InstaCab from George the Taxi
Hmm, I have a spare slot on Defiant atm....any prerequistes I need to have?
We built this city on Rock and Roll!
Just the ability to not get bored from constantly pressing the SB button In my 8 ish hour stint yesterday, I figure I dished out something close to 1000 speed boosts (although that is probably erring on the side of caution), and teleported 20 or so heroes to safety.
I'd prefer anyone who makes a toon for this to just consider if they actually want to play a kin defender. If so, just fitting recall friend into the build before 12, then SB at 12 and you are ready to go, and the toon will still be playable. Give it a proper name too - no Taxibot or such like, unless you have always dreamed of being a desperado minicab driver, putting the world to rights one fare at a time that is!
Then all you need to do is wander down to the Hollows and watch George in action - see if you fancy it.
A big shout out too to the empaths who were patrolling last night too.
Hey George. Just a quick "thank you, and well done!" for your InstaCab services in The Hollows yesterevening. We met last night near the Gate, I complimented you on your creative and funny broadcast binds. I was on as an alt - Darkcelerate, remember me?
Hm, I didn't actually do much travelling around the entire map myself, but the SB buffs were still much appreciated for recharge and recovery purposes - always handy when you're back down to a lvl 5 grinding on Volts and Bricks! . Very muchly appreciated!
I've seen quite a few taxis in operation there during the past, but particularly enjoyed your whole theme. Very catchy, very good humoured, and I hope more people start to take on your services.
When none of my friends are about, I usually idle in The Hollows myself, with my main - lvl34 Mr TPF (for TeamPlayFirst). I provide a similar service to InstaCab , though it's perhaps more of an ambulance & response thing than a taxi service . An an /empath, I provide heals and buffs for any heroes that want them, and of course rez. I also provide TP evacuation for stranded heroes or just transport to and from mishes.
I've spent quite a bit of time patrolling The Hollows and during that time I tend to reflect on the consequences of my actions. Sure, I'm an empath and I know I'm trying to help, but am I really doing so? In keeping lower lvl heroes alive and TP'ing them all over the map, am I taking away from "The Hollows Experience" for newer players? I remember my early lvls grinding there, and trying to cross the treacherous map for those CoT mishes in Eastgate Heights with nothing but hover. It was hell! It felt like such a struggle and it made The Hollows feel dangerous, risky, the Hazard Zone that it really is. I sometimes worry that I am ruining this experience, or the atmosphere of a Hazard Zone, for newer players.
I try to be there if needed, but more of a passive assistance. One of my fav things is shadowing a lone heroe or a group trying to make it across the map on foot through all the mobs. I SJ from building top to building top, staying hidden to them, but ready to react if they need it.
I always make sure to ask low lvl heroes if they want heals first, there's nothing worse than annoying a blaster working on his defiance, or a char trying to die for a quick trip to Atlas hospital.
And after a patch of active healing and buffing, I always make it clear when I'm leaving them to it. Nothing worse than a low lvl faceplanting because he has gotten comfortable with your heals and buffs and stopped watching his bars.
I guess it always makes it worth it when they thank you with things like "a light in the darkness", I've had similar expressions of gratitude myself.
I apologise for the slightly off topic tangent there, it's just that watching you last night brought out some thoughts I've been having about my own actions. Perhaps being aided and taxi'd around IS part of "The Hollows Experience". Perhaps as heroes, we SHOULD be there to help.
Besides, if teams respond to our broadcasts, then they want the help, right?
Anyway, best of luck with InstaCab - hope it is fulfilling and is always well received. I think Mr TPF will join your global channel if that's ok, so if you ever have a need for a high-speed ambulance unit as part of your InstaCab fleet, just honk your horn
Of course, Darkcelerate (kin/dark) has just gotten Siphon Speed now, so...

Oh dear. I've been useing my Empath Medi-Kate for healing and TP service in the Hollows for months now and as a non-blaster player completely forgot about Defiance
I just hop around healing and Fort'ing right left and centre . Not been shouted at by a Blaster yet and i'll be more careful from now on.
good luck with the Cab service
I'm certainly interested in becoming a part of it, I'll roll a Kin/Nrg and help out .
A big thank you to all the heroes who supported my first shift on taxi and speedboost duty in the hollows this evening.
George the Taxi will be appearing from time to time in the Hollows, providing speedboost to everyone entering the zone via the atlas gate, and tp to the gate. As I outlevel the zone, I'll be offering such yummy treats as Inertial Reduction, TP to mission door, and an awaken delivery service, in addition to slapping transfusion on when I can.
You'll be able to tell if I'm in the zone by my occasional broadcast spam binds - I'll try and keep them interesting! If you want a tp, send a tell to George the Taxi, or join the InstaCab global channel, then invite me to your team.
Anyone who fancies doing the odd shift, there is the InstaCab SG, and I'll be happy to sort something out, as George is an occassional alt, away from my home server, so coverage will be patchy. Send me a message on the InstaCab global channel if you fancy the odd shift of relaxing and chatting at the Atlas Gate.
Many thanks again for the kind words, donations of inf and especially being called "a light in the darkness of the hollows", it really made my attempt to give something back to the community really worthwhile.
