PVE VET - PVP NUB... will a wp tank do?
WP is generally decent enough although it doesn't really shine until its IO'd. You also have to take into consideration that there are a lot more outside effects now in PvP; Diminishing returns for one. So all those nice numbers get chopped down to make things a little easier for everyone.
Into the bargain, you don't have a heal and like most characters that don't two well slotted critical AS hits will make a fair dent in your health; if not kill you there and then (obviously not so much with a tank). Personally im no expert at pvp i can supply the general info but you'd be best listening to someone who knows a little more
What server are you on and i'll join you and see how you PvP, because sometimes methods can be ineffective. After all you can't expect to walk into PvP and straight off be a killing machine. It takes experience more than anything
Im playing mainly on union. But since that server's character slots are all full with mostly 50's, ive started playing a little on defiant aswell.
I recently spoke to some people and they convinced me both a energy/reflex stalker and a ice/kin corruptor (alot of slowness) are good in pvp. So ive started one of both.
For a beginner in pvp and a lover of awesomeness, what would you advice me to make for pvp? (new AT's allowed, got access to pb/ws and [censored]/widow as well)
The most popular pvp toons atm are.
ss/ice tank
elec/therm corrupter
resistance based stalkers.
a soft capped /SR scrapper brute etc.
an some blasters but I dunno which ones, I hate the buggers hehe.
i'll be online around 7pmish tonight we can head into RV if you want i'll give you some tips.
there's quite a lot to lrn but if you build your tank right it should be cappable.
i'll bring my farm /elec brute which will give you an idea an ill exsplains power choices etc

First off, welcome to PvP and I hope you'll have fun.
Second, do you expect to be doing PvP over a longer time period? If so, I wouldn't worry too much about what is currently a good AT/combination of powersets and just pick a character you enjoy playing. The developers are giving PvP more attention now than in a long while, and things are therefore in a state of flux.
IO:s also makes a very large difference to most builds.
A willpower/stone tank should work well I think, once you've put some IOs into him. Just keep in mind that very high numbers of any quantity usually runs afoul of the Diminishing Returns mechanic. Regardless, you will need good ToHit and good Accuracy both if you fight defense based characters. I recommend the Focused Accuracy power from the Energy Mastery pool, if you are able/want to pick it up (the other pools have other powers that could be useful in PvP). Further, the Kismet unique will boost your ToHit and +Accuracy set bonuses are common in different sets.
If you haven't already noticed it, there are two differences to the PvE game that are worth keeping in mind, especially for Willpower:
1. There's no mez protection, though on the plus-side player mezzes will not last very long either. NPC mezzes can be very irritating in the PvP zones, as are the Heavy mezzes, but there is a fix for that on the way in I15.
2. Any toggle powers that does anything to an opponent will shut off if you are mezzed. This includes Rise to the Challenge, which debuffs the ToHit of an adjacent enemy. Damage auras are also obviously affected, as are toggle debuffs from powersets like Radiation.

I don't know who told you this but they don't know as much about PvP as i think they're pretending they do.

well an energy.sr would have been mint before the nerf.
to stop getting AS from stakers then a damage aura is great, like the 2 on /ice tanks, /elec brutes /fire etc.
it realky screws stalkers over.
/wp is good but mine gets detoggled when I get mezzed or end drainec then I get owned lol.
stone does nice ST damage so not a bad toon, but some toons will jus smash you, but don't let it put you off.
get a nice build an practice/stick with it. mayybe cya online later

Tnx for the info guys!
So for set bonuses, what am i looking for other then to-hit?
resistance? defense? or even more regeneration?
WP is never going survive zonal PvP without getting bummed most times but can still do really well 1v1 if play well.
Here's a build i've come up with.

After 44 months of playing a proud PVE hero, i've finally decided to give that PVP stuff a go.
At the moment my fav toon is my lvl 50 willpower/stone tank so I was thinking to drop him in the pvp pit to see what happens.
I got butt whipped!
Couldn't hit anyone and then a stalker and a bane ran up to me, both assasinstroke me and I was pretty much done for..
The fight took about 40 secs.
So I realized i should use that 2nd build thing, (which I never use anyway) to make a PVP build from it.
Knowing I didn't hit [censored], I focused on the acc improvement compared to my PVE build.
But then i started wondering.. is a wp tank any good at all in pvp? since it has nothing capped.. will i just be weak no-matter what i do with it?
I've tried playing Mids a bit to see what i can push my WP/Stone tank to both acc- and resistance-wise and this is what i came up with. (see a cpl lines down)
NOTE: It has no sets in the build. was just trying to see what i could improve by swapping and re-slotting powers.
ATM i got 120 million inf on that char, but im sure i got another cpl hundreds shattered around my other toons coming to around 300 million i guess.
Is Willpower / Stone tank worth slotting for PVP? If so, what should I be looking at? Or is it a lost cause?
Or would one of the following characters be alot better in PVP? (all lvl 50)
Scrapper SR/Claws
Scrapper Spines/Fire
Scrapper Dark/Regen
Tank Ice/Fire
Tank Stone/Super-strength
Tank Willpower/Stone
Controller Fire/Kin
Defender Emp/ARch
Defender Dark/Dark
Brute Invun/Super-strength
Blaster Elec/Psy
