Help me decide on my PvP base AT
Anything /regen is awesome. You need to decide what kind of play style you want though. Stalkers tend to only hit and run. Now I know they can do more than that, and the good ones do, but generally stalkers tend to be a hit and run build. What I think your looking for is a scrapper.
Broad Sword is very good for damage but has slow recharge.
Martial Arts has good damage and good stuns.
Spines has fair damage but also slows and reduces regen.
I really suggest you go with /regen. It seems like it will fit you best from what you have said. Super Reflexes kinda sucks in PvP unless you can get perma Elude. Anything with Build Up or AIM, can easily get through an SR's defences. Regen has very good survivability. A good heal, dull pain and instant healing, make killing and /regen EXTREMELY hard, unless you have something like a rad/psi or rad/sonic defender, even then its not 'easy'. Now Im sure other people will say other things can kill a regen just as quick, but from my experience in zones, /regens always seem to be left standing.
The other thing you might want to look at is an ice/em tank. very good defence and good damage with stuns from the melee attacks.
Hope I've helped
if u want a melee toon go fire/em tank or em/fire brute
go with the bs/regen they're fun and cool
You didnt say were you going for arena or zone pvp?

Greetings all... I am new to the game and seek to start a character which is based around being competitive in PvP.
My chosen options are: BS/Regen Scrapper, BS/SR Scraper, Fire/Fire Brute, Ice/Cold Corruptor, NB/Regen Stalker, NB/SR Stalker.
[/ QUOTE ]
Out of those, SR scrapper isnt durable nor otherwise effective in generic PVP so you can write it off. That is, unless youre making it a toon against specific opponents.
BS/regen is possibly the most versatile and durable of the toons listed, and is definitely good in most PVP situatios you will encounter. however, you may find that skilled pvp-players remain beyond your ability to kill. Regens (and scrappers in general) may have to settle for draws (with regen you have the ability to survive most 1v1 encounters, with enough skill. The problem is scrappers ability to deal damage against the debuffers etc) Regen is also easiest to play and learn, but you can never go autopilot in pvp situation.
Fire/fire brute, well tbh I dont have much experience of it, but /fire is similar to regen in that it can be very difficult to kill. Scrapper will however deal more damage out of the box than brute because Brute has to rely on fury to get damage up.
As a stalker its different, but personally Id pick ninjitsu over SR, I have one lvl 47 ninja stalker myself. Ninjitsu gets an extremely useful selfheal that will improve survivability a lot. In other respects it is roughly equal to SR stalker, as long as you address the knockback issue with acrobatics.
No stalker secondary compares in survivability to brute/Scrapper with the exception of regen. Stalkers best asset is however ability to pick the time (and in zones, place) of attack. Several melee toons will still be beyond your ability to kill. Masterminds as well.
Ninja blade isnt very damaging. Relying on +def strike that NB has is not a very effective in PVP against good opponents. EM is pretty much the only of the stalker primaries with the ability to effectively kill players without using assassin strike.
Ice/cold corruptor fulfills the requirements of being extremely effective in 1v1, and possibly even more so in team pvp. But you may find that it doesnt do as much burst damage as youd wish, except against squishies. It WILL own most toons in 1v1 though. Ice/cold corrupter is a type of toon with which you have a chance of beating more skilled players than yourself, depending on their characters.

What I seek is a character that is extremely good in 1 on 1 situations, is moderately durable (would it be pure mitigation or all kinds of EFFECTIVE tricks like hold/slow/hide), and most importantly capable of pulling out a "omgwtfbbq" burst damage attack chains on regular basis (not something once in a blue moon when stars allign)

