Holophonics
It would be nice, but the main problem is that, as they say, the way it's done is by ensuring the sounds arrive at your different ears at a slightly different times, and for that to work in games the game would have to calculate that difference for every different sound made in the game, when that sound is made.
Not impossible but it would up a lot processing power that could be used for shiny graphics... I mean... er... gameplay!
Main Hero: Mazey - level 50 + 1 fire/fire/fire blaster.
Main Villain: Chained Bot - level 50 + 1 Robot/FF Mastermind.
BattleEngine - "And the prize for the most level headed response ever goes to Mazey"
Thank you for posting those, I needed a new haircut.
Pity that the effort of putting that in game would outweigh the benifit, would be very cool. One day!
Is this different from 3d sound?
My MA IDs:
Fiend Space: 211464
5.1 or better does this anyway doesn't it?
I mean on my old fashioned 5.1 speakers and old audigy I get what you describe anyway. Admittedly it'd be nice to get it when I need to use a headset too...

The Virtual Barbershop sound file Ive had on various phones for a while. It never fails to bring a smile to a new listeners face.
What I really want is this (or 5.1) type of sound effect with just two speakers as I dont want a load of speakers dotted around the room just for the computer. One day theyll get virtual sound fields working properly, but then Ill be playing CoH on a holo-display so the visuals will be blowing me away.
TBH I switch the CoH sounds off nowadays anyway as I'm sick to death of that awful background hum, or the music that is pumped out for odd reasons and isn't affected by the music slider...
In fact I'd prefer a complete audio overhaul to a complete graphics one.

GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

The only time music ever bugs me is when I end up with two songs playing at once. Some of the areas in CoV have very long one-off tunes, which then overlap when you enter new areas, such as Pocket D for example. Otherwise, I find the music quite acceptable.
Characters:
The Heroic Mary Grace (50)
The Mystical Thunderspark (50)
The Candy-loving Little Jenny (50)
I'm sure most people have heard of this already but I listened to some holophonic sounds tonight and was completely blown away.
you can listen to some here
and there is plenty of nifty videos on youtube like this one which is a personal favourite.
Catch is ,you have to have headphones for it to work, so plug them in and enjoy! boy is it awesome. can you imagine this in games? to listen to a bullet fly past your head, to hear someone creeping up behind you as if they actually are there.
As you can probably tell I'm having a nerd trip, but this stuff rocks. Would be awesome to see it in CoH but I doubt it's even possible to use in games, or at least very expensive.
Now i have finished my nerd rant I'll walk away quietly
The above is only my opinion, please don't hate me for it
