I know someone that solo's GM's on a Bot/Poison, not sure how much of that is the bots and how much is the poison. My Necro/Dark can solo a good few AVs where as my Merc/Dark can't so I guess that puts Necro in good stead at least, poison does have killer debuffs. Its the staying alive factor it may lack, Necro's not good against spike damage as the pets need time to heal themselves where as Thugs and Bots get hit less and thus a ST heal would keep them nicely topped up I would think.

sounds like it will be necessary to take taunt/provoke to keep the aggro away from the pets...

In response to your specific questions:
1. is this combination viable and fun to play?
Necro/, absolutely. Like Cynic, I've a Necro/Dark MM. Love her to bits. /Poison, also a big yes. Needs a bit more attention than dark though, as all bar the -slow puke spray are Single Target
2. what powers can you skip (Poison trap and?...)
Poison Trap, The De-Mez thing from poison, The Rez (if soloing, would take if teaming). All Primary attacks (Dark Blast, Gloom etc...).
3. is it possible to solo most AVs?
EBs, without a doubt. AVs, would require a bit more work. As Cynic said, the Zombies are quite delicate. The Tier 1 pets I honestly use a Hit Point fodder, and I've got +def and +res coming out of all orifices, and a PBAoE Heal. Which leads me onto:
3.1. what power pools do you need, to be able to solo the AVs?
Leadership, Perhaps Medicine, Taunt to make the most of BG mode, and take Soul Extraction and 2 slot it with the Pet Damage Procs (+res and +def). You'll need as much as you can get. With that heal and maybe Aid Other 5/6 slotted, you should be able to keep Grave Knights and Lich alive long enough to do their thing. Also take Black Scorpion for a Patron for Scorpion Shield. +def is a little bit more complimentary for an AT with such low HP.
I have a Necro/Poison. I got her to 50 and never played her again. Ever. The last levels felt like I was slogging through hell. It's too darn squishy for a MM and the Damage output isn't that great if you ask me.

Poison imho aint the best side for necro's, on the US i have a necro/dark, EU i have a necro/traps. Personaly traps still is best set for necro, single target they ditch out lovely damage.
