Ooh, join Roleplay Board...
Uhm, I'm quite new to CoX roleplaying, and MMORPG roleplaying in general, but I experience this merge confusing. For example, Deaths Row RP. I was away for a week, and the boards got merged in the meantime. I got back and I was excited to read what had been going on since I was away and whooaaah!
The point what I am after is that if some plot is also played in the forums and in the game, and if there is a hero or villain that participates the plot, one should keep in mind that someone could also try to contact that particular person in game. If he or she is in the different server... there is no-one to find in the game.
I been seeing the diffrence between the two styles of RPers as well. Thought there are alot of Rpers on the US side we do have groups. To help with ideas we have a few OOC forums going.
The Whitmoore OOC, Is for the Whitmoore RP it's an apartment complex based in Steel canyon.
The Villain OOC is for the Château Rouge but also for any Rp from the Villain view. It's hard to keep a good Badguy story going!
There are others as well so stop by and introduce yourself.
HA here us US Rpers have already started entering your RP forums!
As for Characters well some of mine are Ingame and some arn't. When I write I'm in a slightly different mindset then when I game. Sometimes the two over lap for example I made a Cabal Witch in game to get the personality and ideas I wanted. Then with what I had in mind was to my liking I used it in the boards. My Cabal witches are Rped on the Paragon University RP.
Dreg I made just for the EU Forum Death Row RP. So far he's not in the game at all the idea was spawned only after I read what has been going on.
Some of my characters I make I have the RP effect them. One of my characters Basarab I made so he could be good or evil (this was before Going Rogue was announced). In the Forum RP he became a good guy but that was after the story drove him to be a hero.
Suggestion: mark the threads somehow that people will know that participating characters should be available in game, too. Defining which server is in question would also be nice. |

Continuing on from what Rotten said, Whitemoore can take months or longer to advance a single 'day'...
and the Villain/Chateau, well its similar.
If you want to talk to any of the people involved, it would be best to talk to them via PMs or via the OOC threads. There is a US global chat channel that most players are on, but I don't know it.
I can't speak for the others, but every single one of my characters are a real toon somewhere, usually on Virtue, but not always.
Other threads to look into are the Two Six, and The Final Fight. Personally I've limited myself to the Villian area for now... does that help at all?
Sig characters appear in the Chteau Rouge thread starting from post #100

Three of mine don't exist ingame at all. Of the rest, one is on Victory and all the others are on Virtue.

So how about we list the different RPs were running. That way we can read on what each group been up to.
I think the NA players are misunderstanding what Redefette means.
A lot of the EU forum based RP ties directly into events happening within the Union Server based RP.
Either as backstory, or the chance to play out events that simply aren't possible on the server.
The shorter stories lend themselves to advancing time to keep up with ingame time (though we've been known to fudge ingame timespans too...).
---
From what I see, US forum based RP is played in the exact opposite way. And that's fine. BUT...
If you go into a EU forum based RP thread and start posting, people will be under the impression that you're within the Union-universe, and can be addressed and contacted as such.
Which means even more work for the other forum and server RPers (really, we're the same group in general, we do both) when trying to fudge why Mr Grandstate the Hero is in a big battle... which the group won... but doesn't turn up when the all survivors come and celebrate (for example).
---
And for that reason, I support noting that forum RP threads come in one of three flavours:
1. NA-Centred - These threads are about events that take place on the American servers, people can take part, but should bear in mind that EU members won't appear for ingame events.
2. EU-Centred - These threads are about events that take place on the European servers (usually Union), people can take part, but should bear in mind that NA members won't appear for ingame events.
3. Free-for-all - These threads are about events that take place in the Forums universe, and everyone can take part without having to worry about events happening on a server.
---
Now, disagree if you wish, but it would probably be fairer to new RPers if we could at least come to some sort of agreement over it.

I'm going to use a bit of Comic book lingo here.
Your right the NA Players see the forums as seperated from the game thought there involving the same characters sometimes. Here how I see it.
The Game is the main book of the comic canon All the adventures there happen.
The Forum is another book using spiderman you have The Amazing spiderman, Spectacular spiderman, and an update of the story in Ultimate spiderman. All in themselfs are considered long term stories. All are considered Cannon books just from another view.
Then you have the stories these are written and posted on the Forums but aren't meant to be RPed. So these are Graphic novels stories that give a more detailed view of a character.
And to continue the comic theme here there also the Comics that are group based. For example we NA server RPers play Whitmoore appartments. If it was a comic it be like say the Avengers, or X-men involving key characters that could and often do have there own comics at the same time.
Now does that mean what happens on the Forum don't effect what happens RP in game? No Just the other day me and Rebel were RPing characters in game talking about what happened in Forum. It just what happens in Forum is one Comic and what happens in Game is another but both affect the character over all but are not directly tied.
Comic book example is how in Amazing spiderman Spidy makes a deal with the devil to save Ante may from death but it cost him his marriage. During the Back in Black time all the books had spiderman in the black suit but not all followed the same story at the same time.
I already understood what you're saying Rottenluck.
The issue is that that's not how the EU servers forum RP traditionally worked.
We are now sharing a combined location where our two RP facets used to have their own extra sideline of RP, with two different sets of rules and traditions associated with them.
We are going to end up butting heads on some issues. That is to be expected. But rather then stating the differences between our two sides, and how incompatible they will be, and claiming one way is better than the other, or one way works better for (the collective)you...
...Let's just work on making it as comfortable and workable for everyone, ok?
---
I wouldn't like to see anyone left out, or felt barred from entering an RP Session. However people will have to recognise that there will be times that no amount of fudging the story will allow CharacterX to join StoryY because of the EU/NA server divide. That isn't people freezing others out, it's a logistical problem and it will happen from time to time. What we have to do is decide on how to best soften that blow, and ensure there are opportunities and traditions in place that allow us to move beyond it without falling into a civil war over the issue.

The only logical way to do it is to have an OOC comment at the beginning of a new RP stating that it has in-game ties.
For anyone that needs or wants to use one of my characters in the EU servers go ahead and ask. I don't mind other writers Just give me heads up so I can adjust what I post in the Forums.
On a side note I have created Dreg but had to name him Dreg of Boomtown seems the server I made him on had a Dreg already.
One reason we don't tie in-game with forum often is it's hard for us to get on at the same time on the same server. I most often only see Rebel on when I am so I just don't have the luxury to get with a large group and RP in game.
This seems fine to me. The only thing I'd have any kind of objection to is if people started telling me I'm not allowed to participate in a given thread cause I'm a NA player and its an EU thread. Cause if it gets to that, why bother having merged forums in the first place?

@FloatingFatMan
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
I do like the idea of the forum verse, it lends to the comic feel of RP topics, at least the open ones. New faces, mighty Captain Protagonist sweeping in and doing his thing, then off on another adventure and not seeing him at the local malt shop after the adventure ((GG, PD or where ever people gather on the US servers)).
Makes the forum plots seem more like a cross over event, with different characters from various books popping up, rather than X-men story line Ten guest staring Wolverdeadpoolman.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.

As often as possible.
By as many girls as possible.
Preferably at the same time.
Seriously, though (if I can remain that way for more than a few seconds), for anyone who doesn't know - FFM's taking the mickey. And while it might look like that's an accurate description of ol' Dicky-boy (at first glance), it is, in fact, a load of old cobblers.
Not that I mind people RPing as if it was true, of course.
