Cancel Subscription
Apply Game Time Card
Upgrade Account
----------
Refer a Friend
Invite a Friend Back
----------
Game Message Boards
Download PC Client
Download Mac Client
My inactive account shows:
Quote:
Change Password
----------
Subscribe to Game
Purchase Additional Time (Identical link as Subscribe to Game)
Apply Game Time Card
Upgrade Account
----------
Game Message Boards
Download PC Client
Download Mac Client
Since you are active, do you still have the "Refer a Friend" links, or are they missing as well?
Are there any other differences?

Let us know how this turns out.
