Elec/Dev/Munitions Advice

Hey, guys.

I'm pottering around with a new build for PvP, and after reading a few comments on the board about different builds, etc, I've decided to seek advice on my build. It's primarily going to be a Stalker Killer, so the stacked perception of TD and Tactics would be nice - however, I also have Aim in the build. It seems a bit needless to have all three going, so do I really need Aim? Or, for that matter, Tactics? Losing Aim would free up other attacks for me, and losing Tactics would free up two more powers, since I'm only dipping into the Leadership pool for it.

Also, something else I'd quite like to know: obviously, I'm going to slot for Stamina, but I've been told by one person that a Blaster "absolutely needs" Health, whereas others have told me I don't, since I'd be losing Health faster than I'd be regenning it. Any thoughts?

You'll want aim for the +DMG, elec isn't all that high on damage so unless you're just planning to telemine everything, you'll really want that buff.

Health... If you're going to use defiance, you'll not want it. If you're getting aid self, you propably won't need it. Otherwies, I'd take it to reduce downtime.

You need Aim for increased damage as you won't be getting Build Up.

If you're going for a stalker killer build, take Tactics, Targetting Drone, Caltrops, Web Grenade and perhaps Cloaking Device.

Caltrops is autohit and will interrupt Assassin's Strikes if they manage to Placate you. Slot Web 'nade up a bit to drop their movement and recharge so you can kill them before they regenerate.

Don't take Health, Defiance will be a good, dear friend. Swift and Hurdle will help you with moving around stalkers.

Leaping is a great choise for travel power, as there are a lot of Impale and KB powers going round and you get immob resist from Combat Jumping, and KB resist from Acrobatics.

(sorry if I'm a bit incoherrent, haven't been sleeping lately)

Hmm, thanks for the advice.

Here's what I've put down so far, as well as an explanation for why I've chosen to go with this particular build:

Exported from Ver: 1.7.6.0 of the CoH_CoV Character Builder - (http://sherksilver.coldfront.net/index.php)
---------------------------------------------
Name: Happy-Smiley-Go-Go Man
Level: 50
Archetype: Blaster
Primary: Electrical Blast
Secondary: Devices
---------------------------------------------
01) --> Charged Bolts==> Dmg Dmg Dmg EndMod EndMod Rechg
01) --> Web Grenade==> Immob
02) --> Lightning Bolt==> Dmg Dmg Dmg EndMod EndMod Rechg
04) --> Ball Lightning==> Dmg Dmg Dmg EndMod EndMod Rechg
06) --> Hasten==> Rechg Rechg Rechg
08) --> Swift==> Fly Fly Fly
10) --> Air Superiority==> Dmg
12) --> Targeting Drone==> TH_Buf TH_Buf TH_Buf EndRdx EndRdx EndRdx
14) --> Super Speed==> Run Run
16) --> Health==> Heal Heal Heal
18) --> Short Circuit==> EndMod EndMod EndMod Rechg Rechg Rechg
20) --> Stamina==> EndMod EndMod EndMod
22) --> Fly==> Fly Fly Fly
24) --> Cloaking Device==> DefBuf DefBuf DefBuf EndRdx EndRdx
26) --> Aim==> TH_Buf TH_Buf TH_Buf
28) --> Zapp==> Dmg Dmg Dmg IntRdx IntRdx EndMod
30) --> Voltaic Sentinel==> Dmg Dmg Dmg Rechg

35) --> Assault==> EndRdx EndRdx EndRdx
38) --> Tactics==> TH_Buf TH_Buf TH_Buf EndRdx
41) --> Body Armor==> DmgRes DmgRes DmgRes
44) --> Sleep Grenade==> Sleep
47) --> LRM Missile==> Dmg Dmg Range Range Range IntRdx
49) --> Auto Turret==> Dmg

Why I've gone with these powers:

MaX knows, better than anyone, how I feel about Defiance. Whilst it DOES have it's uses, it's a crutch, and I don't like the whole sense of needing to be at deaths door before I can make a decent shot. Whilst I'll be handicapping myself by ignoring Defiance, I'd rather stay alive and continuously hurt something, as opposed to being at 1hp and merely hoping I'll stay alive long enough to damage it.

As for all the End Mods I've slotted into my attacks, I consider, personally, the most annoying and evil type of mob (not villain group) to be Malta Sappers. Certainly, other types are as painful (Carnie's with the Psionics, Rikti with their Immobs) but, to me, there's nothing as painful as having your endurance drained, and being unable to regain it for a short time. That said, the build I propose to make isn't so much a Stalker Killer as a Stalker Hunter - someone who actively goes out and finds Stalkers, and cripples them before killing. For that reason, I've only given a cursory enhancement to Web Grenade, and ignored Caltrops.

