Performance of the Mac client?
[ QUOTE ]
I've got some minor problems with the user interface, especially the Options menus. The screen resolution snaps back to 1024x768 every time you try to change it, with the message "You must log out before these changes will be applied" -- but if you do log out at that point, the changes won't be made! The only way I could get the screen resolution to change was to select a new resolution then immediately log out *without* applying the changes; when I restarted the client, I found it using the resolution I had selected-but-not-applied. This has been a problem since the beta, for me, but it apparently hasn't gone anywhere.

This sounds like the long standing "feature" in the game client overall.
What you need to do is select the resolution, then click apply and OK the dialog. You'll note the resolution changes in the menu. Change it back AGAIN, then log out without clicking apply, and it should work correctly.

Hmm, this may be what I accidentally did, in fact. I guess it's been a long time since I changed the resolution under Windows -- thanks, I didn't realize this was a problem in the client itself!
I can second this method working, as I used it a couple of days ago after changing monitor and being able to go from 1280x960 res to 1280x1024.
As for the random slowdowns, not a clue, sorry. Maybe the American forums have a clue if they have a mac section?
US Post on Mac Frame Rate issues, just skimmed it but maybe there's something there?
The game is playing great on my macbook, really impressed with the game so far.

Yes, there's some helpful stuff in there! The most useful was someone pointing out that they were running low on memory (confirmed through the Activity Monitor), because they had "only" 2 GB of RAM on their Mac Pro. That's the same situation for me, so I'm guessing it may be part of my problem, as well. There's also some discussion of differences in the way OS X uses the dual cores, vs. Windows - I don't really understand it, but I do notice that the computer runs much cooler under OS X, suggesting that maybe it's not driving both cores full blast constantly. (One poster in that thread suggested that the benefit of forcing both cores to be fully on was relatively minor compared to all the extra heat, though.)
So in summary: thanks a lot for the link!
Hi there, i m very interested in this game, I have mac, and i wanted first to download the 14 day tryout, im in Europe. I dont know where is the problem, but i cant download the client, is there some problems with server these days? or what ? I opened account and everything so far is ok, but when i click on download client, it just hangs up. nothing happens. Where cud be the problem ?
I'd suggest going HERE and downloading the MAC client directly.

Hmmm... shouldn't be.
Due to the draconian office internet usage policy I have to suffer with, though, I can't actually go and have a look myself (though it does do some weird freezing up when I try, rather than just opening a new window and telling me to stop looking at "Games").
Anyone with better access than I do who can take a squizz at the ftp site and check it's working?

It's working fine for me, running IE7 in XP at work. Perhaps it the browser he's using? Try a different one maybe?

Cheers, FFM. My next suggestion, then, is to install a piece of FTP software and use that, rather than going in via browser, if someone would be kind enough to let starinsh69 know which file he's looking for.

i use safari browser, and yes, the web page just freezes
The installer is ftp://client.coh.com/EU/MAC_CoH_Installer_EU.dmg I think.
Try using Firefox or Opera to get them, my (Linux) version of Opera here has no issues with them
Okay, I can get to that page using Safari on my iPhone, which makes the problem slightly more strange.
The file you're looking for is called MAC_CoH_Installer_EU.dmg

well, yesterday from the original web page i got the file, but when i pressed to download it, it told that im disconnected... ( i tried several times) so i started to think, maybe the server is down or something
ok, i will get opera and try with it, thnx for help.
Fair point, but it really doesn't look like that's the case, given that several of us (admitedly non-MAC) users can access it.
I'm wondering if it's a piece of firewall or anti-virus software that you may have running that's preventing it accessing the ftp site properly (cue silly jokes about no-one writing viruses to infect MACs).
Try disabling any such software you have and giving it another go, otherwise try a different browser. I don't know enough about MACs to offer any suggestions, sorry.
As you can tell, we really want you to try out this excellent game.

Hi, I'd like to open a thread for people to report on their experiences using the Mac client. How's it working for you?
I've found that the graphics are working well, and overall the performance is quite good. The only downside seems to be that the Mac client is subject to occasional extreme slowdowns that I've never experienced in Boot Camp: every five or ten minutes, I'll see frame-rates drop to slide-show like levels, then recover, for no apparent reason (i.e. not because I went into a high-traffic area).
Don't get me wrong, I'm delirious to have a Mac client! But there are things that could still be buffed up a bit.
