Kin or rad without using secondary?

hi all.I was thinking of a new melee toon but I just love the defender primaries so much and I think it would be a sin if I didn't build a defender toon (rad and especially kin I just love especially kin's concept).

Since I don't want to have ranged attacks though(don't get me wrong;I have no problem to stay back sometimes in teams, I just don't like the concept of a ranged attacker) I was thinking of investing only in primary and pool powers, using only pool powers to attack when solo(when in teams, with so much primary investing I will inevitably shine)

Like, If I go kin/archery(for the "no ranged superpowers" concept) and only take the 1st-lvl obligatory archery power and never use it, attacking through boxing/air superiority and total focus later,maybe one secondary late-lvl AoE for the flashy of it, will it be feasable?

and what secondary/primary(with rad or kin by preference) would better work with this concept?

I honestly don't think it can be done because pool attacks are weak, very weak. If you want to try this, probably a better idea (still not good imho) doing it with a troller, if you hold your foes first, containment will increase the dmg of your pool attacks.
Bear in mind that the melee attacks available are Air Superiority, Flurry, Jump Kick, Boxing and Kick, that makes 4 pools for all of them so no room for fitness pool then you may need to do it with kinetics for endurance and damage boost. Also maybe elec as a secondary for that bit of end transfer would be advisable (if a defender, ofc).
Still, not such a good idea imho.

Secondry, for your concept, I would advise to go for Elec or Rad, because they both have melee based attack. I would lean towards rad, as alot of the attacks look like they could be done in melee (like neutrino bolt, looks like a punch, seems like a melee attack at a short range) and also it has two point blank attacks, irradiate and atomic blast (the nuke).

As for primary, they are both kinda equal. Rad will give you (and your team) alot more survivability, making you meleeing easier. It also has an AoE hold, a melee toggle, and a handy, easy-to-use heal. Kinetics, on the other hand, is a set that doesn't promote meleeing as such, in that it makes it easier, but instead it requires melee for full effect. Transfusion is an enemy based heal, transference tops-up end from melee, and fulcrum gives you the best buff when you are surrounded by enemies.

So, rad/rad for a nice full concept, or kin/rad if rad primary doesn't appeal.

Problem is, I wouldn't like my character to have superpowers that are not buffs/debuffs. I want him to have a "joe regular" feel only with buffs. The basic idea is to create a character whose only power is to manipulate flesh in cellular level, thus buffing himself and teammates. All or most attacks must be non-supernatural, or melee(=buffed str one could say). He could have a rage-like effect AoE tier 9 though... Let's judge an attack chain: Air Superiority + Irradiate + Total Focus* + Air Superiority(recharged with hasten). Would this work Damage-wise?

I will suggest that you keep your 2 great idears seperate and make a new melee toon and also make a defender. but if you are going to combine it i think Rad with the debuff trio is the one that can keep you alive. But be prepared you are gonna run that attack chain lots of lots times with every minion.
But if you make him on union i will gladly help.

I'd sugggest elec epic as you get the melee attack at 41 then. My Rad only uses two Rad attacks and that while debuffing anyway (cosmic burst short range blast and Iradiate PBAoE which I use as a debuff)
