Pondering an IC little thread...

As I've noticed (and done myself), some of us have been posting up IC posts (Like Nene going clothes shopping, or Shadowe's little jaunt to the sun, et cetra) in the Union Recap or GG thread. Now, I find these little posts quite fun, because one: it gives me a chance to write and two: it lets me develop stuff and plot away from the statue, with possible oppertunities for people to join in.

What'd people say to a thread where they could post these things? Still keeping GG/Union for recaps and the like and IC posts when needed, but a seperate thread for all those little flavour updates.

No argument from me, Z. (*feels all proud that he was used as a reference*)

I'm inclined to agree, though I'm also mildly worried that the 'flavour posts' might get missed/dissociated from the events that spawn them.

I rattled out 980 words this morning that I'm hoping to be able to post, and somewhere specific to put them would be good, because I always feel a little nervous putting them in the main threads.

The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*

IC pieces slotted in at places where they are surrounded by posts that are relevant to them has some sense. Those other posst can give the IC bit some additional context.

Then again a dedicated thread has the advantage of highlighting the practice and perhaps inviting more of it. And that is always good in my book.

If you start such a thread, I have the feeling I'll be using it when I need to write something beyond a regular recap, but not enough juices to do a real A for Android short story.

If you build it they will come.

Well, not to steal Z's thunder (and I have said it's because of this thread in the first post), but I kind of got on and did it.

Welcome to life in the Huntington household.

Well, for me, I'm loving it (as one of the more prolific users of the thread). I'm enjoying reading the prose versions of character actions outside the RP environment, and it has become one of my touchstone threads on the forum.

Again, loving it.

Very good indeed. I still haven't got much done for it though - though that's being corrected as we speak.

Well, we've had 44 story posts so far, how are people finding it? Is it useful/interesting?

I have to confess that when the IC stories were posted on GG thread, I read each and every one of them. From this IC thread, I don't read each, and read them slower than before. I'm not sure why, maybe on a story thread they don't feel so urgent to a plot/character development, even if they are just as much as before. But I hope this is more a problem for me than in general.

There has been lot more IC posts and it's felt like people are excited about it, which is really great. So in general, I'd say the thread is a success .

Hmm, that might be because on the GG thread or Union Recap thread, a new post could either be:
A comment
A recap
An IC story
Waffle

Whereas on the IC Story Thread, you know it's going to be an IC story.

From my own personal opinion, I'm really enjoying it. I can write more little short stories, more fluff, more character development and even branch out into the fields of using images and text, as I have for my latest 2 stories.

It is evident that the IC story thread has its place and demand and thus was needed. It is serving a purpose and a lot of stories that I suspect would otherwise never have surfaced have seen the light of the day.

However I'm a bit stumped with my very occasional contributions. The line between a straightforward recap and a descriptive recap is flimsy, and the other line that is blurring is between descriptive recap and a small short story. This problem I think is specific to me due to my writing style, which is to just write something and see what's cooking.

I think I'll be posting small Coile snippets (titled 'Shards of A') into the Union recap thread because then I don't have to try and define what category some written piece falls in.

I could also argue that posting into a banter thread can generate more feedback and discussion but those illusions were shaken quite well way before CoH time. Anyone saying anything without prodding is a cause of great jubilation.

I find that I'm a discriminate reader...

I do not read about characters I hardly know...

unless the brief scanning of the post makes me think it'll be interesting.

So, for my own IC story, I added in the beginning the characters who it involves.

It does make it easier to do little things, little stories not sparked by a recap or what ever...
It could be used to 'revive' an old character, start a plot, or what ever!

You know, that's an excellent idea.
