What's "better". Claws/Regen or Claws/SR?
REGEN
Ok that was pretty definitive lol Thanks Firekitty
I am slightly biased though...
I have a Claws/SR but have regens too. Personally i think claws suits anything. Its great DPS, it lacks in adding def to you, the def debuff in PVE/P is pants (Claws being a disarming set historically, an extra 1 or 2 def debuff attacks would of been better), but the DPE and DPS being either ST or AOE is sweet and sweet enough to match the fact that most in opposition have some resist to Lethal. Id cry for Kat and BS in terms of DPS but the fact they have build up and parry makes me suddenly stop but MA disorients could be better with a faster recharge dragons tail. In PVP choose Regen over SR.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
If you can get regular (and reliable) teams then go for SR (and invest in the medicine pool for the self heal just for soloing). Elude is the big kicker that really leaves Regen behind (assuming you can wait until 38 for it).
If, however, you plan to solo more than team then Regen is probably a better choice as it is more self sufficient although it will feel squishy until you get Integration at 16.
Make sure you 2-slot for accuracy on your attacks, Claws doesn't get the 5% Acc bonus that Broadsword, Katana and Martial Arts have so any accuracy buff you can get is a good thing even after you get Follow Up.

Why does everyone insist on 2 slotting these days? I only do it on key powers. Unless you are in the habit of fighting +4s all the time I'm not sure it's worth the extra slot.
The 5% Acc bonus that Broadsword, Katana and Martial Arts have is worse than a training enhancement.
With claws you get Follow Up. This provides a proper to hit buff of 10%, rather than a rubbish accuracy increase. With Follow Up unslotted for to hit buffs and 1 ACC you hit the to hit cap against +2s and still have a 77% chance of hitting +4s. I would 2 slot Follow Up for accuracy though, the rest are probably not worth it unless it really starts annoying you.
On to the orignal question, SR is a much tighter build than Regen. SR powers are all workhorses, I'm not sure there is a missible power in the set. Regen has some much haves and some missables ( Resilience, Revive, MoG ) which are useful but not essential. Also Regen has Quick Recovery which allows you to delay stamina until the 30s so you can try out more of your primary early.
@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.
2 slotting Acc is for PvP
which if you get focussed acc. as well...
Hmmm starting to think that maybe I should drop Claws and go for MA/SR....

Yes, but it's 5% on top of what you get for enhancements. No one ever died from having too much accuracy.

[/ QUOTE ]Depends on how you play it (and what origin you take). I have no problems soloing with a mutated Regen to lvl 16. Rarely die, and if do it's because a patrol gangs up on the mob I'm initially tackling. So long as you have reconstruction, then health shouldn't be a problem...However, generally try to avoid CoT most of time, and they are the worse for mez IMHO.

I know. My point is it makes little difference. It's not a bad thing. It just doesn't help enough to make a difference to your slotting.
This is unlike say the 15% accuracy bonus on Archery which is enough to be able to hit as though you are were 1 level higher, so you can 1) Avoid having a second ACC SO or 2) Not have any Accuracies at all if you can rely on a moderate to hit buff or defence debuff on your enemies.

First of all I'm not saying that 5% bonus would substitute for an SO in any way.
Secondly, in my experience with Scrapper primaries that 5% goes a long way during the early levels especially when you face -acc types like Skulls bosses and CoT Spectral Daemons. Early days in a scrappers solo career are really focused on a race against time with offence making up the lions share of any defence a secondary set can supplement. Missing on a single attack can be costly, missing on two or three can be fatal as it all costs time and time is you health being wittled away. I'd rather overcompensate in general than undercompensate and know that the likes of Spectral Daemon Lords can debuff me to the point where I'm flailing blindly while getting torn to shreds.
The 5% acc bonus of the sword sets goes well with the -def of the attacks, made hitting mobs in the early levels much easier.

FireKitty is agreeing with me. I rest my case.

Hmm, better go and edit that post then...
I have a level 35 Claw/SR Scrapper and I can say it was definately hard in the lower levels (debt badges hehe), but now I'm slotted up with SOs and have more defensive powers I'm loving it!!!
I got a Claws/Regen scrapper (Level 40) and I can easily solo, and have been able to for everything. But since 38 i've been on (Relentless[im not sure what it is on heroes]). I really do love him, and if I made another I'd personally make a Spines/Dark for PvP..
The main drawback of Regen is the lack of +perception, so i'd only pvp in anywhere but RV without a Empath near me
Murf.
Thinking of retrying the claws set but can't decide on a secondary. Which would you recommend? Regen or SR?
