Hero Epic Power: Sidekick

Digging up an idea it appears many have had before me.

This was an idea I had when the Mission Architect went into Beta Testing and was further inspired by the upcoming Power Customization features. The basic idea is allowing Heroes, as an Epic Power option, to have a sidekick pet. The powers for levels 41, 44, 47, and 49 would be devoted to this singular concept. In some ways, it would be like having a mastermind pet. The first power calls forth the sidekick and grants the sidekick 2 basic attack options: range and melee. The next 3 powers would be upgrades to the sidekick though, unlike a mastermind pet, do not need to be activated via ‘Equip’ and ‘Upgrade’ like Robot Masterminds. The upgrades would be automatic once the power was selected. The Power upgrades would include options such as defense, travel, and utility. Defense would be to increase the sidekick’s defense, either in avoiding damage or taking it. Travel would allow the sidekick to follow the hero appropriately. Utility would be the option that reflects the AT of the hero. It complements the hero in such a way most of the epic powers do, giving the sidekick an ability that the hero does not that will aid the hero.

I suppose this idea has appealed to me because my first AT was a mind controller, the only controller set lacking a pet. When City of Villains came out, masterminds were given a large allotment of pets. And when CoV went to epic levels, every villain had the ability to have a pet henchperson if they desired. Since it does not really make sense for Heroes to have a Longbow on call to them, having the ability to have a more customizable sidekick seems like a possible answer. The option could even be unlocked as a story arc.

Might be cool

good idea

Interestingly, I recently had the same thought. The only thing I'd add is that it would be nice to be able to define the appearance of your sidekick.

I like this idea! If he is customizable, were on!

<nitpick>

Not masterminds. For what I'd hope are obvious reasons.

Agreed! Ever since I started this game, I always imagined this would be a fantastic feature that should have been made available as a power in an AT that doesn't have pets (or limited pets) or as an epic power. A customizable (CC Version II) sidekick, with set powers, as you suggested based on a melee and ranged set of powers. Maybe even make a couple of different power animation options available as a choice under power customization.

I would completely love to see this on the heroes side!

Images of Captain America/Bucky and Batman/Robin come to mindn how awesome this would be!

Tell that to the MM who was mad at me because Dom's got patron pets and he didn't, he honestly believed it wasn't fair too.