Heresy? Maybe. But consider this: Web Grenade is only useful if the target doesn't have any Break Frees. In PvP, it's common to take along at least one - even Stalkers, with their assumed Superiority of "if they can't see me, they can't hit me" would have at least one Break Free. By the time I've gotten off a power or two, they'd have hit their BF and be running (I opted for Sleep Grenade as well, so I'm not totally ignoring the possibility of this happening). I, personally, believe it would be better to sidle up near them as they're preparing to hit an AS, cloaked, and then hit Short Circuit, draining their End. If I drained their Endurance once, then hit them with the Web/Sleep Grenade, I could possibly get off another Short Circuit before they recover, messing with them more. Unable to regain their Endurance, they'd be easy targets for other players, or for my Voltaic Sentinel.

Why Fly? Well, certainly it's slower than the other powers, and I've gone for SS too, so I can follow them on the ground, but Flight offers a larger view of the area to search for Stalkers, and better (I feel) control than SJ. If they're moving off, I can park up on a building and still hit them with my three Range Increased LRM, and whilst they're looking for where their attacker is, swoop down and hit them with Short Circuit, etc, etc.

Any thoughts/comments?

[/ QUOTE ]You don't use web grenade for immob, you use it for -jump, -fly, -rech and -spd. Same for 'torps, except that they don't have -rech.

EndMod in the attacks will do very little because their basic drain is so small in the first place. You're better off with EndRed, Recharge and possibly Acc.

The exceptions are Tesla Cage, Zapp, Short Circuit and Thunderous Blast. Those four have decent endurance drain.

Voltaic Sentinel will need at least one Acc if you want to use it effectively against +Def users in PvP (read: Stalkers). The same should go for any attack you wish to use against them.

I take it that you mean EndMod and not EndRed in TB? The base cost is small, it's the drain per target that kills your endurance.

If you're running Tactics for the +Perception then you'll likely want to move an EndRed from Assault to Tactics.

Thanks, Toxic, good advice, and I've made the necessary changes.

It only does -fly -rech -spd. I would also suggest puting a range enhancement into Web Grenade so you can get rid of flying stalkers/brutes from a higher range. Two end redux in TD should do aswell.

As said already, the end mods in your attacks wont make much of a difference, and even with all the tohit/accuracy buffs, you will need accuracies in your attacks, so swap the end mods for accuracy. Three ranges in LMR are too much I think, so swapping one or two of them for a recharge/damage/accuracy enhancements would be advised.

Swapping one of the tohit buffs in Aim for a recharge would help aswell. Maybe slotting Charged Bolts for accuracy and range could help with turning it into a quick recharge hide dropper? Also, the extra slots in Health is too much AFAIK, only the one slot in it should do as the extra two only enhance the healing factor by a small amount.

There's my thoughts on the build you posted, hope it wasn't all jibberish.

I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender

[/ QUOTE ]You'd need animation time reducers to make it quick, the animation is nearly as long as flares.

Oh, but it does -jump too, that's the beauty of it. You can get a brute stuck in a pool or any other area that would require him to jump 2' in the air if he doesn't have a teleport power

Web Grenade for win

No, it doesn't....

Some comments.. Fly is a great choice for zones, but lots of people will try and tell you otherwise. However, you will need sj/acro to compete in arena duels (I guess you just mean zones by stalker killer).

Slotting elec primary for end drain is pretty ineffective in zones, it just doesnt offer enough without /elec or /em for power boost. Especially against stalkers who aren't gonna hang around battling 'til they're out of end.

You'll want swift, hurdle and stamina from fitness, health is rather pointless imo.

You will want end reduc in fly and ball lightning. You're prob going to want 3 dam/recharge in TB and 3 recharge in Aim. I would slot recharge reduc in aim over tohit buffs.

I would personally slot web grenades 2 acc 2 recharge, if not 3 of each if I had the slots.

Hmm.. about all I can think of right now.

Then why on earth people don't jump at me when I'm right above them, firing web grenades at them?

Edit: From City of Data:

-50000% JumpHeight to Target for 15 seconds [Non-resistable]

Lol, yea sorry I dont know why I said that, Im never without the temp version in a duel and they are quite vital to success. Combined with Snow Storm from ice mastery they are devastating... It takes 8 Inertial Reductions to overcome the -jump from it I'm told. Just being a little dense for a minute.

It's the -spd part that is easily overcome (superspeed isn't hurt much by it) and requires another -spd such as snowstorm to be highly effective.
