he told you wrong .. its a good set for PVE and PVP
i would like to point out that brutes are NOTHING like tanks in CoH so don't go waiding into mobs and expecting to live.
stick with em/invul you'll enjoy it.

I'd take everything except the 2 element passives and take aidself.

EM is end hungry so slot for end reduxs and for the love of god don't take tough from the fighting pool as it will just end you.

Oooooouuh, yes! I have an EM/Invul brute (now at level 36) and he is quite similar to a sports car: amazingly powerful but with a fuel consumption like a truck.
He drops things really fast, but let´s not talk about the amount of blue inspis I have to swallow during an average mission...

If it has
eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.

Hate to tell you this, but if you wanted to be a tank, the only secondary that will give you the real feel of being a tank IS Stone, and you won't really feel like that till lvl 38.

If your in a team with other brutes you can cycle the apha taking tank mode, sharing the duties, but don't expect to be able to do the same alpha taking as a tank all the time.

On a plus point though you dont need as much health as a tank in a fight because your enemies fall before you that much quicker

personally I have a level 33 energy/dark brute and I love it. dark seems to be a really interesting/varied set thats been working great, so I'd definatly recommend it

The only way to tank in CoV is to kill things....quickly.
Brutes don't play well as a tank, in fact they play more like a scrapper....get out of the mindset that you can sit there and take punishment, Brutes don't work like that

Inv as a secondary will be great until you come across CoT and Carnies etc, at that point you'll use Dull Pain and aid self as mitigation against them and possibly a few green inspirations.

Sorry to say but we do have a brute tank variety, its called Stone Armour, and if they take tough they can tank just as well as there tanker counterparts if not better due to their higher damage output.

Ermmm... except tanking is (mainly) about holding aggro (and surviving), not about damage output
