Energy/Energy Blaster... need advice :-\

I've had an Energy/Energy Blaster for a very long time now, but stopped playing as him at lvl 39. I have decided to blow the dust off his costume and get him out again to fight crime. The only problem is that his power choices and enhancement slotting are very out of date. I was wondering if any of you would be kind enough to help me out with an up to date Energy/Energy Blaster level by level guide, with power selections and slotting for each level? I'd be so very appreciative if one of you would do that for me.

Depends what you want out of your Eng/Eng, Spiky. Everyone will tell you different things about Eng/Eng and 'must have' powers.

Here are the questions:

Do you want a 'pure range' build? A blapper?

Do you want to spec for damage? Accuracy? Or (not that you'll need to) Knockback?

What Travel Power do you want? Do you want more than one? (I've found Superspeed and Flight on the same toon to be extremely handy)

Are you looking for advice on which sets to slot? Or are you only interested in seeing a build with SOs?

Speaking for myself, my main is an Eng/Eng, specced with what I like to call an 'RP build', meaning that his pool powers fit his concept more than making him insanely perfect for combat. Which didn't prevent me taking Hasten/Superspeed & Hover/Fly, Swift/Health/Stamina and Stealth/Invisibility as my pools.

General slotting advice: Your ranged attack powers simply DO NOT NEED any KB enhancement. My core build is 3xDamage, 2xAccuracy, 1xRechargeReduction in EVERYTHING, which means that with Hasten I have a pretty phenomenal rate of fire, it's accurate (especially with Aim) and it does a lot of damage (especially with BU). Thanks to Stamina (as well as some IOs improving my recovery), I rarely have too much in the way of Endurance problems, unless the crash happens in the middle of a long fight.

That's all I've got for now. I'm sure others will offer their own perspective, and utterly different advice.

Thank you for the advice you've given so far. Now to answer your questions..

I'm after a nice power dealing ranged blaster so I'm not too bothered about the melee style powers (Power Thrust and Total Focus), although they would come in handy once in a while. I'm interested in seeing IO slotting, but SO's would be handy as well because I don't have the cash to shell out on the really expensive IO's just yet.

Excellent! Sounds like you want something a little like my build, then. (Bear in mind that I need a respec to clear out some stuff, because my current build is less than optimal, even considering that it's a concept build, plus I don't have access to all of my build information right this moment).

Primary: Get them all, except Power Push.

Secondary: You've got to have the first one, and I'd strongly suggest keeping Total Focus because it's AWESOME. Otherwise, go for the 'extras'. Build Up, Power Boost, Boost Range. Those are the things that give a ranged Eng the edge: It may take a while to trigger, but Aim+BU+Snipe+Total Focus (Superspeed into melee range) is a fight-winner. The only thing you'll struggle against are bosses, since TF's stun won't get them first time around.

Power Pools: Hasten and Stamina are phenomenal additions to you: Nothing gives you quite the sense of awesome power as Snipe > Total Focus > Power Burst used strictly in rotation against a tanked AV. If you can't use snipe due to taking hits, then Power Bolt and Power Blast fill that gap most of the time.

I won't discuss IO sets, as there are others around who know a lot more than I do about the best options.

What I had on my toon a while back (and still do, but with IO's replacing SO's) is 3xDamage and 2xAccuracy in each attack power. In build up I have 1xTo Hit Buff and 1xRecharge Reduction. Aim, Conserve Power and Power Boost both have 1xRecharge Reduction. I went for the flight travel pool. Hover has 2xDef Buffs and 1xEndurance Reduction (I use Hover a lot when soloing missions), and Fly has 1xFlight Speed and 1x Endurance Reduction. Got swift with 1xRunning Speed, Health 3xHealing, and Stamina 3x Endurance Modification. Also got Stealth with 3xDefense Buffs and 1xEndurance Reduction (Used along with Hover when I'm soloing), and Invisibility with 1xDefense Buff and 2xEndurance Reduction. How does that sound? What Epic powers should I go with? I'd also like advice on a level 50 build with all the expensive IO sets in for when the time comes. Would that be possible? Thanks in advance.

I haven't tried it yet, but it worked on my archer. Slotting one Extreme Measure Dam/Int/Recharge seemed to help with interrupts, though I've since pumped that a little with manticore's which also have int. I give it my rubber stamp of "pretty damn good".

Thanks for you response. I'm really after a full build guild if there's one available at all.

They certainly don't! If you're teamed, it's a good idea to try to knock mobs towards walls or other objects otherwise your ears will be burning from all the names the scrappers are calling you

Personal advice for playing En/: get Hover, Fly, AND Air Superiority. Why?

HOVER: Not only can you escape a lot of melee action, the devs were smart enough to work out that knockback becomes knockdown when applied from the air. So what was an annoyance to the groundlings suddenly becomes a control power.

FLY: Similarly, escaping into the 3rd dimension is useful against many mobs and is plenty fast enough on most maps.

AIR SUP: For anything that DOES follow you. Also hugely useful on it's own on the ground, as it 90% of the time knocks down anything that's attacking you and gives a reasonable DAM output for small END expenditure.

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?
