Returning player, new to Euro, need help please
1. You can have base teleports, different kinds of storages and minihospitals there too IE. Can also have PvP base raids.
2. Probably Quantum Flight. A shapeshift with very high fly speed that peacebringers get.
3. You use salvage to build things in the base, and when i9 arrives, for inventions. You get it by fighting just like normal.
4. Yes, Bloody Bay is lvl 15+, located in Skyway, Sirens Call is 20+, can't remember where that is, Warburg is 30+, located in Kings Row, and last but not least, you can find Recluses Victory, 40+, in Atlas Park.
hi blind.
first of all welcome back to the game.
second i apologize if im hard to understand, english is not my first language but i try to be as clear as i can, if you dont understand something that i wrote just let me know and ill try to clarify it
now let me see how much help i can be with regards to your questions:
1. about the bases. you do indeed have to belong to an SG to be able to access them, assuming your SG has a base or other SG's who has a base and are in colaition with your SG.
what i mean is that each SG can form a coalition with other SG's, up to 10 i think, and than when you go to the base entry a list pops up with all the accessible bases, your own SG base and the other bases of the SG's in the colaition and you choose from that list which base to enter.
and it is not like player housing, what i mean is that the bases are more like the bases of a super group like avengers in the marvel comics, it is a place that symbilizes the base of all the members of the SG, personal space is still not in the game and as far as i know there arn't any plans in the foseeable future to implement anything like this.
2. about that im afraid i cant help you, sorry
3. about salvage: there are 2 types of salvage in the game, base salvage and invention salvage, the invention will come into the game with i9, which sould be soon.
base salvage: to get this you have to belong to an SG and be in SG mode, meaning when you join an SG you can play either in SG mode or not.
while in SG mode you earn prestige and can get salvage by defeating enemies that give you xp, meaning if an enemy is gray to you you wont get salvage at all, else for each enemy defeated that isnt gray to you you have a chance to earn a piece of base salvage.
between levels 1- 24 you earn inf as usual in addition to prestige if youre in SG mode.
between levels 25-35 you earn less inf in sg mode.
after level 35 you earn only prestige instead of inf in sg mode.
the xp is unaffected no matter which mode youre in.
now base salvage is used in the crafting tables in the base to build items to place in the base, each item has a reciepe built into the table that costs prestige and certain salvage pieces to build - examples of things you can build are teleport pads, control items etc etc.
invention salvage: that will come with i9, for now it's still isnt in the live servers.
this salvage you earn in a couple of ways, and no matter wether youre in SG mode or not, what i mean is it isnt tied to wether you're in an SG or not.
- by defeating enemies just like enhancments.
- by completing TF's and trials
- every time you complete a mission, and i dont mean story
arcs, but any mission in the game there is a chance to get a salvage reciepe, ill explain about those later
now the invention salvage is composed of 2 parts, the items nedded to make the items and the reciepes.
the reciepes are actually a blueprint for 1 of the following things, a costume item, temp power, an enhancment, and a special enhancment that is part of a set.
basically each receipe list what invention salvage parts and inf cost you need to make it.
you can make them by using the universities and the crafting tables in them or in your base if you have it.
if you weant a more complete guide about the inventions themseles the invention part of the forum has a more complete information
4. there are 4 PvP zones in the game, those are clearly marked on the map of each zone that has an entrance to them and by signs before the entrance to the zone, i dont PvP much so i dont remeber where they are exactly im afraid, but the zones are :
warburg, siren call, recluse's victory and bloody bay.
in each of the PvP zones if you enter it than youre open to attack by the opposite faction, what i mean is if youre a hero than any villain PC can attack you and vice versa, and of course like any zone the npc's attack any1
anyway i hope this helps.
have fun and again wlcome back to the only game you need to play, ever!
Welcome back!
May have a gimped empath? Well, you'll be pleased to know that every character gets a free respec on Tuesday (May 1st) to celebrate CoH's 3rd birthday.
1. Currently the closest you get to personal is housing is to form a supergroup of 1. Not done this myself, although This I gather that it isn't as hard as it used to be since you can now get the smallest SG base rent-free IIRC.
2. Don't know.. though some powers have wave effects that come off the character, so if it was just a visual wave it may not have been due to flying per se. Can't recall which powers... but I know I have an alt that has this sort of visual effect noticeable when superjumping.
4. Siren's Call is located in East Steel Canyon.
By my mohawk shall ye know me!

Thanks for the replies, folks, very handy.
Dazz, I understood your English perfectly. Thanks for taking the time to write in so much detail, It really helped!
Dave, the guy flying literally made a sonic boom kind of sound as he flew past, or at least a loud thunderclap.
He didn't appear to be a Kheldian but I could be wrong.
