Dark Defender for PvP

I guess everyone reading this section knows i am a n00b about PvP. But i am obbesed about making a good PvP Defender. I don't wanna go into Rad/Psi build, actually trying to find a way to overcome them.

Here's my build for PvP Defender. I tried to do my best to utilize battlefield with powers.

Switch to another secondary. Dark has pretty poor damage.

Yeah i realized it but it has utility in powers. What do you suggest for secondary? Psychic Blast, Sonic or Electric. (I guess Archery and Energy Blast is pretty useless in PvP)

Sonic or Psi pretty much. Elec is nice for a team-based toon but doesn't really have amazing damage for duels.

I guess psychic blast would propably be best. Could maybe stack the immob so they'd stay put long enough for you to drop tar patch on their head. -recharge is always good as well. ps. I made dark/psi myself, but cant find the energy to play it

Hi Knightly, it’s funny you’ve made this post; I’ve been looking at the PvP potential of Dark/ a lot lately, and I personally reckon it would be pretty decent.

I agree, go for /Psy or /Sonic. /Sonic has Aim which could prove useful in certain cases where accuracy is to low but I’ll be going for /Psy. The attacks I’ll be taking activate much fast and have mez effects which can be a real problem for many players; not forgetting it’s psychic damage which in PvP is great. That’s enough about what secondary to take, this posts about Dark/ after all.

Dark/ when slotted up and ready to go:

-65% tohit debuff, and if the pet is hitting as well that’s around, if not more than -140% tohit debuff.

-62.5% damage debuff, and with the pet that’s boosted to over -100% damage debuff.

That’s always on, if you play well.



If you make a nice little attack chain of Howling Twilight which will ground and slow them, then pop Tar Patch under them, they dead! When you’ve done this:

-jump,
-265% runspeed, snails pace,
-3000% regeneration rate, (Instant Healing? What’s that?)
-62.5% recharge speed,
-30% damage resistance

Nice figures^^^



Another great power you shouldn’t over look is Black Hole, a 10second AoE cage which can be enhanced to 20secs. It has a long recharge time but slotted up can be dropped to 60secs, lower with Hasten and/or Set Bonuses. Use it when ever you’re in a pickle.

I wouldn’t bother with Petrifying Gaze, a nice hold but your pet has one anyway and even though a hold from you and your pet would be nice, I wouldn’t count on that for winning fights. You have almost every mez type in the game for players to waste away their Break Frees on anyway.

Speaking of mez, with Dark/Psy it has everything except confuse and repel, I think every AT in the game except Dark Scrappers are going to be forced to use up their break frees.

Hold
Immobilize
Stun
Sleep
Terrorized
Knockback
Intangible/Untouchable (not that BFs help)


Yet and other great point is that you have a nice +20% resistance to Energy, Negative Energy, and Psionic damage. That’s before you get your Epic, you could get Temp Invuln for some nice Smashing/Leathal resistance or even for Psychic Epic and further increasing your resistance Psionic

You have stealth from Shadow Fall, get Stealth IO and hey presto you have Invisibility, also Shadow Fall give Fear mez protection, so that’s one less mez type to worry about.

Small defence bonuses are nothing to over look, Shadow Fall gives 5%. If you’re going for Tactics which you should be really, get Maneuvers over Assault, giving you another 5% if you slot it. That’s 10% defence this will make a noticeable difference as it will stack with your huge debuffs in Accuracy making you even harder to hit.



Problem areas, basically it only has one and that’s Accuracy but you can get +acc/+hohitt buffs from many Powers and Enhancments.

+20% tohitt buff slotted Defender Tactics
+6% tohitt buff with Kismit Unique
+15% tohitt buff slotted Power Boost
Accuracy Set Bonuses

Another may be your Heals activation time, but I’m sure you’ll get used to it, just activate it while jumping upwards and half the activation time you’ll still be moving in the jump.

I'm with Stalk, TA is an excellent set and shouldn't be underestimated PvP.

Anywho. kin/elec is nice for draining there endurace, never actually slotted any damage though.

Hmmm maybe i re-roll my TA/Psi one. It was very good in PvE.

But...
I am getting away from the game each day. This is one of my maybe this will tie me game but i don't know if i can be a PvPer. Also it will bring the same problem in front of me again, people. For every person i can count friend i can point out 10 people who i don't like. So in short this one is not about the game, about MMO games in general. I will try to hang out with V6 guys for a while and think about leaving on next month when my sub ends.

Thanks for friendly advices i will keep them in mind if i decide to stay.

Something really strange happened to me last night. I woke up at 4:00 am and felt a stronge urge to play CoH. As i have to come to work in the morning i resist the urge and sleep again. Now i'm waiting eagerly to get home to play again. And while resisting urge i came up with an idea about Trickster.

Maybe i botched again but i decided to make my TA PvPer as a Ill/TA controller. As i understand most PvP toons are lvl 50 first i try to make him/her (still can't decide about gender and history, but possibly she will be an American Indian who's controlling spirits of the Ancients).
