Concept Character Help
When I think "Journalist", I think 'natural' powers.
So, I tend to see ma/sr scrapper and AR/dev (either rifle or bow).
Coming from that, is the 'war journalist' where he picked up some useful bits and bobs (or rather, skills). So, then I start thinking of a Assault Riffle/traps Corrupter who decides to document the urban wild life of the infamous Rogue Islands.
For me, who is incapable of doing an evil villain for long, this means a 'neutral' alignment: he's there to show the world how bad it is (to help), but isn't afraid to do what it takes to survive and document things... like the internal struggle he might feel when he has to do something to survive.

he. First thing I would think of for a journalist is a mind controller. Especially if it's a popular one.
The best solo at is imho mastermind. Plus they're the least "super-" type on their own. Thus a thugs mastermind is always an option for something like that.
The mind controller/dominator would work well depending on the type of story he is after.
The other option that goes for most jobs is the dark/dark (scrapper or defender) who sold his soul for success and is now trying to get it back as thr devil is comming to claim his prize.
Or the dark/dark defener could work as someone who infiltrated the CoT for a story and got too deep. Too deep meaning in this case so deep that he gained powers but not so deep as to well... you know what CoTs do to people
You could do a green invul/super strength/stone tanker who got his power after trying to write a story about a drug cartel, had his cover blown and was given an overdose of some experimental superadine.
Or sticking to the failed infiltration for a story theme, give some psionic powers and the story could have been on the lost/rikti.
and any mutation really could be justified by investigating crey's illegal dumping of radioactive and worse waste in crey's folly
A mind/forcefields controller is obviously the best.
A natural one, too.
The charisma of a reporter (how the hell do they get some of these shots?) and the Shield of the Press...

It's all up to you. Clark Kent had heat vision, ice breath, super strength, could fly, and he was a reporter. Spider-Man had spider-powers. Also a reporter.
There's no powers that would "suit" a reporter. My suggestion would be either an MA/SR scrapper, a broadsword/katana/SR scrapper, an archery Defender or a bow/traps blaster. Alternatively you could have a tech-whatever, and say he uses a suit to fight crime. Still keeps him as normal and reporter-ish as possible, but he still has a secret identity to keep.
Okay, end statement. Good luck with this. It's always cool to see a paparazzi laying the beat on crooks.

Well if you go with Katana or dual blades, you can make an awful lot of "Sometimes the sword is mightier than the pen" jokes if you're going to be a camp journo.
Aside from that, a stalker would seem the natural choice since a journalist's job is to report a story rather than be the story, so the ability to move around without interfering should come naturally. You can use non-light-show combos such as MA/SR. If he happens to occasionally drop an assassin's blow on the back of some perp's neck to make the story more of a headline grabber then so be it. You can then justify the frequent attacks by any mobs that see him as being retaliation for interfering with their plans in the past in order to get a good story out of it.
it depends which way you want to go.. Should he have a supernatural power? Or does he use his natural skills..?
Natural will mean almost directly going for either Assault Rifle, Thug Mastermind, Archer, Martial Arts combined with Super Reflexes for instance. Personally I would go for the journalist / ex-sportman / ex-marine / war-journalist and just make him a natural good fighter. That could bring you up on a natural martial arts / super reflexess scrapper. And keep the note emote and camera emote close. Travel powers for a non-powered guy would be harder. Fitness used to up jump and speed can be enough. If not... think of combat jump at least. super reflexes combined with combat jump is a good idea... maybe add leadership as of concept too. and the fighting pool to go for weave later. Still natural and almost unhittable toon. Concealment stealth can be the 4th pool power. Weapon mastery the epic.
If youre into giving him a super power, I think going for something a journalist could get afflicted with would be the smartest move. Radiation is easy to get something off for a war-journalist. Origin would then ecome science. You could also make him natural and at the same time mystica. Origin magic and abilities that reflect an begiining mage. Having learned the use of spells instead of inherit powers. A bit like Constantine of Hellblazer maybe.
Just a few idea's you can work with. Think of an AT you like, then the most fitting powers to with that. But already have a beginning of an biography so you know which way to head.

Ok thanks for all the imput guys been alot of help and i have finally know what i want. Ok so it's some down to only two options; Mind / Empathy or Mind / Force Field. The character is of Mutant Origin and is male, i have my background/description and of coruse my name.
Now i have really enjoyed the early levels of playing Mind / Empathy as it allows me to use a utility of control and have alot of support as well as healing myself. Keeps me always active and helps me get into teams quicker which is a nice but sad bonus :P. Problem is that it is mainly green and doesnt synergise with the white/colourless effects of Mind. It lacks any really strong ties with being a reporter apart from being able to help in certain dramatic situations (On scene support which i like).
However a Mind / Force Field allows for good synergy with both effects, theme and concept. Sometimes can seem a little boring but will allow me to concentrate on my Mind Primary which is what i want. Problem is i already have experienced all of Force Field with both a Deff & MM, on the other hand it will be alot different with an active (pet-less) Controller!
Could use some advice or what you think would be best fitting, even what you would personally pick :P
*Note* I do not wish to prioritise either teaming or pvp, this is purely concept.
Hmm seeing as it probably takes alot of willpower to be a reporter, maybe as someone suggested a MA but willpower Stalker? Or even a Ma/Will scrapper as you could take stealth and invis as you don't need stamina.
Or a willpower/Warmace Tank with a baseball bat!
If you're solid on your two troller concepts, It'd depend on what role in a team you want really.
However, if you're planning on having a psychic reporter (And not a charismatic guy with shields of the press :P) I'd go for Mind/FF, because the FF can be ICly represented as telekinesis. Also a good FF Controller/Defender can keep his team from (mostly) needing heals in the first place, which is brill
It's down to you though. I reckon a Mind/FF cont would be more believable in an IC sense though.

Ok im not too sure if i am to put this on the roleplaying section of the forums but its the closest it comes to a concept character, isnt it?
Anyway i have played the game for a long time now and i have done the whole 50 and quickest to 50 and yadadadada however. . . i must confess that i am yet again getting bored of the same old routine of playing CoX! So i have decided to make a character that will include aspects of my real life and of course my fantasy. . . *waits for a sexual remark* no im not wanting to make a female character with more skin showing than a modern art gallery. . . i want to include my interest/hopeful career of becoming a journalist! *waits for hateful remark*. . . *does not care*. Anyway with that all said and done i also want the character to be limited, now by this i mean that i want to try and have a distinguished power/ability (whatever you would like to call it) not something like a double ability (Fire Blast and Electric Manipulation).
Ok with that all said and done i want to be able to solo as i tend to like my own company if i am playing a themed character, so the AT of choice needs to have the flexibility of being able to solo but to remain to the concept of just one power. . . E.g like a Mind/Psi Dom, it basicly has just one ability (Psychic Powers).
So. . . anyone got any help to aid my little dilema? Let me bullet point it so its more direct if you are to help.