Reading your replies I am now even more excited to immerse myself into Paragon City once more. Shame I'm having to work on a Sunday
Thanks again, hope to see you all on the streets.
EDIT: Good news about the respec, I better read up a LOT on empathy defenders before I use it. I used to be a very good Empath (Got my Doctor badge and everything >.< )
Welcome back Blind, about the flight thing, could've been a sonic hero, dont know if they have any self affecting sonic boom powers though
Hawk
hmm sonic boom sound in mid-air? hmmm sounds like a Peacebringer/possibly Warshade if he turned into a different creature then its an Epic Archetype which as probably already stated above (too lazy to read 2night :P ) you have to be lvl 50 to unlock
at the moment there is only one type of savlage that is sed for the sg base to build everything from base eleprters to waepons for defence
once i9 hits which is due any week now there will be a second kind of salvage used for the invention system as explaned above.
as for pvp zones there are 4 at the moment bloody bay, sirens call, warburg and recluses victory every one of them has a worning sign outside it and once you enter it has a pop up worning stating you are now entering a pvp zone and it gives you 30 second count befroe you can be attacked however most of the places you enter the zones are safe anyway so you dont have to panic and run the second you relise your in the wrong place
as for your poor defender thre will be anoter free respec soonish as part of the hole 3 year bday of coh thing plus you get them as vetran rewords as well for 12 and 24 morth
There isnt a problem on earth that cant be solved with the proper aplication of hi explosive's
Darklords of the Underworld/Lords of Light forums www.armleg.com/dlotu
Scotlands Bru ill/emp troller lvl 50
Monster Bru SS/stone brute lvl 50
Carman thugs/dark mm lvl 50
Thanks for the responses, all.
All I need now is a decent SG. The SG list on the forum looks a bit out of date, so if anyone knows of a friendly, mature SG send Blastforce a message
Glad to know I'll get a "Warning, you're about to get owned, noob." message in PvP zones
By the way, I changed my forum name from Blind_Strike to Blastforce as that is the character I'm playing most at the moment.
you're more than welcome in our SG though i have to warn you we arent a very big group. Currently the active core consists of 9 members and then a few that keep bouncing in and out at times. Lots of witty banter flyin back n forth though.. give a shout on my global if you're interested, or just need some other help if you still got questions.
Hope to see you ingame once
"god, how many devs did hami have to sleep with to get ED?"
Total Cat @Stagefright
Thank you very much for the offer, but I actually joined Star last night. Funnily enough I was not the only returning player, seems Star has more than its fair share of old newbs, to coin a phrase.
A good sign, I hope, as I have read a lot of these doom threads regarding CoX dying. I certainly hope not as it is an AWESOME game.
Although the Cryptic Studios Marvel 360 MMO could steal me away
Thanks for all this folks, I too am returning after a long break and will find these answers very handy
Hello there! I'm a returning player, new to Union, and I thought I'd say hi and hopefully find some like minded people.
I'm not exactly a new player to CoH, I played a long time ago on the U.S. servers, not long after release.
I returned very briefly after CoV was released, transfered my main character to Union server, on this side of the pond, but I didn't play for very long (Less than a week), before other commitments took me away from the spandex.
So, I finally got around to resubscribing last week, I'm back and loving it.
However, in my time away from Paragon city I have been playing a lot of other MMO's, and have entirely forgotten how to play CoX.
My main is a level 43 Empathy/Dark Defender. I worry I may have gimped her last time I came back, and have no respecs available at the moment, but that can be dealt with I'm sure.
I've been messing around with various other alts, and slowly getting back to grips with the game, although quite a lot confuses me. The Epic power pool sets are new to me, as are the Supergroup bases and salvage. And also I am yet to try PvP in CoX, I'll probably suck at it
To put it in perspective; last time I played seriously, people were very excited by the new unlockable archetypes that were in development (Kheldians and Warshades). That gives you some idea with how out of touch I am with the current state of the game.
So...what I'm looking for really is a Supergroup of helpful, friendly people to aid me in finding my way in the game once again.
I'd like a mature, adult oriented, friendly, fun loving SG, with a good social aspect
All I can offer in return is my sparkling personality and devastating wit (Once I've fully slotted them). I'm willing to try PvP, although I doubt I'd be very good at it.
Also, I have some questions some of you may be able to answer straight away:
1. These bases, I assume you need to be in a Super Group to have one, they're not simply player housing?
2. I was in Atlas Park last night, flying around and getting used to controlling my character again, when someone flew past me and seemed to cause a sonic boom in their wake. What the hell? I want to be able to do that!
3. What is salvage for and how to I get it?
4. Are there open PvP zones that if I wander into them I am open to attack?
Um...that's it for now
So; Hi Union! If you see Lifekiss or Blastforce around, say hi
I'm off to do some more reading, and try and learn what I have unlearned.
