there is a very simple solution to this problematic issue, have a global server apart from the current servers and everyone can play in that server, it's then up to you to ether transfer a character or make a new one.
that way, no one has problems with names, and NCsoft doesn't have to merge an older server.

I think this option of a new global server combined with the suggestion in my Holly Hop Drive thread would be amazing and would allow you to jump to that server only. Then as I said if you like it there with the toon after a half dozen or visits or so you could then pay for a permament server transfer.
