CoX drawings by Darth Delicious
Black and white are the easiest things to color because all you need are highlights for black or shadows for white I use the color of the background to do shadows and the color of the light source to do highlights.
Btw Darth Delicious that piece is looking good
Been colouring a bit today...
Another CoH drawing I had lying around for quite some time actually... Gosh the woman is pale! Basic colouring sofar...still loads to do... |
On the Black/White thing... perhaps the difference has to do with the artists background.
Coming from pencils I thought black a challenge and white fairly easy (a little finger smudge gets a nice light
shade) in pens/ink black was easy and white (especially white hair) was tough but now working with digital neither is that bad.
P.S. @Henri: Half right buddy it's true White and Black are not colors but they are not really shades either. Technically it depends on if you are dealing with B/W as pigments or as light but generally speaking White is all the colors of the visible spectrum mixed and Black is the absence of all color (i.e. the absence of all light) that's why when you are in a room and turn the lights off everything turns black even though the objects in the room still "have" colors.
Before I go crazy, here is a guide on color theory I feel does an excellent job of laying out ideas and methods for understanding how colors interact with each other.

Late response.. but.. oh well... Thanks for the feedback sofar peops!
As for something else... as most of you know I won the July F-art Battle, with my filmposter: Neko's Mischief, winning also an actual trailer of the movie, made by the awesome Samaraiko.
The start of the making will be soon... so there were some new ...ratings!
Neko's Mischief went from PG13 to Restricted!
Also changed the "super" logo...as DeeDee Productions now has "the eyes" as logo .
No further changes occured.
Just wanted to have that changed for the trailer .

It was out of my hands! *giggles*
Since PG13 brought up so much talk... I thought I'd have it rated again *nods*
Now you'll have to be 17 or older... (according to Google... we use different ratings here)
Let's face it... It's a violent film! I mean.. whole cities... (or at least one) gets destroyed!
And then there's the sexy stuff .
I wouldn't advise it to kids .
Oh and also.. check this out.. and please respond if you're optimistic about it...

(don't mind the peops talking about coloured text... it appears they're not big fans of that... )

Time for a little update. This request is coming really slow! I hope I'll finishe it before the year 2012 *giggles*.
Anyway...new dress for Saira! (and yes... I definitely used a reference!)
Still a lot of work to do on the dress. I'm not completely satisfied yet....
Though Saira herself still needs a lot of work too obviously
*waves*

SUPER dress, DeeDee!
Looks like you're going to need to upgrade the 'realism' of those arms and wings a bit. Face is nice, hair is getting there, torso is fine, though it's a bit 'softer focus' than the dress, so that might cause 'dissonance' for the viewer.
This just keeps getting better as you work on it! Yay!
Be Well!
Fireheart
True, but that will just confirm that the top of the dress is held on with glue-stick.
Be Well!

I CANNOT wait for the trailor that Samaraiko comes up with! She does totally AWESOME trailers!

Yeah, like I said.. still a LOT of work to do on Saira... I think I'll have to bring down the dress (mind... not undress) to make it more suitable for the rest of the drawing as I won't be able to bring the rest up as realistic as the dress looks *giggles*.
Thanks for the feedback peops!
(odd, I'd swear I had replied on this already.... *shrugs*)
@VexXxa: Thanks! And me too! But the work is in progress as we speak *bounces eagerly*

Here's a little something I've done recently.
For a full description I send you to my DA page.
Just want to say, it's a drawing by Andrew Wildman of CoH toon Jessica (Gravity Mistress).
I took part of that drawing and altered to suit what I was planning to use it for, and coloured it.

*pouts* Now look what you made me do with all that talk of chibis!
I was going to jam something...and came up with thís!
A little chibi portrait (if there is such a thing) of my main male toon Mysterious Mike.... Just a portrait...because I struggled madly trying to get him a decent body...
My muse is poisoned with chibis!
He does look kindah cute though.... wrong.. but cute *giggles*
Now I'll go and try to make my muse focus on other stuff *get's whip*. I'll teach 'm going chibi on me!

Due to the fact that I've got my customized login screen going *cheers happily*, I thought I would like not only DeeDee to be on it...but Mike too!
So... I went sketching.... borrowing the awesome trade/collab drawing of Dee by CR and me of DeeDee (I hope people haven't fallen asleep by now...) and drawing Mike right beside..or behind her...not quite sure which one it is *giggles*.
Obviously I can't draw like CR can...so I "overdrew" (is that a word?) CR's drawing of Dee so she would match the style in which I drew Mike in. Sofar... I think I'm digging it
Anyways.. a little preview!
Will need to sort out both of their suits *nods*.
Feedback is welcome btw!
Edit: Sorted out the suits.. and gave 'm some basic colouring.

Cheers VexXxa!
Thought I'd put up another preview, as I'm busy with colouring. Trying to use everything I've learned since my first colouring.
(wow... just saw I started colouring in February... 2011! It feels like I've been at it for years!.... is that bad?)
I made a start at shading 'n stuff on DeeDee. Still needs lots of work and tuning to get it right though (like the hair is not quite right and the star looks like it has one crooked point. But that's all for later [img]http://www.deedeeproductions.nl/images/DeeDee/Smilies/Big Smile.png
Edit: Another preview added. Straightened the star and worked some more on the hair too.
Still loads to do though![/img]

*giggles* DeeDee on a drawing spree!
Been working a bit more on Saira today.
Click of bigger version.
And here's a reminder of what it was at the last update:
Does the dress still look like it's glued on?

the line of shadow definately works for me Dee, gives some depth to show the dress is 'over' the skin... though nothing wrong with painted on dresses imo... erm, anyway...
I think what people might have been pointing out was the line of the dress from her stomach to neck. The strap around her neck is supportting the dress and so the line would be more taut i think. In some styles this wouldn't matter as you'd just paint a very stylistic and unreal picture, but this piece you're doing is very realistic and so i think needs to conform to realistic physics... erm, that's a compliment in there somewhere, hehe
Good work Deedee, i really like watching your art journey

Aaah thát line! Thank for clearing that out! I see your point... hmm, I'll see what I can do about that.
@Neko: Ofcourse you do! *giggles*

Well.. basically... you just gotta keep in mind that there is nothing lighter than white... and nothing darker than black... so you have to go work with shades of grey in the rest of the colouring
But yeah... quite tricky indeed! *nods*