If youd want an honest opinion, even at the risk of seeing MORE of these annoying inhuman abominations at arena I give you:
Radiation/sonic/power defender.
It fulfills all the requirements listed above except maybe durability in open enviroment. That can be handled with a bit of skill though. It doesnt have much trouble in 1v1 against most kinds of opponents, although due to the nature of this games theres always some countermeasure.
It will definitely OMGWTFBBQ an average player, and majority of the good pvpers as well in 1v1 combat, especially at confined quarters like arena 1v1. It is also fast and easy to lvl while not a grinding machine, and functions well in team. My own was herding oranges at level 4. It also has an added bonus most melees dont have: its good against masterminds. However, its abilities quickly drop the more players you have against you. In 1v1 it is fearsome opponent.
For showcasing rad/sonic, try PM Stalk-obot. His lvl 50 defender Cryka is a great example of the concept (and also filled with goodies since its copied from US). My own rad/sonic is lvl 43-44 iirc. And there are more Im sure, these two are only ones I remember though.
You may hear that Rad/psi are better, but personally I believe its a matter of point of view. rad/sonic is definitely more fun to play in the early game and can crank up more burst damage, where as psi is harder to defend against and does great -recharge. Rad/sonic/powers build is pretty much set in stone, so you wont have much trouble getting a good build, you will get two free power slots of your choice even.
ps. You may find that generally people dont want to duel against you in arena if you tell them youre rad/sonic
Rad/Sonic is not for a new player and new to PvP imho. I would suggest a BS/Regen like Psydock said.

Unfortunately I agree, BS/regen is most suitable of the toons listed.
sigh...why does it always has to be regen? Its like theres an assembly line for regen scrappers in atlas >_<

Aint that the truth lol
Regen is a great PvP toon too start with & move onto squishies as you get more experienced and have a greater understanding of the game and pvp mechanics.
thePhilosopher Martial Arts/Regen/Fire Scrapper
theRegulator Empathy/Energy/Soul Defender
Total Inertia Ice Blast/Kinetics/Psy Corruptor
Total Inferno Ice Blast/Thermal/Leviathan Corruptor
Well, I think I'll go BS/Regen scrapper in the end as it suits my vision of a durable, unconditionally good (no need to hide or wait for fury to do evil things) character with ability to perform teh "omgwtfbbq" chains on regular basis.
As much as rad/sonic defender sounds like a totally mean package, I just don't really like overdependencies on buff/debuff/mez/questionable techniques. I prefer a more conservative approach - take some piece of iron and smash it into someone's face for a great direct effect.

Well it is a known graphical issue in the character secondary selection screen for scrappers:
I got a screenshot here - it looks like this:
invulnerability
super reflexes
[u]--->>> REGENERATION <<<--- (TAKE THIS, NAB!)[u]
dark armor

Regen is indeed unconditionally good, all you have to do is know how to make the build, own three fingers and have buttonbinds for reconstruction, dull pain and instant healing.
And BS is imo one of the best primary options. A critted headsplitter is.. well .. just like the name suggests. You can surprise lot of people with the damage.
Like others said, BS/regen will be great introductory toon to PVP, learn to punch the heals on reflex and youll be fine. Learn the movement too, never trust solely on your durability.
Debuffs are extremely strong in PVP when they come in a tight package.
If you're rolling a BS/Regen, you have to learn one thing before you can start PvP:ing.
It's not cheating when they don't stay next to you so you can hit them.
A BS scrapper provokes a reaction best described as "omgwtfbbq" in a squishy, making them want to stay at distance and hit you with ranged attacks, mezes and debuffs.
When that happens, remember that they're not cheating.
That being said, I pretty much agree with everyone else here on the fact that BS/Regen is a good toon to start PvP - it has pretty good survivability against most things and allows you to score stray kill here and there even without any actual skill. And even more kills when you get better at it

oh yeah:
1. moving around to avoid attacks is not cheating
2. use of inspirations is not cheating
3. use of temporary powers is not cheating
4. standing still for whatever reason in the pvp zones = bad idea, unless you are inside hospital or dead. Think about getting double-assassin striked.
5. In pvp zones, anything goes. Duels are for arena.

anybody who has a go at u for doing any of the above in a pvp zone should become ur ganking target for the next 30 mins

So I need an experienced suggestion here - what to take?
So far I lean the most towards BS/Regen Scrapper and NB/SR Stalker. I need an experienced advice - I can't decide on a character for about a week already.
Also I am open to other suggestions - it simply I prefer either Scrapper, Brute, Corruptor or Stalker.
Note: I don't want a "Moment of Glory" builds (not skill) - meaning things like EM/x Stalker gankers or anything else of that type which is an all or nothing builds. I want something rounded up well that acts good most of the time...
Thanks!
