Email Spammage

Oh look! I have new mail and from a lot of people! LOLz I'm popular. This guy "Empty" must really likez me loloololol. Oh wait a minute, it's just a bunch of SPAM!!

I'm sure the devs are working on this... well I would like to assume so anyway. It's just getting ridiculous. We're getting about 20 of them a day, and not from just one guy either. Hitting "Spam" button just doesn't work anymore. The turds just continue to make new accounts or find some way to continuously harass players.

I believe that when you see the name empty it's because the account has been banned after the email was sent to you.

Well, I've suggested that the "Reply All" button is perhaps the most useless button on the Email interface (withthe possible exception of SG interaction), and should be replaced with a "Delete All", which we currently do not have.

And there is of course the Suggestion for a recipient-side filter. Imagine if YOU could set which people could or could not send you ingame Email. You could choose to recieve Emails from RL friends on trial accounts and disable "Recieve from Trials" and "Recieve from Strangers" if they upgrade to full accounts or are added to your friends list. Fewer restrictions would be placed on legitimate users, but RMT-Spammers would waste thier time reaching fewer players per minute. Sure, those who actually want to recieve random spam could opt to do so, but that's only two kinds of folks:
Potential Buyers (who could find these services through out-of-game resources)
And those players who wish to report the spammers.
Imagine if only SG-mates and people on YOUR friends list could send you Email. Do you think that would reduce the amount of random spam you would get?
Then please support "Recipient-side Email Filters" the next time it's suggested.

I sent Positron a PM on the boards (the week before the transition) asking if there were any plans to make any changes to the ingame Email system. I haven't recieved so much as "Your message has been read".
I am not expecting that he would reveal thier exact plans, if they had any, but a general statement would be nice. Even a simple "Yes."

Other suggestions I've heard:
Capping Emails sent per X amount of time.
Charging $Inf for "postage" of Emails. (Not a big fan of this one, though)
Increasing the size of our ignore list or making a seperate one for those ignored as spammers, so as not to unignore regular jerks once the list gets full and the oldest ones drop off.

There's a few more ideas I've forgotten, some decent, some bad.

Old problem is still old. Aren't there several other threads on this same topic?* Did we need another?**
