Ice armor / fire melee build discussion

I am very happy with my build - currently level 40 and teaming regularly with a spines/regen scrapper and a trick arrow defender which as far as I am concerned is perfect for herding/aoe goodness.

Apart from the global defense buff from steadfast unique, I am not sure how to slot IO sets. Everything I try on the hero planner ends up making my powers less effective, and any defense buffs I can get from sets seem to be positional defense instead of typed defense which is what Ice uses so can't see a good way to boost my defense through sets, especially because when using sets, the power often ends up LESS effective than it was when using purely IO's

This is a pve, aoe heavy build. Any advice on sets gratefully received.

Improved it a bit without lowering enhancement persentages anywhere more than one or two % (except in the case of endmod in EA, which dropped 10% to make way for more def, which is more important IMO), and without altering slot numbers. Not much else I can do without reducing some stats, changing slot numbers, or using purple sets.

Those IO set enchancements are pretty achieveable on my limited budget so thanks for that.

If you feel like it, feel free to make a dream build. I doubt I will ever be able to afford purple sets but it would be cool to see what you could achieve with your ideal slotting, regardless of whether or not individual powers end up being a bit less effective.

You could of asked me ingame to give you a build suggestion!



3rd end mod in stamina into taunt, 3rd rechg in hibernate to taunt. So you 6 slot taunt. IO it but don't IO set it. 36% def is enough with one in melee with my flash arrow.

I really don't see the point in putting anything other than durations and damage procs in Taunt, (so 3 slots) it's perfectly adequite, and spamming taunt hurts your damage, which hurts you ability to hold aggro. If you are going to put a lot of slots into Taunt, both Zinger and Mocking Beratement have set bonuses worth having, especially MB, with bonuses to S/L/F/C def as well as recharge.

I would slot up taunt durations in CE, and you should be aware that in the current test build you can't slot taunt sets in CE, so you can't slot a Zinger there. You can slot procs from the slow sets though.

I would consider Hover, as it's psi def stacks with Steadfast protection, giving you your best shot against psi damage foes - Whisps will eat you for breakfast otherwise. It helps against fire too, and you can slot it with LoG or Kismet globals.

You may also need to think about what will happen if you exemplar to low level. Taunt isn't much cop at level 12, you would be better with another attack, Gauntlet doesn't work on VRs, and you don't want to be stuck without a travel power below level 30.

I currently have a psi proc in chilling embrace so when the patch goes live will it just stop working? Or will you just no longer be able to ADD a proc to taunt auras?

Shannon - I was just bored at work and was wondering about sets so thought I'd see what people thought on forums.

and PRAF - I have no problems holding aggro between chilling embrace, combustion and energy absorption and taunt. Also, I prefer a recharge and range in taunt..... and even if I did exemp, I still won't be doing much single target attacking so don't need or want any more single target attacks

The taunt durations are for when you use Hibernate. I find I get enough recharge from set bonuses that I don't need any of those in Taunt or Hibernate.
