Ivn/SS question
I looked into improving my psi defence with set bonuses - I found I couldn't wangle much in without seriously compromising the rest of my defences. So I just suck it up and take it like a man. In a bunny costume.

i did a rough mock up of an inv/ss build, and got the following set bonuses:
+2% DamageBuff
+3% Defense
+6.25% Defense(Lethal)
+8.77% Defense(Energy)
+2.52% Defense(Negative)
+1.88% Defense(Psionic)
+4% Enhancement(Heal)
+40% Enhancement(RechargeTime)
+MezResist(Immobilize) (Mag 12.1%)
+MezResist(Sleep) (Mag 10.5%)
+MezResist(Terrorized) (Mag 2.2%)
+5% Recovery
+26% Regeneration
+7.25% Resistance(Fire)
+7.25% Resistance(Cold)
+0.63% Resistance(Energy)
+3.76% Resistance(Negative)
+3% Resistance(Psionic)
the empahsised bits would beef up your defences against elem/en attacks a bit, but this was a really rough build...
looking at
reactive armour (res powers)
red fortune (def powers)
pounding slugfest (melee powers)
pulverising fisticuffs (melee powers)
each of which have a def/res to el/en with three of the set used, meaning you dont need to gimp your build too badly to get a few bonuses. i did gimp it a bit more than that tho, just to see what i caould get out of it.
also note it still has 40% rech buff to help u get ur powers up faster. personally thats where my inv/em build will be aiming, with a small nod at extra defence. Tbh i dont find there are that many holes that need plugging, so i'm using IOs to give me a bit more attacking edge with faster recharges

i have a BS/regen scrapper (lv34) who is slotted with crushing impacts and doctored wounds and atm im about 20 secs shy of perma dull pain
i was thinking this would be equally as good with a tank but looking at other threads about inv holes i was thinking, giving him energy or PSI defence would be better
could anyone with experiece or a valid opinion share there thoughts?

In my opinion you would be best concentrating on increasing your defense & resistance to psi using the IOs sets. You can acheive a good defense to energy damage without having to try and slot IO sets especially for it. Having said that you will still need unstoppaable for AVs that do energy damage.
On the other hand you need to really concentrate on psi to build it up to reasonable lvls as the resistance starts at zero.
Below are the approximate figures I have achieved for the defense and resistance on my inv/ice tank, although it costs well over 100 million influence to achieve it todays market.
Figures given as DEF v 1, Def v 10, Resistance
Smashing 24.1, 45.1, 88.1
Lethal 24.1, 45.1, 88.1
Fire 25.7, 46.7, 29.9
Cold 25.7, 46.7, 29.9
Energy 24.1, 45.1, 27.1
Negative 24.1, 45.1, 27.1
Toxic Not shown on planner, 31.5
Psi 15.5, 15.5, 39.3
So as you can see I can acheive a defense of 45% in regards to energy damage v 10 foes in melee range.

so i think your build is out of the question for me but i was thinking, if i acheived perma dull pain (should cost far less then 100 mil) would my bumped up health be as good as psi/energy defence?

Speeding up dull pain would help a great deal.
Another possibility is getting aid self as well, with a few interrupt duration reductions it isn't too hard to use between damage ticks and can keep you upright.
Also increasing regeneration as much as possible will help.
Can get costly to do this one though.
The plus point here is that they help against all damage types instead of just one.
And Psi damage is not actually that common in the game.
