Help with my level 30 Illusion/Kinetics

Hello there,

I've been playing my Illusion/Kinetics controller to level 30 last night, but i have a love/hate relationship with it. I feel like im missing some things, took unnessecary powers, im not sure. Any ideas what i could change to make soloing f.e. easier (i know im getting a Phantasm in two levels). Or maybe better slotting? What powers should i drop, and what should i take in return?

Any advice is welcome, thanks!

Where in the name of all that is good is siphon speed?

Well, first of all, this build is after the Terra V. TF respec. Before, i had Siphon Speed. I had trouble finding room for it, picked Hasten instead at level 30. Figured the running speed from Siphon wasnt needed for me, and Hasten gave me the recharge.

And to be honest, im missing it already.. Hence this help request.

Instead of just bumping my postcount with less than helpful remarks i'll actually try to answer some of the OPs questions.

There's a few things about your build.

1: Travelpowers are always a tricky one for kins and ills for that matter. My personal favourite is the sj/ss combo which gives you the added bonus of cj and hasten.
I know you get ir as a kin but personally believe acrobatics is near a necessity for kins. Altertively you could go for hoverfly which works really well with ill and siphon speed.

2: You probably want to slot for more acc in your powers....especially in flash.

*(Flash really needs to be 6 slotted to be really effective. 2 acc, 2 rech, 2 hold is the conventional slotting)

3: Don't take health. Not very good on a squishy especially when you have a selfheal (better than hurdle if you decide to to with fly though.)

4: Spectral terror is perma out of the box so doesnt need the recharge. 1 acc, 1 fear is fine for PvE.

5: Same goes for IR...cept you slot it for jump instead

6: Slotting blind for damage is the way to go at lowerlvls but you should consider going the more conventional way of slotting it since you have spec wounds and PAs. 2 acc, 2 rech, 2 hold is the way to go.

7: Group invis or sup invis. Matter of playstyle...you decide.

If i was to make a ill/kin lvl 30 build it would probably look something like this:

Name:
Level: 32
Archetype: Controller
Primary: Illusion Control
Secondary: Kinetics
---------------------------------------------
01) --> Blind==> Acc(1) Acc(9) Rechg(15) Rechg(15) Hold(17) Hold(17)

Wow, thanks. Those tips are valueable .

You say SJ and Acrob. is very important for a controller, but why didnt you suggest it in the example build?

By the way, offtopic, whats actually the 'best' controller for soloing/damage? I cant think of any other AT to play, after tasting a controller, so im gonna start a new one soon probably.

well....acro or hover/fly is essential for me because I absolutely hate being knocked back.

Knockback resistance isnt needed on any AT/toon but very handy to have. I went with fly in this build because as I said Fly goes really well with ill and you can get a nice speed on hover with siphon speed + the fact you would need to drop some handy powers such as deceive and flash if you wanted to go the ss/sj route.

a ss/sj PvE build would be something like this:

---------------------------------------------
Name:
Level: 50
Archetype: Controller
Primary: Illusion Control
Secondary: Kinetics
---------------------------------------------
01) --> Blind==> Acc(1) Acc(34) Rechg(34) Rechg(37) Hold(40) Hold(40)

24) --> Acrobatics==> EndRdx(24) EndRdx(25)

28) --> Hasten==> Rechg(28) Rechg(29) Rechg(29)
30) --> Super Speed==> Run(30) EndRdx(31)
32) --> Phantasm==> Acc(32) Acc(33) Dmg(33) Dmg(33) Dmg(34)
35) --> Transference==> Acc(35) Acc(36) Rechg(36) EndMod(36) EndMod(37) EndMod(37)
38) --> Fulcrum Shift==> Acc(38) Acc(39) Rechg(39) Rechg(39) Rechg(40) EndRdx(50)
41) --> Fire Ball==> Acc(41) Acc(42) Dmg(42) Dmg(42) Dmg(43) Rechg(43)

---------------------------------------------
01) --> Sprint==> Empty(1)
01) --> Brawl==> Empty(1)
01) --> Containment==> Empty(1)
02) --> Rest==> Empty(2)
---------------------------------------------

No Flash and Deceive in this build as theres simply no room....matter of playstyle.

Note that Blind and Flash are the only wasy to set up containment for an ill troller.

If we're talking damage controllers you would be best off with either ill/rad, fire/rad or fire/kin.
Ill/rad is good from lvl 1 and onwards and quite safe. Fire/rad is the same but a bit slower at first but really takes off at lvl 32 when you get imps.
Fire/kin is quite slow to begin with, takes off at 32 when you got imps, all your end problems are solved at lvl 35 and theres no stopping you from lvl 38.

And thanks again for more great tips

How's Ice/Rad for soloing and damage btw? Have a nice concept in my mind

Ice is frankly quite crappy for damage, even with a helpful secondary like Rad.

Anyways I have an Ill/Kin at level 33, it's a really strong toon even with the distinct lack of synergy between primary and secondary. It helps that Illusion is somewhat passive compared to some other controller sets, so I have more time for Kinetics.

Anyway this is approximately my build at the moment. I really like the travel power combo of Siphon Speed, Inertial Reduction and 3-slotted Hover. Rocks

Hey I have a lvl 31 (nearly 32) Ill/Rad Controller! We should team sometime!

Hey dude.

First of all, from, IIRC the very first ill/kin to hit 50 of Defiant, I say congratulations, ill/kin is a very fast and worthwhile choice. I have made many mistakes myself in the long haul to 50, respecced in many powers in and out for fun, had spectral terror when it was [censored], dropped it when it was good and had a blast the whole way to 50.

I'm going to suggest a build here, but hey, YMMV, I strongly suggest you take the advice everyone's given you and make your own build on test and give it a spin!

I decided to take them up to 38, because, let's face it, your level 35 and level 38 powers are going to be total no-brainers. I feel I might have to justify a couple of things.

I'm assuming you're not going to be exemplaring much. Hence, I didn't give you a travel power. Inertial Reduction for zonal travel, coupled with a hover/siphon speed combination for excellent combat manoeverability is what I use. If you're expecting to go to bloody bay though, you're going to suffer!

Superior vs Group invis - this choice is all yours, I liked group visibility. But really, I'm erring more on the side of using superior invis now, you're not going to run out of sup. invis in the middle of a mob anytime soon, eh?

Phantasm and Deceive slottings: Deceive IMHO, last an absolute AGE. It's awesome for soloing and dealing with sappers. Phantasm, as a pet, gets a 20% boost to it's own accuracy, hence I feel only one acc there is needed. I'll slap anyone who slots it for knockback. (But I'm soooo tempted to slot some of my powers with knockback*)

Anyways, there ya go, I hope it helps!

*That's it, I'm making an en/* blaster just for this. Nova, 3 slotted for knockback? WHEEEE!!!

Awsome, thats a clear build Might get Fly instead of Increase Density, and neglect IR, and take ID instead at that level. I kinda want a solid travel power. And then im still able to hover + siphon in combat.

Thanks again for more tips

Posted

That is a good choice if you want a clear cut travel power, it'll make life much easier for you certainly if you exemplar to a lower level (Eg. Bloody Bay)

ID however, is an awesome power. It's like a very cheap Clear Mind, and it resists enemy teleport powers! So dead handy for PvP.

I am a bit biased, but hopefully what I suggest is decent for PvE as well! hehe, just have fun with it.

A Storm/Energy defender would be good knock back fun too.
