Actually, there have been several posts to the effect of "I had a really great week, teaming was easy, this is a great game" but they don't last as long as the doom threads, because people like doom.
Guillermo: My answer to you is this... Generally, this cry comes from people on Defiant. I would be perfectly happy for NCW do state that they would free transfer characters and SGs from Defiant to Union, name clashes being resolved in favour of the existing Union name.
I think it would destroy the game, since server mergers are seen as a failure and often result in the game dying soon after, and that would be a shame.
However, if they wanted to implement a move from the low population server, to the higher one, then I feel that's reasonable.
Are you happy to move, knowing you might well lose your existing names? It is actually fair, seeing as it is usually Defiant players asking for this?
Or, if you're that bothered, pay for your main characters to move to Union. It's not that expensive. You could spend more on a night at the pub without any trouble.

Most of those new characters I see ARE new subs. I check badges and rarely do I see more than one or 2 vet badges, often none. I often get asked quite rudimentary questions too...

I did the same when I restarted in the Summer. Very few players with any more than 3 Vet badges. Most with none.

You don't say which server you play on the most. Do you really find it that quiet on both? You also don't mention if you play Villains or Heroes mostly and if you find it quiet on both?

Urgh yeah i have to agree that it's best to join a task force or trial when you are near the limit of it. I find it much more fun being able to hit things and making a difference in the team.

Me and my gf really enjoy CoX, especially my gf. But we just kept getting bored after a short while, because there aren't many players around most days ....making the world feel a bit empty and less immersive.

Hmm i find that some nights are worse than others. As a server merge is not going to happen then i can only suggest that you make some more friends 
I play both Defiant and Union, but mainly Union so if you fancy some company there then you are more than welcome to look me up

I generally get in game around 8pm. I'm a roleplayer so spend a lot of time in Galaxy City, and whilst there, get a LOT of blind team invites, no matter what level char I'm on. So much so that I usually end up having to hide from search. I can pretty much guarantee you that anytime I want to team, I'll be on one within 5 minutes.

My SG is a roleplay SG. Not big on going out teaming a lot, doesn't stop me finding plenty of teams. Maybe you should try forming them instead of waiting for invites to come along? Personally, I don't need to bother as there's plenty of PuG's asking.

Maybe if you are in one of the few large Super Groups it's easier. I don't know.
But for a new player, not interested to be forced to join a large Supergroup, it's pretty hard to find other players at this time.
[/ QUOTE ]i got a highish SG as in prestige wise and it mainly me in there running my legs off to keep it at it is (a wife and some old friends pop in now and then). but you don't need to be in a large SG to get around on here....it making friends. Best way to get noticed i think is running TF/SF then people add you to global and ask you to join team for amount of things or if not that suit you...make you own SG and then coalition with some other SG...it be good idea to hook up with active SG as they likly to have alot more people looking for teams

You have you and your gf. I used to absolutely love running duos with my partner. We sit in the same room. Who needs Ventrilo?!
Frankly, most teaming in this game seems to involve a steamroller effect. People seem to like it. Most MMOs are actually based around soloing, so teaming is a steamroller to crack a nut, and if you do street sweeping or the like, that's exactly what you see in CoX.

Our mains are indeed on Defiant as back then it was supposed to have the better community (more RP going on etc. Wich was indeed the case till a year ago when lots of people were still playing).
As I play a lot more then my gf and with the new Level pact system now in place. We might reroll anew on Union and try there.
We are still thinking about it. With now christmas coming up, we are very busy (now I live in Norway I notice it's quite a big family happening the coming days preventing us from playing hehe).
But we tried rerolling on Union before the summer this year and didn't really notice any difference at all and so decided back then to stick with Defiant.

But, really, this issue has been debated to death here, it is very divisive and the guys in the red suits have alredy said a server merge is not on the table. There is no point in bringing this up yet again.

Union has always been the "Unofficial RP server" for CoX EU. Heck, from back when I joined the game (Sept 05), I remember looking at these forums and saying "ooh, good job I picked Union, then, that's where the RPers are!"

1)If by some method of compacting players onto a single server left me without one of the names I have taken for my own across my two accounts, I would leave. I'd hate to do so because I still love this game but even though I am not an RPer my characters are more meaningful to me than some pixels and a database entry would suggest.
2)Don't care a jot about a global name.
3)More of the people I know would leave the game due to point (1) than not.
4)After any such compaction (1) I don't doubt that there would be an increase of active players on that single server but I would expect that single server to return PDQ to levels of players that exist now on a current single server, making whole process rather pointless and destructive.
5)Because player numbers would take a dive, I'd further expect to see remaining player numbers fall further.
6)Any such move as (1) would let the wider MMO community know that the game is dying causing even more people who might be interested to not even join further increasing the rate of player loss.
7)Forthcoming releases of two other MMOs within this same genre at the same time as the existing one is 'dying' is a good idea why?
8)How much is Cryptic paying you to make these DOOM threads?

Tip for next time: the rivers in Vegas are really quite small unless you're prepared to drive out to the Wash or Lake Mead, and that's really taking you away from all the other action and amenities.

He is, essentially, right though. Anyone coming here to see what the game might be like, and how the community is, will have seen a huge great long stream of threads saying that the servers are empty and the game is doomed. You're just adding to the bad press and ensuring that fewer people join the game.
