Possible builds for newb stalk?

Aryslan

Hi,
yesterday i got my copy of the game and started to play it, before getting it i have read the forums long time deciding what AT to chose. The thing is i decided to start a stalker but i dont know what build to pick, i have 4 build in mind, i have used the search button but i need experienced villains hints.

Before all must clarify im PvE oriented and mainly soloing, dont have enough time to get in groups T_T.

The first one is NB/NINJ, the defense given by DA and the healing and GOD MODE obtained by NINJ make it a very good candidate to me, and the AS animation looks cool.

The second one is EM/NINJ, this is for the raw power, but im not so much interested in this one, AS animation looks [censored] and Endurance eater. pink pom-pom of death

The third one is CL/SR, i read this is a very good combination due to the speed of claws and defense of SR. AS animation looks cool too.

The last one is DM/SR, i have read also is a very good build to scrap, but DM does not have good attaks till high lvl, but the accuraccy debuff plus SR makes very hard to hit, and the fear component is good too.AS animation looks same as EM.

After this, what teleport power you recommend me. I think Hasten and SS suits the best for my char, and Hasten is a very good skill, though for claws and NB not so great since their attacks are fast, not as EM and DM.

As secondary i am between Ninj due to the heal, god mode and overall protection, not against knocks and SR which makes the char almost untouchable.

Hope someone can advise me about this. Thanks in advance and who knows, maybe we cross our paths ingame.

EDIT: BTW im in Union Server, the name of the char is Aryslan.

Well, I have a DM/SR Stalker. Even without SOs (lvl 19 atm), I can scrap an orange mob and dont get hit. Besides, DM looks cool hehe

Seriously, I chose this build for 3 main reasons:

- Fear: although you wont be able to scare a boss, it's gold in PvP (which I like)

- High defense + acc debuffs: SR grants the highest defense value which, combined with -acc, will make you very hard to hit (at least in PvE).

- Siphon Life: SR lacks a heal, but use SL often and you may be even harder to kill. Although, I still dont have it, I'm planning to get it at lvl 22.

And Elude is really good, a nice God Mode.

WELCOME TO CoV !!!

Firstly welcome to the game, you'll enjoy it.

For a PvE based Stalker your looking good with the power pool's you mentioned.

/SR does lack a self-heal but you can make up for that by opening up the Medicine pool and taking either Aid Other or Stimulant followed Aid Self. /SR does have the highest Defence of the Stalker Secondary as well, although when you do get hit you take the full brunt of the blow as you have pretty much no Resistances.

/Nin is an other good set for a Stalker, Defensive based and has some nice tricks up its sleeve (Self Heal, Caltrops etc.) although it doesn't have any Knock back Protection so SJ as a Travel power is worth a look to give you access to Acrobatics (KB protection).

For Primaries, Claws have a fast recharge time and a couple of short ranged attacks (Focus, Shockwave) although they do deal a widely resisted damage type (Lethal)

The Pink Pom-Poms do some fantastic single target damage although its a power pool that personally I've never really got on with.

Ninja Blade also does Lethal damage which again is widely resisted but it does lower a target's defence with just about every attack from the pool.

DM has a few nice tricks up its sleeve as well with its -ACC.

Don't overlook the Fitness Pool as well if your running a few toggles.

Hope this helps a bit and I'm sure other people will be along shortly to weigh in with some more advice.

hmmm sounds good. The EM build is the less attractive to me, i liked NB and CL builds, NB/NINJ is better for me than CL/NINJ due to the high defenses, and im always been of swords.
The thing is NB/NINJ build is very common for what i read, the newest and most unexplored build is DM, cause is the newest powerset that has been added, i might give it a try.

My personal ranking is 1- NB/NINJ 2-DM/SR 3-CL/SR 4-EM/NINJ, the thing is that the AS animation for DM is so lame. Fu_Leng have you already PvPed with ur char? If so how the fight was?

As far i have seen there are 3 types of Stalkers: Ninjutsu, Super Reflexes and Regen.
Regen is out of my build since its not my playstile, Ninjutsu looks very good cause the defenses but again you are getting hit since i would pair it with NB and the attacks of this pool lower defense, not accuracy.
SR are more the style i play, not being hit, that and lowing accuracy thanks to DM makes hard to be hit.

Do you know if SR is very Endurance consuming? I think almost all the skills on the pool are toggled no? Only a couple of them are passive, evade for ranged and evade for melee i think.

/SR can be a an Endurance Hog, you get the total of 4 Toggles (Hide, Focused Senses, Focused Fighting and Evaision). Practiced Brawler, which is marked as a Self Click power, although you can get it to stack with the aid of either Hasten (from the Speed pool) or Quickness (/SR pool) and a couple of Recharge Reductions so in a way its 5 toggles if you put it on auto.

Messing around with combinations of diffrent power pools until you find the one that suits you is probably the best advice to offer though. Hope you enjoy playing a Stalker.

