Hey fellow tankers,
I came up with this build and I'm just wondering if it is looking good so far. I have only used SO's cause i am trying to raise the funds for IO sets but that may be awhile. I am just wondering if the build looks good or if i need to tweak the slotting around to make it better. I am also wondering about endurance and how heavy it will be on my blue bar. I only plan to run tough when needed but weave should be on all the time. Any constructive feedback is welcome.

ugh, i hate how you have to reformat Mid's export output now, looking at these is painful now, plus with no data chunk, I cant just plug it in and really look at it.......

My pissing and moaning aside, I have a kinda old school build on mine and it runs pretty good. I am sure I could get a lot more out of it and would love to see a full IO build for it, hell, maybe I will do one up here real quick like, see what I can come up with.

Ice/WM is fun. No real point to that, just saying.


Dark Armor is like that kid you knew in school that didn't know when to shut up, and no matter how bad he got beaten down, he got right back up again and kept on talking.

Under format, pick phpBB/Zetaboards

as for the build, I capped S/L with one mob on EA, and basically tried to pump up HP, regen, damage and recharge.

Hopefully someone with some solid Ice/* experience will hop on and let us know how we are doing with this. I love my Ice/WM tank, but really am guessing as far as its build goes. I tried to coach my gf with her Ice/Fire, she does pretty well with it, but is with a pure SO build.

If I essentially copied what you posted, I apologize in advance, like I said, I have a hard time just reading the builds, instead I import and look at em.

It looks good, hoarfrost is schedule a enhancements. I think its worth slotting asap in order to get out there tanking sooner. Hibernate, you may as well slot to experience but it looks overslotted. I like to see taunt before Hibernate. If you were to run into Countess Crey at 35, rather than not care what support you have, you may need to without taunt. Clobber at 30 for a defense set is just in time as you could be the only one with a method of taking guardians out before they release a quartz. Whirling Mace is great AoE dps I would of wanted it sooner. On other types of tankers its a good opening gauntlet but your ice.

Wet Ice is not that costly that it needs 2 end redux. Slotting Combat jump doesn't really offer much in defense gain. With both end and def you can gain more by putting them elsewhere.

Regarding the OP's build I would recommend slotting all attacks with the standard 1xAcc, 1xEndRed, 1xRchg, 3xDam, (or the set IO equivalent) except for Icicles, where the Rchg should be replaced with a second EndRed. Currently, the attack slotting is rather random; some attacks have EndRed but not Rchg, some the reverse. Tough does not need 2xEndRed; replace that with at least one more ResDam. (I always slot it as fully as possible.) If you need to pull slots from somewhere, CJ is a good choice--those two additional slots provide less than 1% additional defense. Hibernate is also overslotted for End Recovery; a couple of those slots can be used elsewhere.

I would also strongly recommend that you take the upper tier attacks ASAP, delaying the Fighting pool if necessary. Clobber in particular provides significant damage mitigation by itself with its guaranteed stun, and Shatter and CC are also worth getting immediately.

For an SO build, I think that is pretty solid for the most part, and thanks for the reformat.

I agree, hibernate does not need the slotting, in fact there is a debuff that comes with hibernate making the recharge reductions in it worthless. I keep one in it just so it doesn't look empty, as it's recharge time is as long as the no phase shift debuff. The end recovery in there is kinda "meh" Not really necessary, but if you throw in one health and 2 end reco, you will definitely spend less time in hibernate when forced to use it.

I understand why you slotted the attacks the way you did, I would just take them all sooner. But thats me.

Personally, I skip taunt, if I wanna grab a mob at a distance, I just use fireball, or zip in and smack em. Between CE and Icicles, if you cant hold aggro your are doing something really wrong. Yeah, I know "all tankers should have taunt." Been hearing that crap for years, I have it on some, on the ones I don't need it, I don't have it.

I like a lot of AoE, so I personally skip taunt, and jawbreaker, for and epic pool. When you move up to IOs you can easily skip weave as well.

As for an IO build, I think my build is very solid, but, no Icers have spoken on it yet.

And dammit people REFORMAT YOUR MIDS EXPORTS, trying to decypher that crap gives me a migraine. phpBB/Zetaboards format.

Thanks for the input guys. I will try to move slots around to get all attacks 6 slotted. But how should i slot hibernate? Just leave it with the slot it comes with? I need to go home in order to get the build and change it but i will post the revised build when i can.

yeah, I would leave it with one slot. You will get refilled on health and end before it runs out, and like I said, more than one recharge is completely pointless. Even the one recharge is suspect, and a health may be better.

