I am a sort of new player in CoX and I really like blaster idea of offensive ranged attacker with respectable damage output... problem is - I absolutely despise heroes and heroic deeds, while feel attracted to the dark side, but a bummer - no real blaster equivalent on the red side, so I'll have to improvise.
The two obvious options for me are Dominator and Corruptor - and both are seemingly an underdogs in damage department.
Corruptor has 75% ranged damage mod and attack set as primary, while can buff himself and debuff targets via seconary. Looks not bad as I understand that by using buffs and debuffs he can levitate his damage to respectable levels. However I can't shake this feeling that Corruptors are more of a buffer than attackers, which make me go eww!!
Dominator, on other hand, seems to be less of a damage dealer on a first glance with his 65% ranged mod and some half-[censored] secondary assault sets, but domination seems to be HUGE damage-wise that puts dominator base damage over blaster when active (at least logic says that 65% + 75% of that = 113% damage mod... better than blaster) and there are means to make perma-Dom (expensive, but if it is my main - I will do it eventually) and Fiery Embrace seems quite uber too with ~80% damage buff to fire for whole 30 secs. So I sense some blaster damage potential here.
Now the question is - can Dominator beat Corruptor on damage done at least on single targets? For sake of comparison lets take Mind/Fire dominator vs Fire/Rad corruptor...
Can dom's cause pain in PvP? -
I don't really take Arctic fog for stealth... it seems to have some very good resists built in it like 15% Energy/Cold/Fire and snare resists... sounds useful, especially with all the EM people around.
Though I do lean towards acrobatics on the second thought, as I will already have some good defenses with Benumb and all kiting and recharge slowing I got.
By the way - I see people tend to skip the Patron Power pets. Is there any reason for that? It looks to me like a nice investment - so what is the reason for the pet hate? -
Hello, people... I am a relatively new player seeking advice on making PvP Ice/Cold corruptor with a bit of AoE for some PvE as well... I currently have Spines/Regen scrapper which I enjoy greately, but I also want to have some red side representive as well...
I do not incluide slotting - I just want you to check the build overall and see if it has the needed stuff to live in sirens Call (30 exemplar) and that it ofc has everything needed for level 50. Please give me advice on what to remove or add as well!
Also I have 4 questions build regarding:
1) Is it better to take Acrobatics or Arctic Fog for PvP purposes at level 30? (Siren's Call)
2) Patron powers: what is a better choice as level 49 power? Disruptor (Arachnobot summon) or Web Cocoon?
3) Maybe it is a better idea to tak Web Cocoon instead of Web envelope and then add Bitter Freeze Ray to the build in order to have on option to stack high magnitude hold on targets? (3 powers with 3 mag hold each, with somehasten and recharge reduction will beat 12 mag protection and cause toggle drop)
4) I have only one travel power in my build: Super Jump. Is it enough for PvP or I better take super speed as a backup option?
Thank you for your time!

So I tried a bit of Bloody Bay here and it is quite disappointing - no, not the build... Not enough meat to "trow moar bonz lol" at.
Barely any red people there... Also it seems that I am more playing like some ranged attacker - I slotted impale with some IO 3XDAM and 3XACC, but I think I will be changing that to incorporate some significant range increase and maybe one part slow IO
Bunny hop hop with superjump "trowin' bonz" at people... seems to drive EM brutes crazy (the only brute type I met so far, made me feel less guilty for using a FOtM)...
I'd say I wait for Throw Spines more than for a next level Ripper... -
Update guys... That Spines/Regen is absolute miracle of a character I just adore so much... I got to level 20 (my highest character in the game so far) and this guy already got me 5 mil influence and 6 milion more coming!
It is an AoE farming machine - I AoE farmed hazard zones for 2 days and got me 2 VERY powerful recepies: Kismet: +6% Accuracy (sells for 5 mil in the house - sold it already) and Karma: Knockback Protection (sells for 6 mil in the house)
I don't know if 11+ mil inf is really high in this game (for me it looks like a sky high on my newbie level, but who knows), but I know for sure - having 11 mil as level 20 first character that made it all by himself is not really that ordinary...
And this guy has farmed nearly one million inf from the normal salvage and recepie drops and selling in the auction.
Amasing... -
Now that I have settled with the AT type... I wonder what kind of evil Epic powers should I take for my mean Spines/Regen...
I hovered around those power sets and I like the idea of Power Mastery... Adding another build up and Total Focus (with scrapper melee modifier) seems to cover nice for some royal pain burst damage here and there...
Besides... I can already see how those EM stalkers will drop a load into their suits seeing a scrapper with Double build-up + some tasty red + 112.5% Total Focus nailing them... Maybe I should even take stealth for more comedy effect...
