Rogue Escorts

Need to reach out to the community on this one.

I'm writing an arc in which I want to have an optional objective in which two enemies (of different enemy groups) are talking to each other about a plot point. Ideally when the PC(s) run across them, they aggro and both attack. I would like this to be two bosses, so that they don't wipe completely.

Right now I have the objective set as an Escort, involving a Boss critter as the "Escort" and then a "Single" guard of the "Enemy Group". The Escort is set to Rogue so he also attacks you ('cause they don't want to be captured).

Since it's an Escort, I reasoned that you could "guide" him back to the entrance (i.e. Chase you) in order to win a "bonus" clue about the plotline.

I set up the objective and went into test mode and had three problems:

1. I think the Escort and his guard spawned in very different places (The Escort wasn't guarded and I never found his designated Guard)

2. The unaware and alert text for the Escort popped up immediately upon entering the level, even though he was on a completely different floor (set for back).

3. Once I did guide him back to the entrance, he wouldn't actually get near it because he was primarily a ranged critter, and would just attack at range.

There was another possible error that occurred that involved the "escort" preempting any of the other triggered objectives (as in cascaded objectives were not spawning until the escort was completed) - but I'm not sure if that's actually what occurred (or if I just missed where the correctly spawned objectives). Still, if this is a Known Issue (Escorts trump all other objectives for priority), I'd like to know that.

Anyone got any help on how to make this trick work? Specifics are below:

1. Escort was a Family Quantum Gunner (the boss level), 'cause I needed a Family critter that would spawn over the largest level range (I'm trying to make an arc with a very wide range of accessability).

2. The floor plan was a COH office building, medium size as I recall.

3. Tested with 39 lvl stalker, but had hide off for guiding the escort.

4. Other enemy groups were Arachnos (1-54) and Cage Consortium (1?-40), resulting in a level range (1-40)

Well, for 1 and 2 I'm fairly sure Single means just that character with no guard, hence his rescue dialogue will trigger as soon as the map loads. I think an Easy-setting guard might have the desired result? O.o

3 is just a ranged thing, I think. Dunno how to fix that on preset critters.

The escort overriding other objectives may have been due to quirks with spawn points. Try on another office map to see. Also, double check to make sure the other objectives don't have some sort of prerequisite accidentally set.

1: You can't set an escort to have a specific guard. Furthermore, a rogue escort will not attack anyone until he is freed, I think. I tried it with one set to aggressive, he just stands there until you free him, doesn't attack and can't be attacked, and when you free him he attacks you.

2: Unguarded escorts and allies are "freed" as soon as you enter the mission, so all their pre-freed dialogue triggers when you go in.

3: Not sure about escorts preempting other objectives, but I do believe they show up either first or last (can't remember which) in the nav bar, regardless of what order you create the objectives in.

Okay, at least I can fix the issue with the escort being unguarded. Next time I'll actually read the help text in the MA Creator :X

I'll keep trying with the settings, but I wanted to see if there was a known issue.

I also remembered that I could drop the level range on critters, so I might change the critter to something that normally spawns at a high level but have the level floor dropped on it. Find a melee-based critter that I can use.

Thanks for the attention, folks.

Yeah, about that...as far as I know it drops the critter to the maximum level of the mission. So if he's going to attack you, and the mission is intended to have a wide level range...you can see where this is going.

If he's Family, it should be pretty easy to make a custom, assuming you have room.

Depending on the map you could try to split it up into two separate objectives, assuming that the area where both can spawn is pretty much next to each other - e.g. a battle and an escort.

It may not work out depending on when in the story this should happen, since it is perhaps a bit more likely to find a map with such locations if it is either front or back for both.
