Hey all, TonyV here with news from the Paragon Wiki.

------------------------------------------------------------
Short version for those who want to get back to playing the game:

We're moving! You can access the new site at the following url: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki. We're working on getting the paragonwiki.com domain name back, so hopefully in the not-too-distant future, the URL will be even easier to remember.

Now, the longer version...

------------------------------------------------------------
The Paragon Wiki joins the Titan Network

You might have noticed that URL is a subdomain of the Titan Network. That's right, we have joined the group that has brought you such #1 hits as City Info Tracker (aka City Info Terminal and City Game Tracker), Red Tomax's Guide to City of Heroes, SuckerPunch's online and Mid's offline CoH Build Planners, and of course, CoH Faces.

The same Titan Key that logs you into all of the other sites also logs you into the Paragon Wiki, and vice versa. That's right, one key to rule them all! If you haven't already, get on over to register your Titan Key for registered access to all Titan Network sites.

We're hoping to integrate the sites even more tightly in the future, so keep an eye out for announcements!

Note that as a consequence, any old login names/passwords you had before the Paragon Wiki moved to Wikia and any you created at Wikia will not work to log in to the Paragon Wiki at its new location. If you already have a Titan Key username and password, it will work to log in to the wiki. Simply go to the login page type it in, and presto!

------------------------------------------------------------
But Wikia's site is still there!

Yes, it is. Because all the content is licensed under the GFDL, Wikia is well within their right to continue hosting the content, as long as it maintains the original attribution, which it does via the article history.

The administrators of the Paragon Wiki have talked long and hard about this. "Forking" the wiki is obviously a less-than-ideal solution, but the simple fact of the matter is that we have absolutely no authority to ask Wikia to take down their site, and even if we did, we wouldn't.

The content is there for everyone to use, even you, if you're so inclined to set up your own City of Heroes wiki site. (Although, of course, we would prefer you simply use ours. ) We will not be updating Wikia's copy of the wiki going forward, though.

------------------------------------------------------------
So why are you moving? Isn't this going to be confusing?

There are two main reasons we're moving. First, although Wikia has added some nifty navigational features, there is no opportunity for doing things like integrating the site with the Titan Network. Sure, there is integration with other wiki communities, but we'd rather have the site integrated with the City of Heroes community. Second, we've received complaints about the ads at Wikia. We've heard, we've tried hard to resolve the issues, but we've come to an impasse in discussions on alleviating the problem.

We know that there will initially be some confusion with two wikis out there. Hopefully within a few weeks, everyone will be using the correct URLs to link to the Paragon Wiki, bookmarks to Wikia will be changed (if desired), and getting to the right place will be relatively simple. To help, I'd like to invite site administrators for other community sites to take a few minutes and update their links. Again, we're working on getting the paragonwiki.com domain names back, but wiki.cohtitan.com will continue working in any event.

------------------------------------------------------------µ
What about the cost of running the wiki?

One of the reasons we moved the wiki to Wikia to begin with was the cost of hosting the wiki. So what's different now? Well, a few things.

Time marches on, especially in technology. We are now able to get more web hosting resources for less money, and as a result, it costs less to host the wiki today than it did a year ago when we moved.

Also, the Paragon Wiki is going to do something it hasn't done before, work off a donation model. You can find more details on the Site Support page. If you don't want to donate to keep the site running, don't; we'll cover the cost of running it. If you do, we'll add you to the list of Benefactors unless you request the donation to remain anonymous.

We might consider other alternatives, such as some kind of sponsorship program or something, but for now, we'll do all we can to make sure that the site stays clean and annoyance-free. We can guarantee that there will never be any annoying flash-based ads and that there will never be any advertising injected into the content of the articles.

------------------------------------------------------------
So in summary, how is this a good move again?
<ul type="square">[*]The site is integrated with the Titan Network; your user id and password will work across all Titan Network sites, and we are working on other ways to integrate the sites.[*]All of the current administrators of the Paragon Wiki are moving to the new site. We will all be working hard to continue building the best community resource on the Internet.[*]There is no advertising on the new site.[*]The new site will once again be owned, hosted, and run exclusively by members of the City of Heroes community. After trying it both ways, we feel strongly that this is the only viable option for the Paragon Wiki.[*]There are a few more reasons, nifty things we're working on that we'll be telling you about Soon™. Stay tuned![/list]------------------------------------------------------------
Hey, I'm trying the new address, but I'm having a problem getting to it.

This is kind of a "I don't think this question will come up, but just in case..." question.

We've worked hard on making sure the new site is stable and able to serve up pages in a reliable and efficient manner. However, please keep in mind that it is fresh off the grill, and as such, we might need to tweak the recipe a little to get the taste just right.

If you have any problems with the wiki, please post a message over at the Paragon Wiki forums, or post a reply in this thread. The administrators will be monitoring both closely for any problem reports. Also, if there's anything you want to talk about with me personally, my real e-mail address is tonyv@pcfreepress.com and I always welcome messages from the community. (Yes, complimentary and critical messages alike.)

------------------------------------------------------------

So if I want to link to articles, what URL should I use?

You can use URLs in the following format, and they'll continue to work long-term: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Article_title. Here are some examples:
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Issue_13
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Emotes
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/User_talk:TonyV

Like I said above, we're working on getting the Paragon Wiki domain names transferred back. Until we do, links to that domain name will link to Wikia's site, and I recommend against using it yet. (If you do want to link to Wikia's City of Heroes site, use their http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Article_name format, or else your links will likely redirect to the new site in the near future.)

Once we get the domian names back, I'll post a follow-up here and news item on the front page of the wiki, and it will be completely up to you which one you want to use. The wiki.cohtitan.com URL will continue to work.

This one could use a sticky perhaps? At least for the foreseable future?

Good to hear of the move. Last few times I was rather annoyed with commercials that had audio enabled by default; and at times it would play two of them. Even when flipping back and forth pages the same bloody commercial would sound again (even if you'd disable the damn thing).

Anyway, glad glad to hear there will be no more advertisements. I was almost considering not visiting due to it.

Oh yes those audio commercials were very annoying.

and "back" button in Opera now works again as it should. Excellent! (in wikia you had to click it 3 times to get 1 page back for some odd reason.)

Awesome news.....now tell them to add the EU forums to the official links on the side, it's bad enough the US devs ignoring us without the blooming community doing it as well