And some Lethal/Smashing resistance from there seems nice... -
Good enough for me...
It being FoTM is a bit disappointing, but I really love concept here... all those spines sticking out and piercing things and ranged attacks with tied slowing effects and poison, of course - just too sweet. And AoE effects, mmm...
With broadsword I was dead bored (well I got it to 11, so not much seen there, but still), with spines I already start loving the thing at level 8. -

oh god not another spines/regen.....
[/ QUOTE ]
Somehow I find this wail rather reassuring...
So judging by that I believe spines/regen is at least viable in PvP? -
An update here...
I did a little thinking and research in attempt to find some good power mix of Ice/Cold Corruptor (I like the style, but hate the squishiness) and BS/SR or BS/Regen (Good burst and survivability, but so little utility - basically it has nothing special, becides pure damage... plus the sword is so slooooooow and boring and kiting is an issue) and I found an answer!
I will go for Spines/Regen scrapper... It has some nice anti-kiting abilities thanks to slows and ranged attack with -fly tied to it, it has a lot of nasty debuffs tied to attacks, it has some good damage, it is quick and is quite durable. Plus it looks unique and interesting (glowing fists are just everywheere and reek of some peasantry brawling, swords are just old - every mmo is crawling with them already, while all these firebolts, icebolts and whateverbolts are just unoriginal).
I decided to ditch SR as it is just too endurance heavy for my taste with all those toggles around (and I am horrified about the idea of losing those toggles mid-fight), while regen is a good all around way to keep yourself up and allows more room for mistakes with it's powerful healing and endurance management.
Opinions on Spines/Regen are welcome - I would love to hear some feedback from a veteran players here... -
i am responding from my cellphone, so the text may seem crude. anyways i decided to give reflex scrapper a try. will see how it goes... thanks for your help, everyone!
-
Oh another something I wish to clear up...
I don't expect my AT being a super powered, impossibly to kill doom machine which two-shots things right and left.
I just want my AT being fairily competitive in most cases and be a threat to consider. I am fully ok with having weaknesses and counters, I don't want these weaknesses and counters written in 10 size text cover two sides of a A4 sheet, though. That's why this thread is here.
Also please mind keeping the player "skillz" factor out of the descussion. I am well aware that player skill is a majorly deciding factor in the game and a skillful player with a weak AT combination can outplay a skilless player with FoTM build. However in this thread we decide for a base for a future skillful player, skill alone will not really help you when you come against established PvP'ers.
Like some poster said (I just love his comment) - "this is not some super mad kung-fu movie where a weakling main hero goes to train and hone skills in the mountains for years and then comes back and beats all the bad guys". It's just true - skill will come definately, but you need to have a decent basis (AT) as well! -
So then let's update the question, stakes are high - you get to decide what I am going to do next several months!
BS/Regen is out of the game and replaced by BS/SR thanks to the feedback gathered here, yet still - not all hope is lost for the villain side as my delusioned mind is so easy to convince to go to the the darkside...
Overall PvP effectiveness - what is better? BS/SR scrapper or Ice/Cold Corruptor?
Reminder - I will go Corruptor if BS/SR by the opinion of the most will be found lacking in following parameters:
1) majorly kitable
2) it's damage output lacking due to resists
3) easily countered otherwise
1) I would not like people to get away from me too easly and expect me to get swift, quickness, super speed and super jump - take that into account when evaluating kitability. Of course I realise that this still will be an issue, but I want the kiter to have a serious run for it's money before he can safely keep me at distance. Question is: can /SR with dual travel powers and swift+quickness deliver that?
2) I enjoy doing some bursty damage that shows big numbers and makes my opponents shout out "[censored] nerf" scream of appreciation occasionally (not once in a blue moon though, but on quite a regular basis). Can BS deliver that or it will be suffering from resists badly?
3) I would not really love to see most of the players having some sort of a easily avaible and unexpected counter to my character (fly comes to mind) and if it is there - I want to have an easily avaible counter move to combat that. What kind of such abilities widely exist and can BS/SR can provide me with a viable counter to such abilities through epic or other avaible means there?
*I don't mean things like: "Certain X/Y AT combination has some power here which can absolutely waste you - BS/SR is worthless because of that" (refer to the post about of that blaster which claims to be hitting through elude, a good, yet uncalled feedback, which absolutely has nothing to do with a qustion asked). I mean: "Everyone nowadays runs around with power X which absolutely and hopelessly destroys you by *insert random way here*"
Thanks for your help, people! I really appreciate this, because you, guys, will save me a huge amount of valuable time, if your judgement will prove correct. -
I see multiple referances to the BS/SR scrapper and after hecking Super Reflexes options it seems it is quite fitting a melee character with passive slow resistances and passive/active speed boosts to help with kiting. It also seems to have quite multiple mitigation toggles for just about everything but psi... and Elude seems to be much stronger than MoG.
