Blaster assault/devices needs help

Hello everyone,
I started playing this game in 2005 for about three months, then I took a small break. Unfortunately I relocated during that time and I was unable to get back into the game. I even lost my game (but luckily the serial code was already registered and I didn't need it to reactivate). It was just a bit searching for my login info

At the time I played back then my blaster was build to support Peacekeepers/warshades in the guild, so I was usually sent in first to check the place. Then snipe the offender from a distance. I was almost always in a group, and all they wanted from me was damage.

Now this is the build I think I had (can't check because the server is down), and I need advice on optimizing this build for solo play. I just find that this build doesn't work for solo at all, I constantly feel I'm in deep over my head.

What I do is cloak en superspeed and find a nice spot from where I will snipe one, once they start running towards me I use flamethrower (usually sooner than I like but I'm frozen in place), and while retreating fire of full auto (which at this moment has puny dmg). Then I use slug and burst and whatever else comes up. If there are still live ones (usually there are), I use cantrips or webgrenade (wow it works now), anything to maintain distance. Doesn't always work though and not all mobs are purely melee.

But I'm just explaining this so you know my playstyle - I do try to use common sense. I'm not a tactical genius, but I do try to use the tools I have.

Anyway, here's my current and not very satisfactory build. BTW, I'm only L32.

From L24, I can no longer use the hero builder because it shows me options I was unable to pick 2 years ago. So from Boxing I go straight to Full Auto - and since Full Auto was the last power picked it only has 1 slot, with dmg.

I would suggest, get Aid Self. It is a great life saver. Added, go for munition epic. Hold power and a awsome 2nd snipe (aoe) power. Boxing i asume u focus for tough, i would take Aid other/self instead of boxing/tough.

Webnade->beenbag->ignite = lt. killer. Later with epic hold power it even becomes more fun, i suggest take all these powers. Tripmine is great, detonator is too 'lucky' shot, skill that. Turret is a meatshield, weak but makes its uses once in a while.

I do asume your slotting is open atm, EndRed in calltrops isnt really.. good.

For solo play, I'd recommend the medicine line for aid self. Even if you only use it inbetween mobs it will help a great deal. If you get stimulant first its a nice team power that you won't need to slot.

I use bean bag to shut down any opponents that can mez me, and use burn (just three slotted with damage and nothing else) in combination with web grenade to take down tougher bad guys fast. It gets a lot more fun with full auto and trip mines too. You can take your time with trip mines solo, and it can make harder encounters much more managable. Full auto is great (especially if you pop a red or two first), but can 'lock' you in place while you're firing so you have to be careful with your timing (getting them on caltrops is usually a good idea).

Use corners a lot too, as this will draw ranged opponents onto your caltrops/mines.

just a quick point. any more than 3 enhancment of 1 type in a power is a waste. they give deminishing returns look up info on ED, cant remember off the top of my head what it stands for.

Looks good, although i would still put 1 acc in each power, targeting drone is equal (iirc) to 1 SO acc.

Replace burst 2 defdeb with acc/recharge/range.
Buckshot.. either range or swap with slug.
Sniper, 1 acc, 2 recharge or interupt, range is usefull
Ingite, range for sure.
Flametrower, range again, bigger cone
Full auto, range.. again
Try to push a EndRed in cloacking

And where is beanbag?
Cryo Freeze, 2xacc/2xrech/2xhold is way to go.

KBdist is not that great, as long they KB is good enough. So then replacing by range would be more usefull together with a acc and recharge here and there.

ED stands for iirc Enhancement Differisation. Once you hit 85ish% buff (cat.A) or 55% (cat.B) the next enhancements of that kind will only give a very minor buff (1-2%). Going 3 with lvl50 IO is already way over cap, lvl53 IO can even nearly hit cap by just 2.

Burst and slug don't really need the range mods, you have snipe for pulling. I'll just mention though that I actually dropped snipe from my build and put 2 range mods in slug (same range as snipe but with no interrupt) and added M30 for more AoE goodness.

I use tazer for unfriendlies that get too close - good chance to stun - beanbag prolly just as good.

Tactics note: Always drop caltrops in front or around you before pulling. Helps keep the bad guys away while you 'arrest' them.

Actually that's a very good idea. I always found it incredibly annoying that I can be interrupted. I also found out that the damage output is far less than I am used to. Granted, one shot kills might have been a bit too much - but that's why I had so much dmg invested in it. Now that things have changed I need to adjust and relearn my chosen class.

I'm going to try without snipe, and put some range in slug, also the M30 looks good. Don't think I've tried that one before. NOw is as good a time as any .

Id get body armour last and only have it one slotted unless your going to add special IOs because the resistance is so low.

Combat jump Id jump higher with, you dont have enough defence to get any major defence out of it and targetting drone Id change the rechg for an endred. I dont slot health, as I never had to rely on regen really and you have aid self anyway, you could have good defiance moments with less regen and aid self when ready, ofc if pvp then maybe keep the regen but take a different epic entirely. Cloaking device is just an endred for me, again not enough defence to buff anyway just like combat jump.

All in all alot of slots from CJ,Body Armour and Health pretty much get freed up for my offense and controls. I rely on active defense, if its slept, held, disorientated or defeated then I am not getting hit and if it is enough to drop me then the regen in health and the total defense and resistance that you have wouldnt of saved me anyway (keep aid self though). Caltrops is a good time buy toy, i do slot that, its not just me I could be buying time for, it could be someone else.

When it comes to Range in cone attacks, i could look at a group in one direction and it can be a wide looking group or I could look at the group in another direction and find it a thinner group to easily fit them in my cone range. I just move to a place where I squeeze in the most targets. Where you have range I might either have an end slot or a recharge instead and use the attacks more often to an end bar hitting the same amount of targets as I would with range slots.

Life without kb and hold protection wouldnt go on, I simply couldnt go thru the game being knocked about.

Body armor can easily switched so that I can have more slots in LRM Rocket.

Shannon, good call on defiance mode! I completely forgot about that. So I'll check out the health part too.

yeah, active defense is something I'm slowly getting used to. I already did a part respec (I'm L32), and the difference is simply unbelievable. Definately need a rech on tripmines, but they absolutely rock.

As for caltrops, they're almost an automatism - every mob I take on I drop caltrops. Makes life so much easier.

I was wondering about Superspeed though. If that still helps with not being detected. I might change things around so I can pick that up again too. (I had it before, but dropped it to get the medicine power tools)
