Tanker primary sets have seen there fair share of changes in the past 9 issues some good some bad but through it all has it made being a tanker more fun? thats for you to decide.

but with the advent of inventions each tanker primary has something they can use from the various sets to bolster their inherent abilities or even give them something that they never had in the first place, but this is not for everyone as not everyone agrees that inventions are the answer and i'm saying they are but it can make a tanks life alot more fun and survivable


Heroes: Phobos-, Protector-Bot, Shadow of Ra, Bionic Eye, Entropic Chaos, Strike-Freedom.

Well, for fire/ tankers it might be a very nice one, with the knockback protection SetBonus they can actualy take out acrobatics and safe a powerslot/bitty of endurance. But believe u need 2 or 3 sets of it at least?

Overal the normal inventions are usefull to basicly everyone, since a lvl50 gives that bitty more % buff then a 53SO, specialy for toggles and attacks its nice to have.

For my Granite, the +recharge sets come in handy, have Doctored Wounds (5) 5% recharge (earth embrace) and Lotg +7,5% recharge. 2nd set of DW(5) is ready to put them into Rooted. Its not that much versus 65%, but every bit helps abit But if i get a 2nd lotg-recharge, surely i will get a 2nd def power just to use it. (only have granite atm).

Other IO sets i probably wont get soon, the price is insane high and very hard to get. Next to that, the setbonus isnt always that great to spend millions on it. Some sets like the +regen or the 9% extra acc are very nice to have and very suitable, but for the price i can slot all my attacks together with lvl50 IO's. So its kinda to early to say if it becomes more fun, my tanks just have a bitty more damage, bitty more resist, bitty less endurance usage.. kinda like having +3 SO's slotted all the time

So far getting the IO's i require is proving difficult as my tank seems to have a non-existent drop rate on rares while my other toons are getting them left right and centre but i plan on doing TF's and Trials to get the rare stuff

my ice/fire/pyre build is neeeeearly finished now. and it's cost me a freakin bomb (probly about 60mil so far). i'm not gonna go into the whole build, cos i did that in the tanks and inventions thread, but using the multi-attrib enhances and factoring in set bonuses my slottings are equivelant to slotting 11 SOs in each power at the moment. She was great fun to play with just SOs, so i'm made up with her performance now. she is now more proficient in areas where she was lacking previously. Her end use and accuracy are improved in most powers, and recharge rates are improved across the board.

this seems to be another progression in builds really. first we had the original, old school 6 slotting. Then ED came and we moved on to 3 slotting.. and now? your guess is as good as mine to what, if anything, will become 'standard'.

personally, i think we're going to move from being able to generalise by AT. Previously you could say
"tanks need 3*def/res in each shield, and 1 end red if you've got the slots"
Now i think each powerset will have it's own optimal slotting, or must-have IOs. fire tanks' "must-have" IO may be KB protection, but GA tanks may go after LotG for example. Each tank will have to work out how to adapt his/her build to fit in what they want... and that's the hard part. ED slotting logic has totally been blown out of the window in many cases

couldn't have put it better myself m8 the invention sets have added a new element of customisation to the AT's that varies for each primary/secondary combo

i agree the invention system is the best thing to happen to CoX since i joined but my only worry is how long b4 ppl inviting u teams (high lvl) start asking if u have got these bonuses? its hard enough now bein a INV gettin invited to a STF..

Try being an Ice Tank. Apparently a team that one of my friends was on tonight refused to believe that it was even possible to do the STF with an Ice Tank (OK, I died a bit, but we still did it).

The only bit I see that would be "too tough" for an ice tanker would be tanking recluse before the yellow tower is destroyed. But with enough sturdies (or a Sonic Defender) and a dedicated Empath, I don't see a problem.

I dont like cries of doom!! Some people may think that just having a stormie for a defender on it would mean doom but to me its not. To me a team first has to gel, then every player needs to know about proper timing, positioning and how to get a good combined usage of their powers so that they can be a proper unit really. I dont do fun, I like people who are in it to win it and try to do what most people would readily give up on cos then you really get a sense of achievement and that to me is what is really worth playing for.