Maybe I should actually try BS/SR then? Any experienced opinions on BS/SR here? -
I need yet another advice from the time hardened veterans here.
I am a new player here and want to create a character with a PvP mindset.
After some careful selection I have came up with 2 AT combinations I want to play, but I have enough time for playing only one of them. So I need a help to decide, because I just fail to do that...
My choices are Ice/Cold Corruptor and BS/Regen Scrapper. I want to chose one of those.
My personal observation based off extensive forum reading and almost no game experience at all.
Ice/Cold Corruptor
Pros:
1. Ranged attacker with built in superior kiting ability with slows.
2. Ability to heavily debuff the critically important regen, speed and recharge rate of a foe.
3. Snow Storm can bring flyers down and has no accuracy check.
Cons:
1. Damage is not that great, no real burst whatsoever.
2. No self defense, except for debuffing an enemy, which might fail you, especially if there is more than 1 opponent.
3. Endurance intensive.
My overview: Ice/Cold corruptor looks like a really solid duelist and it has a very painful debuffs on speed and regen which can render many melee AT's useless and extremely easy to take out. Other than that - ranged fighting has a very obvious advantages over melee when it comes to mobility, combat movement and ease of damage applying. However with all that Ice/Cold seems to be very endurance heavy, has no inherent way of recovering HP and no self protection buffs, meaning that it is easy to catch at the wrong moment and waste fast while it is concentrated on taking on someone else.
BS/Regen Scrapper
Pros:
1. Great damage and burst ability.
2. Very good defense and endurance management.
3. Unresistable critical hits and defense reducing attacks give an ability to pierce some of the harder foes defenses and resistances.
Cons:
1. Pure melee with no significant ranged ablity. Screams: Kite me!
2. Almost no significant debuffs, which leaves enemies able to do whatever they want and need freely.
3. Slashing damage is resisted a lot.
BS/Regen Scrapper looks like a monster fighter, it has some crazy burst ability with sudden critical hits and it is not a squishie either with powerful heals and regeneration. It is also very simple to use with it's straight-forward playstyle. No major debuff ability is both a blesing and a curse, while havng no debuffs is bad, not needing those to finish off an enemy is a plus there. However, all of the damage done is Slashing which is heavily resisted and being a melee fighter places a huge restrictions on you, especially considering all the vertical mobility you can get in this game.
Basically - I will go scrapper, if it is not easily kitable/avoidable by majority of a PvP players and if it's damage is not resisted and deflected by everyone to rediculousness with simple basic skills. -

sigh...why does it always has to be regen? Its like theres an assembly line for regen scrappers in atlas >_<
[/ QUOTE ]
Well it is a known graphical issue in the character secondary selection screen for scrappers:
I got a screenshot here - it looks like this:
invulnerability
super reflexes
[u]--->>> REGENERATION <<<--- (TAKE THIS, NAB!)[u]
dark armor

Well, I think I'll go BS/Regen scrapper in the end as it suits my vision of a durable, unconditionally good (no need to hide or wait for fury to do evil things) character with ability to perform teh "omgwtfbbq" chains on regular basis.
As much as rad/sonic defender sounds like a totally mean package, I just don't really like overdependencies on buff/debuff/mez/questionable techniques. I prefer a more conservative approach - take some piece of iron and smash it into someone's face for a great direct effect. -
Greetings all... I am new to the game and seek to start a character which is based around being competitive in PvP.
My chosen options are: BS/Regen Scrapper, BS/SR Scraper, Fire/Fire Brute, Ice/Cold Corruptor, NB/Regen Stalker, NB/SR Stalker.
What I seek is a character that is extremely good in 1 on 1 situations, is moderately durable (would it be pure mitigation or all kinds of EFFECTIVE tricks like hold/slow/hide), and most importantly capable of pulling out a "omgwtfbbq" burst damage attack chains on regular basis (not something once in a blue moon when stars allign).
So I need an experienced suggestion here - what to take?
So far I lean the most towards BS/Regen Scrapper and NB/SR Stalker. I need an experienced advice - I can't decide on a character for about a week already.
Also I am open to other suggestions - it simply I prefer either Scrapper, Brute, Corruptor or Stalker.
Note: I don't want a "Moment of Glory" builds (not skill) - meaning things like EM/x Stalker gankers or anything else of that type which is an all or nothing builds. I want something rounded up well that acts good most of the time...
Thanks!
