Dual. Core.

Normally, what happens is that I get hubby's hand me down computer while he gets the new one...

This time, he found a nice bargain in a reconditioned computer (It had been returned, hence it took a deep hit in price...). It had a 6050 Nvidia (or something like it) so upgraded that video card puppy...

And now I can see in Ultra Mode without it being a slideshow nightmare! Put it through its paces on Oryo Ryou today...and wow, she's turned into Speedy Gonzales, it's like someone put a perma speed buff on her!

Still died a few times. Now I have to work on getting my rhythm back (no comments from the peanut gallery...) as I am getting thrown off...what makes it so bad is I had just gotten the hang of the defender class...again.

Not too shabby DC. The two things I would address right away with that system though:

1. Upgrade the graphics card. Since it is using onboard video +shared memory and has no dedicated card it would not be suitable for gaming. (Sounds like you did that already... an 8400 is a decent step up from onboard video)

2. Upgrade to a matched pair of RAM in the correct banks. That chipset is about 3 years old but it does support dual channel memory. By having a mismatched set (2GB in one slot and 1GB in the other) you are either defaulting back to single channel mode or are making the memory controller attempt to run in dual mode with an unmatched pair. Some can do this but others can have problems down the line. Plus your may be bottlenecking your dual core processor and not getting it's full potential. I would take out the 1GB and get another 2GB that matches the one you have in there now... talking about $35 or so to solve this.

Just my 2 influ and hey gratz on being able to turn on UM now.

On the memory, thanks, CR...I'll try to get it next month- when the budget has recovered,lol! (even though it was a refurbished model, it still cost a pretty penny, as you can see from the link)

As for the video card...got a replacement card at the store along with the computer...it's an Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS with 518 megs of memory..

Congratulations on the new computer! It's always good times to get a sizable upgrade and suddenly feel like everything is running quicker and smoother.
