Since the new patch yesterday my friend now cant seem to get logged into the game.Hes re-added it to the exceptions in the firewall settings unplugged, replugged everything and still no joy.

He's with Virgin for his internet connection and has phoned them, which was a waste of time, they said it was a game issue!!

Anyone got any suggestions please as he's stumped and having withdrawal symptoms as he cant play!!

He's now tried ping plotter and gets the error message 'address unreachable'

If he's trying to get to a game server, he would get address unreachable. They block pings, IIRC

Virgin finally admited they had a problem after his 4th call and some swearing at them.

I don't know if this is related but I can't log into game either. On the updater screen my virus checker is saying theres a virus so won't let me upload the patch, it says its an unknown NewHeur_PE virus. Should I uninstall then reinstall the game?

Just add CoH to your AV exclusion list. It's a false positive.

And what is my AV exclusion list?

No idea, I don't know what AV (Anti-virus) program you use. They all have somewhere where you can tell them not to check specific files though. That's where you want to add the CoH exe's.

*looks up*

So important, he had to tell you twice.

The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*

I use NOD32. But I canĀ“t find such list

Can't help with finding the list, as I don't use NOD32, but I do know a recent update of that is what is causing the false positive. It DOES have an exclusion list though; you'll just have to look for it.

Using arcane and extensive research techniques[1] I was eventually able to track down this, which looks like it covers the essentials.

[1] I Googled for "nod32 exclusion list"; attached link was 4th from top...

I come from the school of "help someone to help themselves". I told him what to change... Up to him to find where!

A very reasonably strategy - one I wish I could follow more often with the 3rd tier support calls that get passed through to me occasionally.

"OK, you're external IT support for CityCorpXXX and you're trying to set up a new database, right?"
"Good, first we need to open the ODBC Data Source window"
"Haven't used that before (?) - OK, you need Administrative Tools"
"That neither? That's one of the items on Control Panel"
<headslap>
"OK, to open Control Panel you need to go to the Start Menu, bottom left..."

I'd laugh in a less hysterical way if these people weren't earning 2-3 times my money for providing the City with their "expertise".