If it were my tank, I'd go for something like this: 44.8% S/L Defense, 46.1% N/E without EA. 37 HP/sec regen rate, 2650 HP, both without Hoarfrost being active. 37.5% global rech and some +DMG on top of that.

This is just a quickie so it might have some flaws, but it's roughly similar to what I have on my Ice/SS.

Looks good, should get a lot of mileage out of that build til you can move up to IOs.

DSorrow, interesting use of leadership. I have thought of trying that a few times. As far as other power choices go, Permafrost is garbage and is completely unnecessary. Taunt, is easily skippable. Hasten I could see more if you had fewer attacks, but the recharges on the attacks are fast enough that Hasten is really just going to serve to burn end faster and dump it when it drops. Skipping tough and weave is possible, but to be honest I would rather have them both, for higher S/L defense, and some resistance to S/L. If anything, I would keep weave, take maneuvers and assault, and skip hasten still. You would then be able to reslot the Kinetic Combats I had in the build I posted and go for other set bonuses, and probably save some cash to boot.

Just out of curiousity, what possible benefit do you get by taking Boxing at 24 and Clobber at 30 when you're not taking Tough and Weave until 35 and 38? If you simply switched those two, you'd get your most damaging power six levels earlier without effecting anything else in your build.

Now mind you, I also think it's a bad idea to delay Shatter and CC for Tough and Weave, since those two attacks provide lots of damage mitigation, but taking Boxing instead of Clobber at 24 is just pointless, IMO.

Couple of small things with your build;


Wet Ice has two EndRed IOs where Icicles doesn't even have the equivalent of one; move the second EndRed from Wet Ice to Icicles.

Glacial Armor isn't slotted properly. Ice relies heavily on Defense so making the best of it would be a good idea. I'd never skip slotting it. Also with Weave you could very easily soft cap E/N Defense as well, which is something I would definitely do.

Leadership powers are way overslotted for EndRed. At max I'd go for the equivalent of two EndRed SOs which means about 60% EndRed.

Change the Recharge IO in Hibernate for a Healing IO. Hibernate triggers a two minute NoPhase power which prevents you from using Hibernate until the NoPhase is gone. With Hibernate's base recharge being two minutes, any additional recharge slotting is wasted.

Slotting Health: You should remove the Numina: Heal/Rech in Health because it doesn't really do anything. The +Healing doesn't help you one bit because Hoarfrost has a Resistance component in it, and the two Heal IOs with the Heal/End are enough to cap your Healing enhancement in Health.

General slotting of attacks, I'd drop the Chance for Disorient. It doesn't seem to warrant one full slot because with a soft capped build and lot's of KD from WM you probably wouldn't even notice it. Also this would help getting the attacks slotted to be more Endurance and Recharge efficient.

This is a slotting idea, its high (passed soft cap) in energy and neg energy def from going for other bonuses but it can be useful.

yeah, I posted then reworked that build with leadership in it, and yeah, I dont like the build anyway. the end use is just abominable.

as for how I slotted health and hibernate. yes, I know those enhances dont do anything in the power, wanted the set bonuses.

I had already stated that heal was better than recharge in hibernate.

I will briefly state here what I stated in another Ice thread, and to put it very bluntly, I dont give 2 squirts about glacial armor, and take it to hold a LoTG recharge enhancement. almost all damage in game has a S/L component. My DA has capped S/L, about as much E/NE defense as this build, maybe less, with maybe 30% resist to en. Doing the anti matter arc, which is chock full of nrg damage, no problems. none. zero. The map with all the robots constantly firing energy attacks, rounded up a ton of em, then turned em to rubble. If I ever have any problems, I may change my attitude on the subject, til then.....

Shannon, again, yeah, the slots would have been better placed almost anywhere else in that build, I am kind of ashamed of it. If I had waited 5 mins I had a better build setup with some of the other ideas I had. Then I had a meltdown because I lost the build I had planned on using on my own Ice/WM. I am not ALL that worried about it, as I have too many project toons to actually IO all of em. At least right now anyway.

Mkay, as for why I took clobber so late. It was because when I put the build together I did it quickly, and I was finagling crap around. While I try to setup builds with leveling and examplaring in mind, it doesn't always turn out that way. Don't be so damned nitpicky.

I still hate taunt. Especially on Ice. At least there are no poop boots.