Stalker is my AT thats for sure. The thing is there are 2 builds im standing for NB/NINJ and DM/SR. i would like to go the first one, but the lethal damage is resisted a lot, and i must rely on the Armor Debug and Armor buffing. The DM build looks good aswell, i will give it a try tonight at home.

EM is, in practise, the best primary for pvp and pve imo, followed by dark, as they are the only ones that don't deal just s/l damage.
Secondary is not as important, tho. For PvP i would recommend sr or nin, but just for the +percep and the god mode.

Often overlooked in NinjaBlade is the extra amount of criticals it can give you compared to the other sets, a payoff for its supposed weak damage.

That and its top tier power has a small cone that can give you multiple crits and while not a popular pick, has a decent lower level cone for horizontal crits.

Oh and that AS just looks so damm cool

Just love my NB/Regen

Welcome to the game mate, hope you have fun playing it.

When I first started I tried all the alts before I decided on which one I wanted to play, and my advice would be to go for a pink pom pom of doom, as it does loadsa damage, and energy aura if your doing a stalker.

Failing that, go off and do a brute to start with, as they are without doubt the easiest AT to master and learn a bit about the game first, as I found doing 2 of these first helped me learn about the game mechanics as they are more forgiving if you make a mistake than a Stalker.

I do have an EM/EA stalker now, and love him to bits, again mainly to PvE.

look forward to seeing you on, don't forget to join some of the channels on the servers, like the Badgers and events channels, and team lots, as this is one of the greatest aspects of this game.

Good luck and have loadsa fun, and send me a tell if you see me on and I'll happily team with you.

Yesterday i played the DM/SR build and i must say i ended quite glad of that char, does a good damage and its hard to hit. The only thing i noticed is that the DM attacks misses often, more often than NB attacks, but this can be solved to slotting and also does more damage than NB. The main drawback is the AS animation, man it kills me.

The third DM attack, the one pummelling the foe with punchs is quite powerful but misses very often.

My NB/Ninj also was in the same mission, one to clear snakes, that is given by the contact after kalinda, i got killed twice there, with the DM build i didnt die once.

Hard to choose really.

With respect to the last posters but everyones throwing out ideas about which is 'the best' set to play but nobodys mentioned which is the most 'fun' to play.

Heres my Top 4 for most fun Primarys
1) Claws
2) Ninja Blade
3) Martial Arts
4) Spines

Em dosn't even get a lookin as its sooooooooooooo boring
DM is hard to level to the point its a chore.

Leveling a Claws/SR atm and its so much fun .. say what you want about 'the best' sets to play but if its not fun whats the point in leveling it ?

Chelsea why you say its more fun to play those powersets? I mean, i know and agree a Stalker should be more the way of Ninja, claws and such, but i found DM very funny to play atm, dont know at higher levels yet, the only drawback is the AS animation for Energy power sets.

I've got a level 32 DM/Reg Stalker and had no problems leveling with her i find the extra control from Touch of fear really increase's my survivability. With regards to missing i feel that way about every toon i play up till i get DO's and Shadow Maul because of the long animation makes you feel like your missing even more. I've tried DM on about 3 scrappers and ended up deleting each one but on my stalker i love it to bits and would change her primary for all the tea in China. One thing i would say is that getting hasten is advisable DM has a very poor attack chain without it though Quickness for your SR secondary should help you on that front. Also i don't know if your aware but cone attacks have a lower chance to critical so try not to use shadow maul from hide or on held targets. Anyway welcome to the game and enjoy

Yesterday leveled to 8, and picked BU. Rocking sky now, and once i got used to the AS animation it doesnt look so bad. Yea, now it doesnt miss so often, i spend a lot of infamy buying acc, dmg and recharge time enhacements. So far im very pleased. I was planning on getting SS, i wanted fly because its my 1st toon and its a temptation, but yetsterday ended a mayhem mission and got a jet pack usable for 2 hours, more tima than enought right now, so SS is coming closer. The only thing remaining is the last power pool. Dont know what to pick, maybe stamina, i got DM/SR with SR i get perfect brawler, nice defenses against mezz and KB and KU attacks, the accuracy debuff of attacks come very handy and with SR passive skills and active skills its very hard to get hit.

Looks cool.

you'll want stamina and i'd aim to get it as soon as possible ie level 20

Too many additional pools no? IF im not mistaken you would get Hasten and SS from Speed pool and , stealth or invis from Concealment and stamina from Fitness no?

I got those pools too, but also tp... but then again my stalker is EM so tp foe is useful

What is the meaning of TP? Teleport?

Posted

Yes. It is sometimes used in reference to recall friend power as well, as in "TP me?".

i think that the best type of stalker for pvping is DM/SR for example use fear acts as a hold that is hard to resist then placate (self hide) and assassinate them while they are in fear,or if you are fighting some one like a brute or a tanker you have accuracy debuff they are also good for pveing.
