Anyone know there max file size and which file type you use for animated Avatars?
Cheers

There isn't a fixed max size IFAIK, but mods may ask you to remove anything that is excessive (i.e. Try and keep it sub-500k). Animated avatars will need to be .gifs, unless the world has gone crazy and started adopting .mng at last.

The max dimensions are fixed at 80x80 and it will resize anything larger, but the max filesize isn't fixed - sorry, should have been clearer.

No my mistake wasn't really asking that at first but what you said made me think, Cheers again mate. Anyone know how long an 80*80 giff would be at about 400K?

[/ QUOTE ]Depends a lot on how complicated it is.

Say an animation at 80*80 and 15 fps

You could probably fit anything between 80 to 350 frames in that size, depending on image quality.

If you want to stay within the forum rules it should be 20k or less but the mods seem to allow a lot of slack.

[/ QUOTE ]Last time this came up I believe it was said it's fine as long as they're under one meg.

Which is reasonable, I suppose, 20kb would be far too small, although 1 meg still leavels room for improvement.

I agree that 20k is not much in this age of broadband but that's what the forum Rules and Guidelines state. Personally I feel 1mb or more for a 80x80 avatar is excessive and 100-200k would be more reasonable but it's irrelevant really since I have forum avatars turned off.

[/ QUOTE ]311 frames at 937 kb. But that's with pretty much the highest image quality for .gifs.

And yes, I did.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm aware of the rules, yes. But in this case the word of the moderators conflicts with them, so I'll rather go with the mod guidelines.
