These are great, love the style.
For flames the only thing I can think of is the spikey, cardboard cut-out effect they use on South Park. If you search for South Park Fire on Google Image Search the first result has a guy with flaming orange hair which might help.

Looks great. One small thing I would adjust: the thumb should be a bit closer to index finger. If you try and open your hand like that, you'll notice the maximum angle between thumb and index finger will be 90% (a bit more for those who have really flexible hands).

thanks for the comments... I think that the arms are my weakest at the moment as I cant quite work out how to get hands and arms posed properly but I will try what you suggest and see if I can get than hand looking more realisticly posed

I wanted to make it a bit more flame-y but at the moment flames escape me! Gonna carry on working on it as not quite happy with the arms yet... but I love the eyes
