Empathy - Defender Epics?

I've made a "pure" support Empathy Defender. (His only attacks are the first rad blast and the PBAoE Def debuff).

I've decided to take PSI. The Sleep sounds like a good "team run away" power, the shield should help with the large amounts of Rikti in the end game now and TK sounds...well a bit awesome.

BUT

I'd like to get some opinions first....

If you're a mainly or "Pure" support defender, then the usual cookie-cutter choice is Force Mastery for Power Build Up. As an empath, it'd roughly double your healing numbers and the +def/tohit granted by Fortitude.

Psionic has TK which can be useful against a pack of minions in PvE if you can keep your endurance up (it's more widely used as an annoyance power in PvP really). I wouldn't really rate the sleep as highly in teams though since any AoE will wake them up, and if you're "pure" support you won't be soloing much.

Dark's Oppressive Gloom can be useful, it negates all minions around you. The Endurance recovery power won't be great since it's on a long timer and you have RA anyway. Soul Drain is pointless with no attacks.

Elec's shield is the best of the bunch, and Power Sink means you'll never ever run out of endurance again. The ST immobilise can be used to good effect to keep AVs standing still (VERY useful vs Ghost Widow!).

For me I'd pick Force, purely for Power Build Up. None of them are particularly bad choices though, but I'd say that the Dark Epic has the least to offer an Empath.

I didn't realise it was cookie-cutter at the time, but power build up is the only ancillary power I've ever considered/taken for my Empath, so I agree with Maelwys too.

I have done Psy mastery and Power mastery.

Concept wins really and that is for me Psy mastery

Power Build up is really good tho, RAs are lovely, heals are better but! I find them overkill, more than necessary amongst 'some' decent players.

However!! For those who didnt, in a way, 6 SO slot RAs etc in order to slot their attacks kinda rightly ie for soloing, then Power Mastery makes up for those missing slots in a way. But if you have 6 SO slotted almost everything in the empath set then to me, from experience, it is overkill, when teaming amongst 'some' good players anyway.

In short, the game content can be done, just as well, no matter what the epic, amongst some players.

For a very limited time though!, I've had power-boost on test for some time now as part of an old experimental respec and was extremely disappointed with the difference powerboost made to my build.

I disagree, Telekinesis is one of the most powerful and useful powers in the game providing you have the juice to keep it running, definately take stamina to power it and you won't regret it. With it's 100% hit-rate Its a main-stay and key part of my Offensive and Defensive strategy in Recluses Victory, with it I can push an enemy clean across half the map or pin them in place for over a minute with the epic in question.
Tk is most definately your friend.

...but if your team understands that and works around the strategies Psi epics like Mass Hypnosis offers it can give you (as one team-member commented the other night) "a massive advantage" - if you run into a crowd to take out the key antagonists and the others are fast asleep and cannot aid them.

within that time u can make 1 player pretty much immortal with uber fort and the whole team pretty much unkillable with uber regen aura

I have to admit that is good, alternatively Psi's Telekinesis enables you to pin a whole mob incapacitated into a corner where they are just 'fish in a barrel' to shoot at or kick the cr*p out of.
You don't need unkillable regen in that instance when they can't even land a single blow.

Both have their pros and cons I imagine.

Personally I find the endurance draining abilities of Electrity Mastery quite enticing. Of course, im somewhat biased as my character has electrical blast as her main attack power, but despite that there are several abilities which would greatly benefit an empath defender.

Electric Fence: Offers empaths a useful immobilization tool and the DoT on it is quite nice. It also drains a foe of endurance. Some defender secondaries have immobilize skills, but I'm a sapper and love to leave my opponents weak.

Power Sink: This is the main selling point for me. This is truly powerful in a defenders hands and can leave many opponents (PvP or otherwise) easy targets. Drains lots of endurance from Archvillains too, but they regenerate it VERY quickly and have well over 1000 endurance by my guess (heroes have a normal max of 100, boostable with accolades and temp powers). Useful to restore any lost stamina against such opponents though.

Charged Armour: Every epic choice has a self-defense skill, and electric mastery is no exception. Makes you resistant against energy, smashing and lethal damage. Not as good as some other epic defense skills, but no slouch either.
