Hello all

Just popped on to say hello! This is my first time on CoH, I did try the beta but that was so long ago I can't remember much!

I'll be looking for a supergroup if anyone is recruiting, looking for a nice fun friendly group, I probably wont be the most active player, but I'll try to get in a few hours most nights.

See you in game!

I havent created my toon yet ran home at lunch to start the updates and have got to wait till home time to don the spandex! But I will be coming to defiant!

Any recomendations on archtype? I'm thinking blaster, but am not sure, I would like something that can do well(ish) solo but also be useful in a team.

Welcome

What did you play in the beta?
All AT's have their '+' and '-'
the most important thing is that you have fun

Controllers are fun, possibly not the best Archetype to learn on though as intially they start out quite weak, ummm - Blasters? - yes , i suppose so.
I'll leave you in Golden Girl's capable hands , if you create a toon on Union feel free to give me a call.

I've tried blaster and tanker in beta, but I bet they're a bit different now! I think I'll just start with a blaster as I enjoyed that, if I get bored theres always plenty of alts to create!

Welcome back to the game.

Blasters are still fun - I'm levelling a Fire/Fire one at the moment and its highly enjoyable ... but here's a tip.

Get Aid Self

Either that or go for a Regen Scrapper. That will get you back into the swing of things very quickly, as its quite easy to play at lower levels.

Any one would be good but I would recommend Katana or Dark Melee.

Have fun

If you're not going to be able to play for long periods at a time, and mostly at night, it may be best to make a Scrapper - for optimal solo-ability. Playing a team-based AT at a time when it's hard to find a team, especially if you might have to leave any teams you manage to find after just an hour or two.

Incidentally, you're welcome to join my SG, the Dark Defenders - there's plenty of room there for upwards mobility, and we don't kick people out for not being on too often. Also, we've got a couple of nocturnal players you'd be likely to encounter if you play late evenings and night - me included.

Send a global tell to me at @BlackDragon if you wanna join up, and I'll handle the rest...

Thanks for the tips.

To be honest, the time I get on is dependent on ym GF kicking me off of the pc so she can play! I would expect at least a couple hours at a time, anytime between 6 and 12.

Scrapper might be a good idea for me especially with my time constraints, but would leaning towards soloing make it harder to be usefull in a team or later levels?

Nope. Despite what some folks might say about single-target attacks and teams, you'll still find a team very easily at higher levels. Scrappers are very useful "boss killers" and damage dealers, and regens self-reliance can take some of the burden off support characters.

I agree with Cobra_Man: Regen is by far the best soloing scrapper secondary in the early game, just pick whatever secondary you like. I'd say that for soloing Claws and Spines will be a bit more difficult than the rest since they offer no extra damage mitigation through +defense or mez, but they're far from "bad choices".

It's pretty hard to mess up a regen build: take Reconstruction, Dull Pain and Quick Recovery ASAP, and Integration at 16. Instant Healing is also a popular addition before level 30... the rest is all personal choice and by no means needed, so you can play about with extra pool powers.

Cheers, I think I'll be giving a scrapper a go shortly.

BlackDragon, thanks for the info I might give you a shout later on once I've got myself up on my feet!

Quick question, I picked up the police scanner in Kings Row, whats it for?! I don't remember seeing it before.

PS, managed to get lvl 6 be the end of the night, stuggeling a little in the harrows missions but still fun!!

The police scanner is just another way of accessing missions. They aren't linked into story arcs so you can pretty much do them whenever.

At the lvl you're at once you've done three of the missions available to you from the Police scanner you will get the option to go and save Atlas Park Bank from a robbery (Safeguard Mission). These are pretty good fun and you get a temporary power once you've completed it. As you progress through the levels you have to do a few more missions to access the Safeguards.

Cool, I'll give that a go!
I did try it while in kings row but got nothing, I guess I need to try it in Atlas Park.

Cobra_Man, cheers for the advice on the toon, I'm enjoying playing this

Ah, what lvl were you when you originally got the police radio?

The police band only opens up to use after level 5, but IIRC you can actually go and get the radio earlier than that. The Radio won't work in Atlas Park though as I'm pretty sure Kings Row is the starting zone for the police band missions.

The only other reason I can see why it didn't work was you already had three missions selected.

I think i got it at lvl 5, maybe 6 and I thought I tried it in kings row, but it might have been atlas park. I'll give it a try tonight see what happens.

Ps, if you see Miss Fireball on and get no reply, its my gf and I doubt she know how to work the chat!!
